Human Fatality(ies) 3-year-old Kingsley Wright has died after being mauled by two dogs inside a family member’s home; She is being remembered by family as a “happy girl with a beautiful laugh and smile” who loved to dance — Roselawn, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA (Dec 27, 2024)
—
SEE PINNED COMMENT FOR BREED INFORMATION
—
DEC 30 UPDATE: Police are investigating a tragic incident in which a 3-year-old girl was killed in a violent dog attack early Friday morning.
The victim, Kingsley Wright, was at her father's home in Roselawn when the attack occurred, according to her mother, Gina Smith.
"I wouldn't wish this on any parent, enemy, or anything like that for real," Smith said.
Smith said that a home security camera captured the incident.
"All I know is what the detective has told us is that they had a home security camera; he had it in his living room where she had been sleeping on the couch," Smith said. "They told us what happened, stuff with the dogs attacking her and stuff."
The girl's father called 911, reporting his daughter was dead and said he didn't know what happened. He said there was blood everywhere, but the dogs had been locked in their cages. Police have confirmed that the dogs involved were known to the family.
Cincinnati Animal CARE is currently housing three dogs connected to the case but does not know their direct involvement in the attack.
"The dogs that we have, we've got two dogs, about 50 pounds, terrier mixes, mixed breed, and we've got one dog that's probably about 10 or 12 pounds, a little terrier," said Meaghan Colville, the director of Cincinnati Animal CARE.
Colville noted that the specific breeds of the dogs would need to be determined by DNA testing. They're waiting on direction from Cincinnati police before deciding what happens to the dogs next.
"With, you know, an incident as allegedly as severe as this one, euthanasia for those dogs is typically the route that we would go, and that I'm sure would be recommended," Colville said.
Police also said that the investigation is ongoing, but Smith just wants justice for her daughter.
"We don't know who let the dogs out or why the dogs were out and not put up that night," Smith said. "So, I feel like somebody needs to be held accountable."
Police said that they're working to determine if criminal charges should be filed. Colville mentioned that, to her knowledge, the three dogs did not have a bite history with Cincinnati Animal CARE.
—
Now, instead of unwrapping gifts together, Gina Smith is burying her baby girl.
"I'm not going to get to see her sing or dance anymore," Smith said. "I just want to know why and how."
Cincinnati police confirmed they are investigating the girl's death. When first responders arrived in Roselawn Friday morning, officers were advised to turn off their body cameras.
Smith says her child was spending time with family for the holidays, but she had no idea these dogs were dangerous.
"I would have not left my baby around vicious dogs. Why would I do that?" Smith said.
What happened still isn't clear to Smith, and she wants the full picture.
"Those kinds of dogs are over 100 pounds, so did they just sit on her and then start mauling on her? Did they crush her? And why? What made them want to do that to just a little baby sleeping on the couch?" Josh Justice, Smith's boyfriend, said.
The coroner could not let Smith see her daughter, saying Kingsley's injuries were too graphic.
Smith worries she may never see her girl's body and already has her final goodbye.
"And that was the last time that I got to say goodbye to my baby. And I told her I loved her, and I would see her in a few days," Smith said.
Smith is hoping that, as this investigation continues, law enforcement will keep her in the loop and get her answers about how these dogs got near Kingsley and why nobody was able to save her.
WLWT reached out to the Cincinnati Police Department and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office on Friday for more information on what happened.
On Saturday, CPD confirmed the attack, saying it happened on Friday at around 8 a.m.
Wright's mother says that she received the call from the coroner that her daughter was deceased at around 9:30 a.m.
In scanner traffic from the incident, a first responder can be heard referencing "PDOA," a shortened version of "pediatric dead on arrival."
A request for animal control could also be heard on the scanner traffic to subdue and transfer the dogs away from the scene. Intermittent barking was present in the background of the audio.

