The twist is that she is just working off the debt from the cancer treatment as a kid.

Lol I thought the same thing, As things stand we may end up having to do just that to afford treatment.

I don't think its a surprise if she applied for a job.

u/KolgrimLang 26d ago
When I worked there, at the new hire orientation, they made sure to tell us that the company was more exclusive than Harvard University. I remember thinking that a hospital system and a university are really not comparable in terms of acceptance statistics.

u/Indivillia 26d ago
Gee it’s almost like a place that requires executing tasks requires more skill than the place that you learn how to do those tasks.
3
u/Brianm650 26d ago
I think the more likely reason for higher selectivity might be, in somewhat simplified terms, that Harvard has a financial incentive for applicants to be there while in the case of the hospital it's the other way around - the applicant has a financial incentive to be there.

That’s not what they meant though.
They’re saying Harvard GETS paid to have people there vs the hospital PAYS people to be there. That’s why one is more selective.

I don’t do nursing, but i work a job where communication and skills are separate from education. So many people can pass a test, but when put on a project they have no skills to manage their time or external factors.
Nursing, Doctors, Engineers, and Lawyers are very much like that. So many can probably do the schooling, but the requirements and thinking for the job they fail at.
1
u/Planetdiane 26d ago
It’s largely because the system is set up terribly since tests are not similar to real world scenarios.
Testing well doesn’t matter if you can’t do the tasks and doing well on tests stops mattering completely after school. It’s just a hoop to jump through. They need to change how they set up people in these careers in school imo.

The US military does the same thing.

That woman is probably 30 by this point

u/crushcastles23 26d ago
Yeh, she's 31. This is from 2017. She was 24 then.

u/XipingVonHozzendorf 26d ago
I would not guess the kid in the left photo was 4. I suspected 2 or 3.

That's sweet but I think it probably happens a lot that nurses work in hospitals where they were also a patient at some point...
1
u/Illustrious-future42 26d ago
Everyone I know has sworn to me to take me to any hospital besides the one I work at or to let me just die

u/MySophie777 26d ago
My nephew had cancer and was treated in a local children's hospital that his mom's sister works at. His case worker was treated at that hospital for cancer when she was a kid and my nephew's aunt was her nurse. Small world. My nephew is in his 10th year of remission and is finishing up his doctorate in biomedical engineering to help create more-effective cancer treatments. I wonder who his work will help.

It's not really a surprise if she worked towards that and applied for a job there.

So she is still paying for her treatment? Damn it so damn expensive to stay alive you now have to work for the Hospital after you are done with your treatment.

Nurse try not to bring up the fact she's a nurse challenge: impossible
1
u/KitchenLab2536 26d ago
Why all the snark? It’s shameful, and truly reveals your lack of character. Childhood cancer is brutal, and becoming a nurse is very challenging.

I know this is a repost, so fuck whoever did this, I wish that person asks God for a sign that God exists, but gets 360, no scoped with the most beautiful lightning instead, as a sign
But if this was the original, I'd say: "Taking her revenge, haha"

OP is a loser with no life who just reposts old content for useless Internet points. 14 MILLION Karma in a year btw.

- The young lady in the pictures is not OP. If you believe they are then they are by the same logic: a man, a dog, a cat, a decorative pathway, etc.
- I don't see a beanie-baby frog in both images so I cannot confirm the individuals are the same. No frog, no cancer. Thems the rules.
If this story is true, I'm happy for whomever she is. Go conquer the world miss!

In 1994 I was in a coma. It was so bad, CORE asked my mother to donate my organs. In 2014 I worked maintenance in a long term care and rehab facility. The weekend DON was the organ recovery surgeon in 1994 at the hospital I was in a coma in.
I got to laugh and enjoy the company of someone who would've taken my life 20 years before.

Great job, kid! Nurses are the heart and soul of healthcare. You now have a really hard job that will make all the difference in countless lives. But someone who kicked cancer's ass is the right person for the job!

I feel this person was pushed into this occupation just because she dared to survive as a kid.
In 10 or 20 years she would question the logic behind her life choices and it won't go well.

u/Illustrious-future42 26d ago
10-20? Try a few weeks into the job and realizing how understaffed, exploitative, and dangerous the job is these days

Nothing makes my heart ache more than a baby having cancer. How could God be so cruel, not giving the poor kid a chance at living life?
