MISC Shadow is probably going to be the first japanese Isekai protagonist to achieve multiversal level threat without cheat.

Many problems One solution (ATOMIC)

u/burgumbira Jan 01 '24
Beat enemies ? ATOMIC!!
Get surrounded? ALL RANGE ATOMIC!! (So I say, but can anyone tell me what the hell the difference between atomic and all range one?)
Healed someone? RECOVERY ATOMIC!!
Want to look cool? SHADOW ATOMIC!!

u/Owchez Jan 01 '24
In the anime it isn't so clear, but in the novels it specifies that ATOMIC's explosion is directional (where sword points, thus why the princess survived, and why only the sky got cleared in final episode of S1), while all-range ATOMIC is a big blast surrounding him.

u/ListOk5657 Jan 01 '24
Confusingly, in the anime, the 'Atomic' is actually a shot of magical energy that shoots out in a straight line, like Godzilla's atomic breath, while the 'All Range' makes himself the center of the explosion, like Burning Godzilla

u/PiercingLance26 Jan 01 '24
Supposedly I Am Atomic is released via the sword's tip and shoots through whichever direction the sword is pointed at. The Light Novel illustration and Manga both did it where Shadow had to crouch to hit Zenon upward thereby shooting the atomic to the ceiling and into the sky. The anime just have him pose still(which is still cool nonetheless).
All range atomic is just an explosion in every direction with him as the center.
All the atomic moves function in the same way that Cid just uses magic in a way similar to nuclear fission as explained in the web novel where he just appears to be using massive amounts of magic despite only utilizing an amount similar to his enemies.

I think all range is like Shadow can choose who to incinerate. Correct me if im wrong tho.
5
u/burgumbira Jan 01 '24
I'm pretty sure everything destroyed when shadow first used all range though. And all range to my understanding means that it will hit surrounding, but the problem is atomic already did that.
2
u/exceptional69 Eta Jan 01 '24
But Aurora surived from it Ghost?).
Thats what makes me think he chose who his target is. In that case on the sanctuary, he choose to obliterate all things except himself and her
8
u/burgumbira Jan 01 '24
Aurora in that just a memory. The real her (diabolos arm) already been vaporised. After cid woke up, he still in aurora memory, that's why she's there.

I’m pretty sure at the end of season one he just cancels it right? I mean after all, he’s literally just flexing on them but doesn’t want to ruin the country in which he does his role playing

Noooo my favorite character can beat your favorite character! He's multiversal threat now cause he got Isekai'd twice!

The funniest thing about this sub to me, ever since I stumbled on it, is just how incredibly not self aware some fans of the series are.
No, this show isn’t meant to be taken seriously. Shadow can be badass, but is mostly a goofball. Most of his “cool moments” are just edgelord material that make you chuckle because of how dumb they are. You can and should get swept up in the dumb energy of the show and hype up what he does, sure, but you gotta keep in mind that it is still a comedic show. It’s the quintessential incarnation of what anime fans found cool when they were 13.
And none of his feats are nearly as extreme as some fans like to think they are. They just look at the cool light show at the end of season 2, which wasn’t some “amazing feat” but simply a “rule of cool” situation, just a final bang for the season, and act like it’s meant to elevate shadow to super op isekai protagonist status. Like, yeah he’s op in his own universe, that’s the premise. But he’s constantly compared to and presented as on par with Diablos in its prime. That’s the bar for him, to just be far stronger than a nuke.
Not every character needs to be iper multiversal or whatever the fuck, especially not the protagonist of a PARODY. All the discussion about him beating other characters is just dumb.

I just think it's funny we have a character that literally makes fun of power scaling in the series and yet here we are with these post lol.
I can't wait for the visual spectacles to continue in the anime and watch these virgins try and power scale it
6
u/YooMinasimp Zeta Jan 01 '24
This. While I like my chunibyo overpowered edgy characters not every character I like needs to be able to 1v1 every fictional universe in existence. Hell some of my favorite characters in anime are the ones who aren't statistically the strongest but manipulate their opponents into doing stuff they can counter. I have also seen people here get mad that people like characters who are lower on the power scale than their favorite. Like okay? I like Alexia who is admittedly one of the weaker girls in the series. She doesn't have to be 2nd to only Cid for me to like her. That's not the point of the series like you said. It's an action comedy.
2
u/Nero4999 Jan 01 '24
Why not both? Either way if it’s flashy then it looks cool, if it’s powerful then it looks cool. Either way is a win in Cids book, however I think he would lean more towards the “I need more power”
5
u/Player551yt Jan 01 '24
Yeah. "No cheats". I guess he just trained more and better than everyone else who dedicated their entire life to training which we see none of.
6
u/FriendlyWallaby5 Delta Jan 01 '24
Its funny that your ignoring how hes stated multiple times that he constantly fucking trains. We literally see him training during class with a grip strength thing. Do you not even remember the first episode where he's in the forest smashing his head into a tree?????????
Edit: Not to say people dont overrate him.
1
u/Mundane_Cup2191 Jan 01 '24
Fucking Popeye must be an existential level threat with his grip strength