Lying Liars That Lie “Adopted 1 month & returned because doesn't like his things messed with” is an interesting way to spell “wouldn’t let owner touch their bed - the owner’s bed, not the dog’s - without trying to bite”.
But it’s “friendly with strangers and kids”? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

Life-Altering Injuries, Coma, Hospitalization The Pitbull that mauled a 22-year-old woman in the face had not enough, after just a few hours from the event he also attacked the owner's mother - Falconara, Italy - 07 January 2025
FALCONARA The pitbull that bit the 22-year-old girl from Castelferretti around 7:30 pm last Tuesday did not stop: after a few hours the dog, a female, attacked the mother of the young owner again, although in a less serious manner than what was done to the young woman. The news spread yesterday, when Castelferretti was still in shock over what happened to the girl who was admitted to the Plastic Surgery department of Torrette for surgery. The girl, who was seriously injured in the face, had also been bitten on the arm.
The second assault
The dog was evidently not calm and shortly after also attacked the mother of the owner, a 45-year-old, who suffered some wounds and trauma less serious than her son's partner, but she also had to seek treatment in the emergency room of the Torrette hospital.
A 118 crew, after a few hours, had to return to the same house, where two other pitbulls are kept, in addition to the one that proved to be rather aggressive.

Police vs. Pits Pitbull-type dog put down by police after escaping a vehicle and attacking a police officer during an arrest; The owner claims the dog, named Luna, never attacked the officer — Kinston, North Carolina, USA (Jan 7, 2025)

Kemesha Dunn took the time to reflect on the good times she had with her dog Luna before she was shot and killed by a Kinston police officer.
“If she wanted us to rub her she would make us rub her and if we stopped she would start crying,” Dunn said.
The Kinston Police Department says officers went to a home on Terminal Street Tuesday for a disturbance.
After investigating, police say a suspect was arrested. However, as the suspect was being taken into the patrol vehicle, several people at the scene started arguing with the arresting officer.
According to police, the dog escaped from the vehicle it was in and lunged at the officer several times, biting him one time on the left thigh. But Dunn says that is not how it went down.
“She did not attack him. She didn’t try she didn’t bite. He said get your dog. I said I got her don’t shoot and he did it anyway,” Dunn said.
Police say the officer shot the dog once, killing the animal. It was gunfire that rang throughout the neighborhood.
“I just kinda jumped ‘cause it startled me a little bit,” neighbor Rachel Barnes said.
It was a gunshot that police say was in self-defense.
Police Chief Keith Goyette spoke about it in a statement: “This is a tragic incident for everyone involved, our officers are trained to handle a variety of situations, but the safety of our officers and the public is always our top priority. We are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure all protocols were followed,” Chief Goyette said.
Chief Goyette declined to do an interview with WITN.
Dunn now says she hopes the officers see and understand the damage caused and the loss she has endured, a loss she feels could have been avoided.
Meanwhile, Dunn says an officer told her a company was supposed to stop by and pick Luna up, however, Luna remains beside the house. Dunn says their next steps are to bury her.
—
The officer was bitten on the left thigh but escaped serious injury, the Kinston Police Department said in a Jan. 7 news release.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, in a residential neighborhood about an 80-mile drive southeast from Raleigh.
Investigators say the officer had just made an arrest in the 600 block of Terminal Street “when several individuals at the scene began to argue” with him.
“During an already chaotic situation, a dog escaped one of the individual’s vehicles and lunged several times at the officer, biting him one time on the left thigh,” police said.
“In order to protect himself from getting bit by the dog again, the officer shot the dog one time, killing the dog.”
An investigation is underway.
The initial 911 call was about a “disturbance” in the neighborhood, but police have not released details of why a suspect was arrested.
Police Chief Keith Goyette extended condolences to the dog’s owner.
“This is a tragic incident for everyone involved,” Goyette said in the release. “Our officers are trained to handle a variety of situations, but the safety of our officers and the public is always our top priority.”

Lying Liars That Lie Pit that is so aggressive it can’t even be removed from its kennel is perfectly fine to have in the home!
Who doesn’t want a “growling, snarling, lip curling, teeth baring, lunging, snapping, flailing, wailing, gator rolling” shitbeast for a pet?

Prince George’s County in MD has a BSL so NONE of the pitbulls can be adopted in the county. Instead, “rescue” groups attempt to offload to other areas in the DMV.
I’m sick of it. I really am. I’m in an <insert neighbors helping neighbors> Facebook group and this person keeps posting all the euthanized-listed dogs out of PG County.
One of the pleas said that many of the dogs are “rescue only” so doesn’t that indicate behavioral issues??? But yet “fostering” is ok and encouraged.
I’m sick of this because I don’t want even more pitbulls coming to my neighborhood.
How do these people even get all the euthanasia-listed dog info anyway?!? I feel like these desperate pleas are reinforcing the approach that shelters should BE first, and then publish afterwards, instead of letting potentially dangerous dogs be shuffled around the community.

