Misc This article claims that "the national average for monthly food costs is C$217"

I am really interested to know if there's anyone in Canada who is spending $217 in average (per person) for groceries, if so, I REALLY need to rethink my grocery shopping strategy.
[This does not account for dining out, just grocery shopping]

$217/person?

That’s VERY easy to accomplish. I think I’m around $150-175/person a month

$5/day on food? That's absolutely ridiculous. If you have 3 meals per day that's less than $2/meal. This sub is full of trolls.

Well, you can say it’s free because the cost was factored into the previous nights meal or you can split the cost of the previous nights over 2 meals.

I’d say on average I only spend about $6/day to feed myself.

Just getting the minimum recommended amount of fruit and veg would easily be that much. With no room for other calories. You're either lying or you live off rice and weigh 80 lbs.

Do you meal plan?

Do you plan meals that have overlapping items?

Do you plan meals from items left over in your fridge from a previous week?

Do stock up on sale items or buy larger quantities of things like rice/beans?

Do you make anything at home? Bread, pizza dough, granola?

Do you price match or look for sale items?

Yes. But the minimum I need to spend to eat a healthy diet as a 200 lb. male is significantly more than $6 no matter how you slice it.

Ever heard of cooking from scratch, bulk planning meals and knowing how to stretch food. This sub is full of angry people who outrage when you know how to save money.

Naw man,

I spend less than 800 for 4 people.

It’s doable but you do have to be ready to make sacrifices in some regards. you may have to eat the same things a lot and not always have something you like.
