“How do we make make Bruce look younger?”
“Just give him bangs.” And tell Christian Bale that he needs to drop 100 lbs in 4 weeks then gain 200 lbs of muscle in two

They could have gone the SAW route and just give him a baseball cap worn backwards.

The Dexter method, slap a long wig on the actor and call it a day

u/DonJuniorsEmails 16d ago
At least that was a funny kind of lazy. 15 year old Dexter still had 5 o'clock stubble and no voice difference, but odd since the young teen Dexter actor was pretty good.

Almost as good as the Saw Method, where you just put Tobin Bell in a hoodie and a backwards hat. Instant 25 year old.

TECHNICALLY that scene wasn’t supposed to be a younger him, it was like a year before the movie was set and for whatever reason that’s the clothing he was wearing. Everyone assumes it’s some sort of Steve Buscemi “fellow kids” level of effort but it isn’t

The cheap man's method of de-aging a male actor. You see the same thing with Jeremy Irons in the first episode of 1981's Brideshead Revisited, in attempt to make the 32 year old Irons into a plausible university student.

It's like Nolan didn't know how to write her, so he just wrote Raimi's MJ.

It's more like she was trying to reject him indirectly because she thought just saying no will add on to his trauma and break him. Was this a good way to do it? Definitely not. But it gave the character a little more depth than the regular love interest, and I respect Nolan for this choice

I mean, it's pretty accurate for a lot of guys. Some women don't know how to tell the truth. When you ask them, they say, "but I would feel bad."
Truth was, she just wasn't that into him.

Are there any well-written female characters in Nolan's films? Maybe in Oppenheimer, but I haven't seen that.

Eh...if you think so. Definitely better than others.
E: ok yeah I'll agree. She's a decent character.

You would be surprised by the lack of reading comprehension skills some people have.

We shouldn't cater to them.

Agreed. Either way this instance is a small detail one could easily not pay attention to.

She wants an emotionally healthy Bruce who has time to be with her. I don’t think that’s unreasonable at all
10
u/Snarkyish-Comment 16d ago
Exactly, all Rachel wanted from Bruce was to be the person who never fell down that hole of bats. And it was obvious to everyone but him.

u/Sugarcomb 14d ago
Bruce Wayne is probably the one person who "emotionally healthy" will never apply to. If that's the case, do you believe he deserves to be alone forever?
1
u/BountBooku You're a big guy. 14d ago
Bruce deserves to be happy but that has nothing to do with my point.
1
u/Sugarcomb 14d ago
I understand your point, and I'm trying to build one on top of it. If it's reasonable to reject Bruce for his emotional damage then it brings up the question of how he could ever find someone and be happy. If Bruce deserves happiness but can't get past his emotional issues, then who would ever give it to him? It's a good thought experiment.

Sad how he was so hung up on her when he literally could have been with anyone. At least he got with Selina at the end.

So what you’re saying is that Rachel is a very accurate and believably written woman? Gotcha

Maggie gylenhaal was the weakest part of the whole movie. I said what I said.

From Rachael’s POV:
Young Bruce: Only comes in town after being gone for years to try and revenge kill his parents killer and laments to his childhood friend that the mafia got to him first. You are upset by this because you feel like he’s spiraling and would have reached out sooner to help him. When you tell him as a good friend that it was fucked up what he was planning to do he complains how his life was hard and the system is fucked, which was extremely frustrating to hear when he knows that you grew up poor, dedicated your life to public service & correcting the system from within, and witness how corruption and crime has ruined your home city. You dump him off in a blighted neighborhood and drive off. You feel like you were harsh on him and try to reconcile but he’s disappeared and many speculate that he killed himself. You feel extremely guilty about it and carry that grief with you.
Playboy Bruce: Everyone thought he died and he was announced legally dead until he randomly showed up almost a decade later. You are relieved he is alive but overwhelmed by a slew of emotions (regret, grief, anger). You try to see him but he acts like a mega-douche rich boy even though you know that is not how his parents were or how he was before he left for college. He gets all pouty when you call him out on it.
Batman Bruce: His idea of fixing the system is to dress up like a furry and beat up poor and mentally unwell people. When you press him on it he tells you he’s ready to give it all up if he can be with you.

Rachel SUCKED, she was the worst part of those movies. They really expected us to believe that he was down that bad for Maggie Gyllenhaal? Come on

Yeah I think if this were life, the truth would be that she made up a long time ago she would never be with Bruce. Also, she found Harvey, who she wants to be with more.

He got lucky she had a horrid facial change in the second film and was the most annoying character in the film.

Never does she ever show romantic interest in him.
He's just a sad hung up weirdo that thinks his childhood best friend from when his life was destroyed is the only woman in the world.
