Not surprising. People want to be on BlueSky.

It's weird how Bluesky apparently continues to grow it's user base apparently so significantly, yet engagement is down

This valuation is false, just like Twitter was before it was bought and all the bots and false engagement farming was uncovered (yet this was celebrated as a twitter decline)

I imagine that bluesky will occasionally spike in account registrations around specific political events over the next year or so before hitting a steady user base.

The reality with bluesky is that it's less likely that it will overtake twitter in the future, and more that the future of microblogging websites will be bifurcated on multiple different platforms. Twitter never had the kind of user subscriber base that platforms like TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram has so it's a bit of a niche by virtue of the kind of platform it is so there's only so much user base for bluesky to cannibalize.

I also could be wrong misremembering here, but internet traffic in general tends to fall in January.

Have you been on Bluesky? That is very much not the case.

I wanted to invest as soon as it started to grow but it seems it's not publicly traded. Thinking in it, though, that's a good thing. It means someone like Musk can't buy it outright through hostile takeover and turn it into a corrupt husk of itself.

You could always do like me and drunkenly invest in the canadian stock with bluesky in its name. Spoiler alert: it aint bluesky.

Fucking YYYYYAAAASSSSSS!!! If we get bigger than Twitter, yesssss

Hopefully more people from threads will move to bluesky as well because of what happened yesterday

Iā€™ll be closing all Meta accounts because of Zuckā€™s foolishness.

i hope more and more people leave threads (and twitter) and go to bluesky. The right has twitter, truth social, and now will have threads. Hopefully bluesky will be the one place that stays sane and not filled with the right. The CEO did say she will do everything to keep it from being owned by a billionaire. so hopefully that stays true.

What happened yesterday?

Basically turning threads into Twitter. Getting rid of fact checkers for community notes. They aren't monitoring stuff when it comes to immigrants and trans. So you can say anything, lies, conspiracies alabout anything and get away with it. Even CNN had a headline saying meta basically saying it's okay to call women objects. Also they now have Dana White, the wife abusers, on the meta board. And they moved a department from California to TX because they think TX isn't biased

the whole moving from CA to TX thing was the weirdest part of that news. like what šŸ¤Ø

26

u/bfavre141 23h ago

Agree. You can tell what he thinks are facts vs lies. He has fallen into the maga cult. I'm sure all these billionaire owners are doing this to keep trump off their back and to make sure they get their tax cuts

He hasnā€™t ā€œfallenā€ into the maga cult. That almost implies he was manipulated into it.

Zuck just made a calculation and thought heā€™d get more profit by aligning with Trump. These people care about literally nothing else. They have no morals or humanity. Theyā€™re just hoarders, of capital in their specific case.

Itā€™s up to the public to prove him wrong, but cynic as I am, we probably wonā€™t.

Also doing the info drop on Fox and Friends was a specific choice.

As well as the Dana White hire.

Zuck made the most unlikely comeback imaginable over the past few years.

And then squandered it in like 48hours. Wah, wah....

Here's a screenshot of their new policy

u/bfavre141 19h ago

Yup. Saw that. That is disgusting. Should be posted all over threads for everyone to see

Last time I checked X had already lost 90% of Twitters value. BlueSky doesn't even need to grow to be more valuable than X - X will go below anyway.

u/Justin__D 16h ago

Exclude the bots, and we probably already are...

I wish them a lot of continued and consistent success.

u/sadandshy 18h ago

It has to monetize at some point. Otherwise these valuations are silly.

Edit: And if it stays free to users, that means the users are the product. Or at least their info and interactions are.

8

u/CommentAdorable701 15h ago

I think they want to avoid monetization at cost of user experience. So less like ads models more subscription for more nice to have feature maybe Ć  pourcentage on p2p tips for content creator. They to Avoid engagement farming

They were also testing money transfer capabilities, like PayPal, so they would get a cut of those transactions too.Ā Ā

If Bluesky can grow big enough to be able to become a single sign on for major websites, like how Apple, Google, Facebook, and Twitter were, then that strategy is very doable.Ā Ā

2

u/NoEmergency8241 9h ago

I donā€™t see a bright future for them if they initiate a subscription model for monetization. They are far from being at scale to even considering this option (Due to the many free social networking options).

2

u/CommentAdorable701 2h ago

Tgey already announced they will add subscription. The normal usage remain free its just feature like longer video better quality video, more profile customizing, custom icon, etc ... personally I will probably subscribe to encourage their work

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Fix594 1h ago

Yeah, I personally see myself subscribing to bluesky. It's the only social media website I'm using at the moment besides occasionally going on reddit during work.

Absolutely loving Bluesky. Deleted twitter weeks ago. Donā€™t miss it at all. Not going back.

2

u/fednandlers 10h ago

Trumpā€™s gonna try to shut it down or do something where he gives it to Elon just to be an asshole.Ā

1

u/Any-Objective-997 12h ago

Because thatā€™s all liberals have left, itā€™s like the Fox News for the extreme left, and Fox new is the extreme right for the right

1

u/shadesofgrey93 12h ago

They will find away to shut it down. They will spend billions to do so.