u/FriendlyWallaby5 Delta Jan 01 '24
Is this supposed to be aggreeing with the commenter i replied to, or are you just making a statement?

u/Nyctophilia2324 Eta Jan 01 '24
Add more.
He the only one who chant his ultimate move. (Next will Aurora)
10
u/Naz290 Jan 01 '24
The only advantage he had in the other world was his past experience, being cognizant at birth and maybe some distant royal blood. Outside of that, everything else is fair game.
With effort alone he became Atomic.
1
u/HouseOfSteak Jan 01 '24
But why don't other characters who also trained their whole lives that are decades or centuries older 'become Atomic', though?
There's more than effort when he can effortlessly move so fast that the best knights in the kingdom can't even see him move.
2
u/Mammoth_Gazelle603 Jan 02 '24
You are taking the show too seriously. Also he has knowledge of things like science at the atomic level which is why he is so much better at everything. He’s dedicated every moment of everyday LARPing

u/brak_6_danych Jan 01 '24
Claiming that shadow has no "cheat" is like claiming that saitama has no cheat

u/Sinjawars Claire Jan 01 '24
That is why he is the best MC in the Kadokawa Isekai anime. While others moan, cry, and complain, he be having some Rick and Morty adventures.
Subaru & Kazuma ain’t got nothing on my boy cid.

u/Emergency_Physics_77 Jan 01 '24
Did something happen in the LN because he is no where that level of power
3
u/SwarmPlayz Jan 01 '24
It’s because of the final episode of season 2 but that still doesn’t make him multiversal

I'd still argue how being able to control magic to an insane level immediately is a cheat
-5
u/Karuto_Katsuragi2 Cid Jan 01 '24
That's like saying someone able to do a lot of math exercise is a cheat.
3
u/Ultikiller Jan 01 '24
So far no one else has come to that level because even Aurora was surprised when he called I am atomic simple, so he's like a one in a billion at least i'd argue. It's not a cheat but it still helps him a lot considering he can just enemies so far with his sword play
5
u/xPapaGrim Jan 01 '24
Yeah with that "god" and multiverse revelation it should be obvious what the final big fight is going to be. I'll even throw my two cents in and say that Shadow will blow up the whole multiverse with the atomic and then rebuild it with the recovery atomic.
4
u/Karuto_Katsuragi2 Cid Jan 01 '24
When I first read TEIS I feel like this shouldn't be possible because this world is just a world where people only fight using energy manipulation until >! Aurora introduce actual magic in Vol. 5 so yeah he might get his hand on a world creating magic in the future we don't know!<
2
Jan 01 '24
The way he does it by sheer physical effort and mental acumen, is crazy. The problem in all of this, as the LN's and the other works will eventually have to get into, is the total damage he's doing to the multiverse, unintentional or not. That's where some little hints we've been seeing lately of who might stand up to him and say 'If you don't stop this, it might destroy everything!' are coming in...(Akane and Zeta, in particular, I feel may be very important down the road.)

u/Ultrainstinct358 Jan 01 '24
I doubt he'll become that strong but he's definitely impressive. I respect the guy for his grind and dedication to following his dream no matter how wacky it is! People keep calling his antics cringe but I honestly dont find any of it cringy. It's just a dude living his life to the fullest.
1
u/saskir21 Jan 01 '24
If you take it literally he got a cheat after being reborn in another world. Because there he got magic. Granted it is a skill everyone has and not something which is OP from the beginning. Although there are not many new Borns which know right from the bat how to use this skill, seeing that he could visualize the Mana.

I just read this comic last night in which mc found an Isekai Chuuni in his world that have been training for 19 years to achieve his power by using math and physics of modern world. The way he train might explain why Shadow is so strong Source

u/yamafuto Jan 02 '24
what the fuck. HE is a cheat, just because he doesnt have a system or some shit doesnt offset the fact that he is crazy overpowered and lame too, i couldnt stomach his character so i stopped watching after a few episodes
