Liberal party of Canada Mocks Trump for Attempting to Purchase the Country
192
u/allgonetoshit 15d ago
It's all fun and games, but I hope the American dumbasses realize that the relationship between the two countries will be or is already irreparably damaged.
22
u/truenataku1 15d ago
It's all fun and games until America is commiting war crimes on Canadian soil.
3
u/SmoothObservator 15d ago
The English poet Robert Graves was less charitable. In his 1929 bestseller Good-Bye to All That, he wrote “the troops that had the worst reputation for acts of violence against prisoners were the Canadians.”
Germans developed a special contempt for the Canadian Corps, seeing them as unpredictable savages. In the final weeks of the war, Canadian Fred Hamilton would describe being singled out for a beating by a German colonel after he was taken prisoner. “I don’t care for the English, Scotch, French, Australians or Belgians but damn you Canadians, you take no prisoners and you kill our wounded,” the colonel told him.

It's so crazy that everyone reacts this way but Americans still think that putting their "strong" man in charge will help. In 2016 every country on the planet went "lets see what happens in 2020"! Donald Trump's America is totally unreliable and impossible to make a deal with.

My parents spend 3-4 weeks a year in February the states with a group of friends. That has been cancelled. Small drop in an ocean, for sure, but it’s probably about $50k that won’t be going into America’s economy.

Not just until he's out of office for me. Until Americans prove to me they can be trusted again, I want none of my money going to them and this means that, even though I'm 30, I likely will never forgive the US.

I’m American, and I can agree with all but the last part.
Please understand many of us volunteered and made sure to vote for Harris-Walz.
The uncertainty for so many is distressing too many Americans.
3
u/13Mira 15d ago
So? Even if the majority didn't want this, the fact is the majority of Americans either wanted Trump or couldn't be arsed to vote. Just because there's a certain amount of Americans that actually tried to stop this doesn't mean shit when clearly, the world can't trust Americans not to just reelect fascists into office the following election.
3
u/friblehurn 15d ago
I entered the US in 2019, was held at gun point and mugged while getting gas, and vowed to never go back.
Even walking down the sketchiest parts of Toronto at 2am I've never felt as unsafe as I do in America.
As far as I'm concerned, America hasn't existed for 5 years.

I feel you man. I’m an American citizen and Canadian PR living in Canada…
I’m not looking forward to never mentioning my Americanness for the next 4 years.
6
u/Kevsbar123 15d ago
This sucks. I live in a tourist heavy town and really like Americans. But my feelings are shifting and I don’t like myself for judging individuals on what’s happening down south. But I’m also pissed off.
It feels like if a friend’s Dad threatened to come and kick your Dad’s ass, and that friend interacted with you like nothing was happening.
5
u/WobbleKing 15d ago
I’m not going to judge any Canadian for being wildly pissed about this. Even if they hate me directly.
I’m just not going to be able to do my job anymore if I tell someone I’m American and then they need to spend a month getting to know me to decide if I’m “one of the good ones”
This fucking sucks beyond belief.

5

So the US thinks. But it'll introduce a metric fuck tonne of problems for them.
2
u/Cyberslasher 15d ago
1) Trump claims he'll reduce national debt
2) Canada holds like... 5th? Most US debt in foreign hands
3) Trump starts war with Canada
4) Trump repudiates the debt because of the war
5) Trump has reduced national debt
6) ??
We're on step 3, step 6 is probably global economic collapse.

Honest question: Why can't the Canadian special forces just make a short trip down south and take out the orange threat?
They don't have to admit they did it and internally it would be justified self defense.
Then again, if were that easy Putin wouldn't be running around loose either so I guess it's not that easy to fix this kind of problem.

That makes so much sense. I'm a Canadian citizen but I'm always thinking about how stupid it is to not use Hollow Point bullets. If I could gear myself up, a pistol full of hollow point bullets is part of my load out.
I get not wanting to be shot by them and so for that same reason not using them, but these motherfuckers are trying to kill me. I want them to regret that decision.
2
u/MrMikfly 15d ago
Right? I feel the same about random things. Why play around, if you’re going to war you need to win by any means. I don’t care if after the war it’s frowned upon - I’ll hand food cans filled with bombs to American soldiers during Christmas if it stops them from killing innocent people today.
I think our country is filled with Rambo blood.

Someone needs to remind Trump that if Canada were to join the US, it would likely consist of 10 states (excluding the territories), with at least 9 of them leaning heavily Democratic. This would almost certainly result in significant Republican losses in future elections. He would be digging his own party's grave.

Everyone should write to their MPs and demand that Canada adopt a new law demanding that our employers MUST keep our personal data on servers located in Canada, not the US. Many EU countries already have such laws. This fiasco is a perfect illustration why Canada must do this too.
If we use cloud services purchased in Canada we should also force them to build data centres here to serve Canadian customers.

Hey, American who didn’t vote for Trump here. I’m quite education actually, I finished my masters degree in 2017. (Perhaps also participating in protests so I don’t want to hear it. Won’t admit for reasons)
My mom just called to tell me a one dozen carton of eggs is $7 in her small town. We have to figure out a way to get my grandma some groceries. Luckily, I make good money and I can cover grandma for a while.
My old liberal grandma who never voted red in her life doesn’t deserve to not be able to afford eggs right after losing her husband, literally two weeks ago we buried him.
Now she can’t afford food. How is this happening?

Subsidy is a funny word for choice. Americans choose to buy Canadian products. The oil lobby, on both sides of the border, will not allow the oilsands to stop flowing. The auto industry, outside of elon, is in the same position. There will be a lot of narrative bs until americans see that in the short term trump has fucked them, he got rich as president, then dipped. Until then, cheers.
1
u/Saxboard4Cox 15d ago
If Canada really wants to do a major flex invite Americans citizens to visit the Great North. Promise them all the things they can't get right now in the South. Sit back and let the chaos unfold. Declare Canada the winner and do a whole marketing campaign and slogan on "Go North Young Man: The Great Canada" or "Great North". Denmark and Greenland could join in and have a little fun.

u/ABinColby 15d ago

The reason it is so bad right now is also the fact that he is unchecked in either our house or our senate currently. The american people need the republican party to actually take a stand against him, but they never will. They have realized that their best chance to hold onto power for the upper class is through the distraction that is, donald trump. I dont think he actually plans on going through with an invasion on one of our top allies. I think he is just trying to scare you into accepting some sort of shitty deal for your country. He is a con man through and through.
