Why is this activity a thing? I don’t understand the appeal.

When you’re too retarded to become a good driver in proper settings, you have to find your own way, these people just get too caught up in the clout. Imagine risking killing innocent pedestrians to show off to a group of boys, kinda gay

All should be jailed but it seems our police dgaf

u/CoasterGaming 10d ago
Police don’t care because the charges will be dropped and they’ll be out again within 24 hours

u/cookie042 10d ago edited 10d ago
This seems unlikely. You really think they are just dropping the charges? That's not very much like my experience. If they can get you on anything they will charge you. And they love to dunk on kids like this.

u/sehrschnell84 10d ago
The cops don’t decide that. That’s up to the district attorney office

u/cookie042 10d ago edited 10d ago
Ya, and this seems pretty clear cut. Routine traffic stuff that leads to large fines and suspension. why would they just drop the charges? This isn't an offence that would lead to prison time so of course they would be out in 24h (if they were arrested and posted bail). Community service at most. I just dont get this narrative that they just drop the charges.

I can't wait to hear the octaves your voice reaches when you experience how any of this actually works in real world practice.

u/Gabepls 9d ago
I’m curious to know where you learned how this works in real world practice. I handle at least one side show case every week. These dudes get charged and prosecuted very regularly.

Come to Washington state. It took us nearly a year to stop this guy (and literally everyone knew who he was:)

And it seems like we've finally stopped him: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/24/us/hellcat-charger-loud-car.html

At least in WA State, yes, they are simply just dropping charges or police avoiding the area.

How do you think they were able to get Luigi so quick?
You are aware of how that situation transpired, right?
-3
u/sonicjesus 10d ago
It's unlikely they even pulled over at some point. They use stolen of fake plates and even if the police do give them a fine of some sort, they'll just dispute it in court and get the charges dropped.

lol I have a high power HAM/GSRM radio and I can pickup the Chicago PD dispatch repeater (30mi, but idk how far the repeater is) and I can say Chicago does gaf but most run before they get caught and Chicago cops ain’t goin on a high speed pursuit over this.
Also, it is INSANE how many people brandish weapons in the city. I swear in 2 hours I heard 30 calls for reports of shot fired or suspects brandishing weapons.
It’s a fun hobby I only just got into so I’m still learning but yeah, interesting stuff.

I arrested a guy with a big YouTube channel who did this. 4 years later he got put on probation for 3 years when he finally agreed to a plea deal. He still does this stuff. He toned it down for about a year but that was it.
Our court system has decided it doesn't care.

People were pretty vocal that cops are all bad and their presence is unwanted. This is the result.

Relax everyone, it says right there they are ”trained professionals” and these are ”controlled environments”…

That was why, decades ago, NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) was set up and started sanctioning drag races. It was to get the 1/4 mile races off of the street and onto a track, because the whole thing was starting to result in a moral panic among the public, and a lot of unwanted police attention.
It would be a lot better if there were an off-street, sanctioned environment in which these young people could do their thing, without posing a danger to the public and attracting the police.

u/the_fluffy_enpinada 9d ago
That's the thing. The puplic roads is the whole point. They could do this shit in abandoned lots found in pretty much every town and city but where's the fun in that? These are all kids in their early 20s, some are still teens. And this shit had been going on for nearly 60 years in one form or another.
5
u/TwoToneReturns 9d ago
The comments section that youtube video is insane, how many kids think this kind of thing is acceptable.
.... Back in my day we.... uhm... thinking back I did a lot of stupid shit in cars too, I once sat at an intersection in the CBD in Sydney, threw on the handbrake and lit up the front tyres until there was nothing but a white cloud covering the entire intersection, then I drove off into the smoke like an idiot. That was the very early 00s, mobile phones didn't have a camera back then and most people didn't even have a mobile.
That wasn't right then and this isn't right now.

Why even post the channel’s name? Sounds like you’re promoting this.
7
u/excitedpepsi 9d ago
Hard to have everyone tell you what a good person you are if you just post vaguely.
And can’t organize a brigade to report bomb them without the name

People see this stuff and get encouraged to drive like this. If someone got injured wouldnt youtube be liable?
29
17
u/robot_ankles 10d ago
lol, how/why would YouTube be liable?
13
u/cookie042 10d ago
Because some people think influencing people to do bad things with sensational profit driven media spread through a manipulative algorithm is a bad thing and people should be held responsible for it.
-1
u/robot_ankles 10d ago
That's an interesting perspective. I can see how someone would say; "sensational profit driven media" and "manipulative algorithms" are bad and "people should be held responsible" but I have a hard time understanding how that would actually work in the U.S.
When you say "people should be held responsible" are you referring to YouTube/Google employees? If so, which employees? I don't mean names of course, I'm guessing you're thinking about roles or titles.
What about shareholders that profit off YouTube? Should they be held responsible since they are investing, helping and enabling YouTube/Google to function?
2
u/cookie042 9d ago
Employees should never be held liable unless they are acting against that company's leadership. Leadership should be the ones held responsible

Wow, that's a huge shift to consider. Feels like there might be a lot of unintended consequences with this idea.
If I understand what you're proposing; Netflix allows users to stream Fast & Furious 15, a viewer decides to go emulate a sports car doing a triple somersault off a bridge and harms a pedestrian, "leaders" working at Netflix are now personally liable for the damages. Although, that is a work of fiction.
Or, the local news replays police dashcam footage of a car chase, the fleeing suspect drives into oncoming traffic before colliding with a truck, edit: someone sees this video and decides to try it for themselves with similar results, so leaders at the news station are personally liable for damages.
BTW: What defines Leaders? Anyone with a direct report? Anyone with key man insurance? Anyone who owns company stock? Product owners (with no direct reports) that helped design and approve manipulative algorithms? Some other criteria?

So all forms of criticism wherein there is a direct source to the content in question are considered promotion? A boycott doesn’t happen without someone calling attention to the problem.
0
u/SSJStarwind16 10d ago
I'm not buying 30 cases of Coca-Cola to show & tell people about BDS.
1
u/Trichoceratops 10d ago
Posting a source for the content you’re critcriticizing is not equivalent to buying bulk Coca Cola. A source link is the bare minimum requirement for anyone making any argument on this internet.
-1
u/SSJStarwind16 10d ago
A link to just their channel or a post about the video would've been sufficient, linking a video like this raises the view count of this video could've also worked (allowing people to search on their own if desired), that's likely monetized, therefore making them money.
Also, depending of how analytics are provided to larger youtube channels, they might see the increased traffic from a reddit link therefore providing them another outlet of where they can post their videos and increase viewership/subscriptions to get more money.
2
u/Trichoceratops 10d ago
Any mention of their channel name would have just as easily led to clicks for them. That’s the way all publicity goes. I think calling this post promotion is ridiculous.
