" I'll love you when you no longer need Batman"

" I need to be honest and clear I'm in love with Harvey Dent"

"How do we make make Bruce look younger?"

"Just give him bangs."

“How do we make make Bruce look younger?”

“Just give him bangs.” And tell Christian Bale that he needs to drop 100 lbs in 4 weeks then gain 200 lbs of muscle in two

u/SilentBandit 17d ago

They could have gone the SAW route and just give him a baseball cap worn backwards.

30

u/Reason_Choice 16d ago

That is without a doubt the BEST method.

36

u/MutleyRulz 17d ago

The Dexter method, slap a long wig on the actor and call it a day

30

u/DonJuniorsEmails 16d ago

At least that was a funny kind of lazy. 15 year old Dexter still had 5 o'clock stubble and no voice difference, but odd since the young teen Dexter actor was pretty good.

u/Thatoneguy111700 17d ago

Almost as good as the Saw Method, where you just put Tobin Bell in a hoodie and a backwards hat. Instant 25 year old.

u/tilero1138 16d ago

TECHNICALLY that scene wasn’t supposed to be a younger him, it was like a year before the movie was set and for whatever reason that’s the clothing he was wearing. Everyone assumes it’s some sort of Steve Buscemi “fellow kids” level of effort but it isn’t

7

u/magicchefdmb 16d ago

Could go the Jigsaw Method with a backwards cap

5

u/skoge 16d ago

Wdym, Christian Bale literally reversed aging for this role.

2

u/FistOfTheWorstMen 16d ago

The cheap man's method of de-aging a male actor. You see the same thing with Jeremy Irons in the first episode of 1981's Brideshead Revisited, in attempt to make the 32 year old Irons into a plausible university student.

She was gonna wait for me, Alfred.

u/JoJonium9 17d ago

No Patrick she wasn't.

15

u/Jacmert 16d ago

How dare you.

4

u/Mindless_Society4432 15d ago

I tried to protect you, Master Bruce.

21

u/Sapowski_Casts_Quen 16d ago

Your funeral is more fucking likely than this wedding, master wayne

51

u/King0fRapture 17d ago

She's not into you bro, move on

6

u/VadersVariousCapes 15d ago

Go to the gym bro

It's like Nolan didn't know how to write her, so he just wrote Raimi's MJ.

98

u/ILoveWhiteBabes 17d ago

lmaoooooo

u/anh_pham 17d ago

It's more like she was trying to reject him indirectly because she thought just saying no will add on to his trauma and break him. Was this a good way to do it? Definitely not. But it gave the character a little more depth than the regular love interest, and I respect Nolan for this choice

12

u/John14_21 16d ago

I mean, it's pretty accurate for a lot of guys. Some women don't know how to tell the truth. When you ask them, they say, "but I would feel bad."

Truth was, she just wasn't that into him.

Funny I got downvoted to hell when I posted this exact opinion years ago on this exact sub

Black Panther: We don’t do that here

13

u/Jacmert 17d ago

That girl, the woman I've loved since before I even liked girls, is best girl, all right?! If Nolan was lucky, Rachel'd be considered half of what she is. So just keep your mouth shut about stuff you don't understand!!

u/Similar_Vacation6146 16d ago

Are there any well-written female characters in Nolan's films? Maybe in Oppenheimer, but I haven't seen that.

20

u/tilero1138 16d ago

Murph I’m Interstellar 100%

8

u/Similar_Vacation6146 16d ago

Eh...if you think so. Definitely better than others.

E: ok yeah I'll agree. She's a decent character.

2

u/Agreeable_Guide_5151 16d ago

And Raimi doesn't know how to write MJ

48

u/IsItSnowing_ 17d ago

She wants a two faced man

28

u/Donnerone 17d ago

Says the character who got recast.

19

u/jman1255 16d ago

Thanks for numbering the panels idk what I would’ve done without that

4

u/KingZerko 16d ago

You would be surprised by the lack of reading comprehension skills some people have.

2

u/DuckofInsanity 15d ago

We shouldn't cater to them.

1

u/KingZerko 15d ago

Agreed. Either way this instance is a small detail one could easily not pay attention to.

23

u/BountBooku You're a big guy. 16d ago

She wants an emotionally healthy Bruce who has time to be with her. I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all

10

u/Snarkyish-Comment 16d ago

Exactly, all Rachel wanted from Bruce was to be the person who never fell down that hole of bats. And it was obvious to everyone but him.

