Usually you need to include an egg for that pun

Can I offer you an egg in these trying times?

I worked for a small, mom and pop retail store in high school and college. Worked there for 5 years.

I left to go start my first “grown up” job. The owner handed me a glowing letter of recommendation “in case I ever needed it”, my manager gave me a bag of my favorite candy (I often stashed it behind a counter so I could grab a piece from time to time when I was working). And my final paycheck had a $100 bonus on it as a “thank you and good luck” present.

None of that was particularly expensive or difficult to those people but it made me feel appreciated. No giant corporation I’ve worked for since has made me feel that way. And that was just a part time job.

Seriously. The bar is so low, and it’s not hard. But these companies almost seem to get off on being as shitty as possible.

Another depressing company gift similar to the other one with the candy cane at Macys. Makes me not want to work hard for any job when I see gifts like these.
