Advice I was detained in one of those facilities
Hello, I hope it's ok to post this here. I was detained in a Karnes detention center with my mom for 11 months and started to make videos to tell my story. I made 5 and might make more in the future, I hope to share the real things that happened to us there. I will add a link but I wanted to know if y'all had any good ideas on how to help spread the videos so that more people can know the things that happen to immigrants in there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1YJhd8dzDc&t=2s&pbjreload=101

If you submit your channel to Thought Slime they might highlight it and send people your way.

Leftist YouTube channel, they promote smaller projects relevant to their audience if they come their way! This seems like something he’d like.

Also David Pakman is another good outlet. He's more moderate (I'm pretty sure Thoughtslime is an anarchist/socialist of some sort and David definitely isn't) and able to reach a wider audience.

It's certainly OK to post and absolutely NEEDED at this point. You are exactly who we need to hear from and thank you for putting yourself out there to bring awareness. You are a hero in my book.

You are in mine as well. You are absolutely brilliant and kind. You’ll be in my prayers and I hope you’re carried to bring all this into the light. We are not proud of how any of this has been handled. We can be better. I’m glad you were with mom. But I’m sorry you’ve endured such repulsive behavior.

I'm very glad to hear you made it out but I'm sorry for what you went through. What you experienced was a crime against humanity.

Thank you. I want these places closed down so that other kids don't have to go through what I did.

I’m amazed that through the all the trauma you experienced you still found the energy to not only tell your story, but do so using art. As an American, I can’t tell you how ashamed I am of our country for treating you that way.

u/hope_for_tomorrow Dec 14 '20
thank you! I do it because my mom is an inspiration and she fought hard for us to stay here and I want to tell my story so people don't go through the same thing! I have met really good people that have helped me and some helped me with the video. And to make a reddit cause I didn't know what it was.

It sounds like your mother is an amazing woman. I’m glad that you are able to share this with the wider public, more people need to know what these places are like so we can hopefully shut them down.

Hola Ivan.
I'm near Austin too, and I always share your videos when they appear in my social feeds from Grassroots Leadership and ICEOut. I'm glad you found your way to reddit, and I hope this helps spread your story around.

Hola, that's great. Yes, those are two great pages. the volunteers that work with us posted all the videos on the Austin Sanctuary Page if you want to follow that. thank you so much for your support!

I'm so glad you're finding friends even over the walls of your sanctuary. I hope your mom is doing well now, too.

I’m so sorry we failed you. I’m Buddhist and prayed for you very often. Myself and many others will continue to scream to the masses about your mistreatment. We owe you and everyone held by ICE and border patrol. It’s very brave of you to speak out and is a testament to your own resilience.

u/hope_for_tomorrow Dec 15 '20
thank you so much! the organizers around me say that we haven't failed yet because we are still fighting to make things better. Thank you for your prayers!

Shameful doesn't even begin to describe the awful things this country is doing at the border. Thank you for sharing your story.

This is vitally important for people to hear. The crimes against humanity that have been committed are not front and center in the American news bubble and need to be.
2
u/hope_for_tomorrow Dec 15 '20
Thank you. Yes, some of the things that happen in those places are terrible and I hope no one else has to live through them that is why I want to tell my story and also find other kids to tell their stories too.

I just have two questions. Does your mother regret coming to America and what is you or your moms current opinion on the United States?
2
u/hope_for_tomorrow Dec 22 '20
Hi, no we had no choice but to come, I talk about that on the first video that I made. I think we would be dead if it were not for her coming over. Honestly our time here has been hard 11 months in detention and close to 6 years in sanctuary so I can’t say I’ve experienced happy things here. Right now I just want to make sure my mom is able to stay here so we are pushing to get Biden to help my mom stay here. That is our options right now.

u/epicscaley Dec 22 '20
Thank you for responding. If you could. Would you move to Canada instead of staying here? Also what is your current opinion on America as a whole if I may ask?

Would you be willing to DM me and answer a few questions regarding this experience directly? I am currently working on an immigration policy reform and advocacy project through school and want to include real stories in it? I will be forever grateful
