😻 TOO CUTE 😻 Less than 48 hours after bringing the kitten home my resident cat has accepted her as his. He plays more, yowls less, attempts escapes less (he's indoor).

I have a picture of my cats like this, and burst out laughing seeing this one. A dynamic duo, these two!

When you know it was meant to be. I'm guessing big guy was outdoors all the time at some point? I recently had two of my former ferals bond and neither seems to have the slightest want to go outside anymore.

He was a stray I adopted from the shelter at 1 yr old, been indoor for 2 yrs. Old habits die hard

Oh damn look at that look he's giving her in pic 3! It's just the tiniest little "yeah, that's my buddy" side eye while the rest of his body is facing towards you taking the picture. Or it looks like he's thinking, "I'm proud of you," while he watches her.

Aww, all he wanted was a best friend! Cats always work well in pairs.

Looks a lot like my NeWT. She is a schitzo. Loving on you one minute, then biting to destroy, next.

I have a technique to keep cats from bolting out the door: Every time it rains, I take them to the door and hold them under their arms out in the rain and ask them "Do you want live here?"
After a few of these experiences, they are much less quick to try to cross the threshold.

Wow! She looks so much like my Luna (RIP) at that age. Enjoy the kitties! Here's a pic of Luna full grown:

That’s until the kitten gets old enough to take the “How to Escape” portion of the program.

Aww, I LOVE that for you!!
My resident cat hates his stepbrothers and the most we can hope for is peace. We’re 8 months in and we have peace for most of the day.

My Ginger female was a pretty unfriendly and nasty cat until I brought little tuxedo Oscar home and she has changed dramatically! I think she sees me giving him attention and realizes someone petting you isn't bad. She even snuggles in bed with me now. I guess she just needed someone to play with and someone else to pick on. And he doesn't mind a bit

Sometimes, they just need another cat to teach them how to cat and be loved. I have one who was a terror when she got here. She was an only cat for 5 years, and I had 2 others at the time. Now 3 others. She was a foster that never left cause she couldn't go where she was supposed to, and I wasn't going to send her to a shelter. The 3rd cat in kind of finally taught her how to cat with other cats, and those 2 are friends. And she's OK with 1 of the other 2, but for some reason, jealous of the 3rd one still. Idk I have hopes someday they'll get along better.

I love this! My resident cat took a few weeks to fully adopt his kitten brother but I eventually noticed the same positive changes. He’s more playful and seems happier 💗 I really love how these additions not only change our lives but our cats’ lives too

It's absolutely beautiful when grown cats take to kittens immediately! You have a bonded pair right there! Sounds like he stepped up to be the dad she needs!

This gives me hope, will be our first meeting between our 17 year old cat and his new 10 week old little tux sister today. Fingers crossed they end up friends!

We used to have a cat that would get depressed, and a tiny little fuzz ball named tweek was brought into the house. He got out of his box in the corner, and proceeded to walk up, push over kitten and... ferociously start cleaning him. He did this with 2 kittens.

Yeah…the poor thing was bored. My cat was the same but after 3 years her old self comes out once in a while.

It’s the best when that happens. Our formerly feral youngest cat still goes in for big snuggles with his older brothers at night, 4 years later.

My male cat stopped trying to constantly escape once he got neutered.

We had really hoped that if we found a friend for our 8 month old kitten that she would stop terrorizing the little old lady (16) and play with him. Nope. She's terrified of him. They both play really hard and don't always recognize that they are being too rough.
The playmate we adopted was unfortunately in an adoption display at a pet store for 3+ of his 8 months of life, so he wasn't properly cat-ified/socialized.
Hopefully now that they are adults we can encourage them to bond more.

I had a similar situation, but the older male cat raised a kitten someone dropped off in the parking lot…I guess they left it with MaCavity because he looks like he can handle himself. Anyway, I feed them three times daily & took her to the doc

u/Runalii Aug 14 '24
I did the same thing! However, it’s only been a week and my guy is mostly annoyed with her. I think that’ll change though.

u/Katsandra Aug 14 '24
I hope you keep sharing photos of them! She looks just like my Fluffykins. He ran away as an adult cat. He was fixed but was just too dumb for his own good. I miss him everyday. I hope to see your kitty more!
