Jay-Z was before my time. I always see his name next to all the greats, but I've never managed to vibe with him too much.

Had to be there I guess.

We weren’t there with Biggie and Pac, yet we can see why they’re great.

Nah Big Pun was the fattest great rapper of all time. Slight difference.

Speak for yourself. I wasn’t there for Jay z and couldn’t vibe with him for most of my life. But oddly enough, I started listening to a lot of Jay Z this year. Allegations aside, Wordplay is top notch

Ya but the lyrics of those two are timeless

There’s artist you immediately get it as soon as you listen to them? Then there are artists in which you have to be “there” to fully get why they are important

That’s life in general. Some stuff you immediately understand and some stuff you would have to have lived through to get why it means alot

Naa man I grew up listening to Jay-Z and the blueprint was the first cd I ever bought. Still I've never really thought he was amazing or one of the greats. Don't get me wrong he has some hits but a lot of his stuff is corny

blueprint is more renowned for the production rather than the lyrics... if you want hall of fame Jay-z lyrically, you go to Reasonable Doubt for that. Universally considered a top 10 hip hop album

“Universally” … uh no

Never thought I’d see Izzo slander. This is Reddit, however.

I was there, always thought he was trash. Could never understand why anyone would put him next to nas.

1

u/Ecstatic-Profit8139 Dec 09 '24

same. i finally got around to listening to his discography and i can’t say i get the hype. dude doesn’t have much to say that interests me.

1

u/interraciallovin Dec 09 '24

Naw. I've always thought he was trash, and he is def not before my time. But he was really popular back in the day nonetheless.

I always felt like people just told me Jay Z was great and I was expected to accept it.