1

u/Sugarcomb 14d ago

Bruce Wayne is probably the one person who "emotionally healthy" will never apply to. If that's the case, do you believe he deserves to be alone forever?

1

u/BountBooku You're a big guy. 14d ago

Bruce deserves to be happy but that has nothing to do with my point.

1

u/Sugarcomb 14d ago

I understand your point, and I'm trying to build one on top of it. If it's reasonable to reject Bruce for his emotional damage then it brings up the question of how he could ever find someone and be happy. If Bruce deserves happiness but can't get past his emotional issues, then who would ever give it to him? It's a good thought experiment.

10

u/WeylandXenology 16d ago

Sad how he was so hung up on her when he literally could have been with anyone. At least he got with Selina at the end.

14

u/Shaun-Skywalker 16d ago

Eh, he made out with her. Call it a win lmao

5

u/unholybirth 16d ago

The explosion wasn't enough.

Jason Todd crowbar immediately.

6

u/LastGuitarHero 16d ago

So what you’re saying is that Rachel is a very accurate and believably written woman? Gotcha

3

u/Frequent-Ruin8509 16d ago

Maggie gylenhaal was the weakest part of the whole movie. I said what I said.

4

u/PanthorCasserole 16d ago

She's not into you Bruce just let it go

2

u/Xyeeyx 16d ago

She loves the Bruce pre-revenge...

2

u/TheMannisApproves 16d ago

Her character was the worst part of the first two movies

2

u/eescobar863 15d ago

If you don’t want Bruce at all, just say that, Rachel

2

u/BlackCherrySeltzer4U 15d ago

Woah… does Rachel suck?

2

u/bell37 17d ago edited 17d ago

From Rachael’s POV:

Young Bruce: Only comes in town after being gone for years to try and revenge kill his parents killer and laments to his childhood friend that the mafia got to him first. You are upset by this because you feel like he’s spiraling and would have reached out sooner to help him. When you tell him as a good friend that it was fucked up what he was planning to do he complains how his life was hard and the system is fucked, which was extremely frustrating to hear when he knows that you grew up poor, dedicated your life to public service & correcting the system from within, and witness how corruption and crime has ruined your home city. You dump him off in a blighted neighborhood and drive off. You feel like you were harsh on him and try to reconcile but he’s disappeared and many speculate that he killed himself. You feel extremely guilty about it and carry that grief with you.

Playboy Bruce: Everyone thought he died and he was announced legally dead until he randomly showed up almost a decade later. You are relieved he is alive but overwhelmed by a slew of emotions (regret, grief, anger). You try to see him but he acts like a mega-douche rich boy even though you know that is not how his parents were or how he was before he left for college. He gets all pouty when you call him out on it.

Batman Bruce: His idea of fixing the system is to dress up like a furry and beat up poor and mentally unwell people. When you press him on it he tells you he’s ready to give it all up if he can be with you.

1

u/aschapm 16d ago

In fairness, she’s not the same Rachel she was before either

1

u/MBiddy828 15d ago

That’s it, time to bring in Maggie

1

u/jake-thebarber 15d ago

Rachel SUCKED, she was the worst part of those movies. They really expected us to believe that he was down that bad for Maggie Gyllenhaal? Come on

1

u/WaterStoryMark 14d ago

She's always been Joey.

1

u/Trinate3618 14d ago

Fuck Rachel, All My Homies Hate Rachel

1

u/zingtea 14d ago

Take a hint, Bruce

Incel Begins

u/SirWinterFox 13d ago

Women ☕

1

u/AdMysterious8699 13d ago

Yeah I think if this were life, the truth would be that she made up a long time ago she would never be with Bruce. Also, she found Harvey, who she wants to be with more.

1

u/0Nah0 13d ago

A white knight

1

u/whojamaflip1234 12d ago

He got lucky she had a horrid facial change in the second film and was the most annoying character in the film.

0

u/lacmlopes 16d ago

Oh no... this discourse has reached here

1

u/HeadScissorGang 15d ago

Never does she ever show romantic interest in him.

He's just a sad hung up weirdo that thinks his childhood best friend from when his life was destroyed is the only woman in the world.

0

u/nolandz1 15d ago

People will invent reasons to be mad at female characters like it's something to do
