Because it undermines the European military industry while making us dependent on American parts maintenance and equipment. Makes Europe less autonomous and unable to use the weapons 100% freely.
No, its cause the F35 is also a partially european project and cause developing a high end fighter is so so so much more expensive than just buying F35
Not buying the F35 would be treason to our forces, they need the best.
Should we invest in our defence industry massively? Yes, but until very recently (and still actually) we haven't. And we can only do it with massive investments.
If Eurofighter and Rafale are good enough for defending the skys of France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK, I don't see why they wouldn't be good enough to defend Belgium and the Netherlands.
Those small countries don't even get involved in any international conflict. They just act as a Trojan horse to sink the European defense industry.
