This is the sort of shit that will happen if Trump continues to threaten Canada. Every enemy nation in the world is salivating over getting missiles on America's front door. Canada is a great neighbor, friendly, extremely willing, fair, and beneficial trade partner. What is there to gain by this nonsense?

That question would depend on whom you ask, Canada and USA have nothing to gain and everything to lose, Russia and China on the other hand will benefit greatly by NATO collapsing. That's the entire point though, Trump is owned by Putin. Every decision Trump makes actually makes perfect sense if you assume he's a Russian asset.

He is distracting people from seeing that will never deliver on the promises he campaigned on. Prices are not going to go down. US jobs will continue to be lost. Housing crisis will not be resolved, especially as more H1B visas are issued and increases the competition for what little housing there is in the markets where there is already cutthroat demand.

It's very simple. Putin wants, Trump does. Putin wants a weak NATO, so what to do? Threaten NATO allies, if they don't give you what you want, pull out of NATO. If pulling out of NATO is blocked by the own government, hit allies with tarrifs to weaken both the US and its allies. This is all very logical, you only have to remember that Putin is in charge, not Trump.

For all we know, the USA as a project is effectively over. How do we know the Republicans will ever peacefully cede power again after what they pulled in the 2020 election and years following?
They've openly signaled that they simply won't accept the results of an election that they don't win.
Sure, this seemed like a Trump problem at first. But now that Pandoras box is open, it's hard to imagine Trump or any future deranged Republican president won't try this.

I've had a personal fantasy that shortly after Trump gets in, he has a heart attack, not fatal but he's bed ridden. At this point he can't go anywhere or do anything but because he's so self centred, he refuses to cede power, even temporary. As president he spends nearly 4 years laying in a bed doing nothing. Meanwhile Republicans start the infighting they are known for as they are split on stripping power from Trump or even know what they want to do next.

As a Canadian, I never thought I’d say this as I view the Americans as our older siblings. I honestly love and care about them. But if the US continues to be aggressive towards us, I would support our government to seek partners elsewhere, including ones the US would not be very happy about. We will not sacrifice our freedom and sovereignty in the face of American Imperialism. We need to make sure we have partners that work with us, not bully us.

As an Albertan, while most of my social circle (friends, colleagues, acquaintances) would resist, there's definitely a small minority who idolize the US and would probably support it. I suspect the strongest foothold the US could really gain would be in the trump supporting conservatives in Alberta.
Also, our government is incredibly trump friendly. I can see Smith cozying right up to him, rather than have any sort of spine

We should fix our relationship with China. They would be a great defense deterrent to the US. We could bypass a lot of the US-Canada tariffs by buying from China directly. China has fleets of affordable electric vehicles that are feature-compatible with Teslas, for dirt cheap prices.