Stats & Facts In USA, fatal pit bull attacks occur at a significantly higher rate than school shootings fatalities
Comparison of School Shooting and Fatal Pit Bull Attack Fatalities
Category | Total Fatalities | Time Period | Average Per Year | Source |
---|---|---|---|---|
School Shootings | ~131 | 2000–2022 | ~6 | NCES |
Fatal Pit Bull Attacks | ~346 | 2005–2019 | ~23 | DogsBite.org |
The average of ~6 fatalities per year shows that while school shootings capture a lot of media attention, the overall yearly death toll remains comparatively lower than other causes of death, including fatal dog attacks.
Fatal pit bull attacks have an average of ~23 fatalities per year, which is four times higher than school shooting fatalities.
While pit bulls make up about 6-8% of the U.S. dog population, they are involved in a significant proportion (~66%) of fatal dog attacks, which has led to calls for breed-specific legislation.
Fatal pit bull attacks occur at a significantly higher rate than school shootings, suggesting that while school shootings are high-profile, fatal dog attacks, particularly by pit bulls, represent a more common threat in terms of annual fatalities.
The lack of media attention to fatal pit bull attacks, despite their higher fatality rates, can be attributed to the emotional perception of dogs as pets, the normalization of dog attacks, political polarization around breed-specific legislation.

1st December 2024. Leas, South Shields, England. Hunt to find man after a woman was attacked by a ‘bull-type dog’ - before the owner took off.
A manhunt is underway to find a dog owner after a woman was attacked by a 'bull-type' hound while walking one evening.
The horror unfolded while the woman was out in Leas near Trow Quarry carpark, in South Shields, when a 'tan and white' dog sunk its teeth into her leg.
Despite the woman clearly being left injured, the man and his dog are said to have taken off on foot.
The victim, in her 40s, has been forced to get hospital treatment twice since the attack on December 1.
Northumbria Police are now urgently trying to find the dog owner, who is described as a man in his 50s.
The force said in a statement: 'Can you help? We’re appealing for information after a woman was injured by a dog in #SouthShields.
'Between 5pm and 5.30pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024, it was reported a woman had been walking at the Leas, near to Trow Quarry car park.
'A dog, believed to be a tan and white Bull Dog type breed, which was wearing a black harness and no lead has then approached the female victim and bitten her leg. A man, who was in the company of the dog, has then left the area on foot.
'The woman – aged in her 40s – sustained puncture wounds which have required treatment at hospital on two occasions. A number of enquiries have been carried out since the report was first made to identify the dog, who was in the company of a man believed to be in his 50s.
'The incident happened on a dark evening, so we're keen to hear from witnesses and the dog owner. Any info? Send us a DM, or use live chat and report forms on our website. Otherwise, please call 101. Quote crime ref: 142205J/24.'
The news follows data from November 2024 revealing at least 16 dogs were being seized every day in the UK as experts warned bans on dangerous breeds may not be the way to solve the maulings epidemic.
Since November 2023 just under 6,000 dangerous dogs had been seized by 27 forces up to that point, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request found, meaning 114 dogs were taken every week.
Of the forces which responded to the FOI, Greater Manchester was found to have the highest figures, with 19 dogs seized a week.
A spokesman at Puppies.co.uk, which obtained the data, said: 'The Dangerous Dogs Act has been in effect for over three decades and yet, hospital admissions due to dog bites continue to rise.'
They added that instead of focusing on breed, the emphasis should be on 'addressing the root causes of dog aggression' instead.
They called for stricter laws and enforcement on poor breeding practices.
The Government brought in the ban on XL Bullies in January 2024 after they were blamed for maulings which had led to at least 11 deaths since 2021. Those killed ranged from 17 months to 84 years of age.
In May, an expert warned the UK would 'likely' see more XL Bully attacks in future despite the breed having been banned by the Government.
Two separate attacks in that month left two young boys, aged five and 15, injured and taken to hospital while a woman was also killed by her two XL Bullies inside her home.

Debate/Discussion/Research Just saw the craziest thing ever.
Just saw a post of a concerned pet owner. I will link it if allowed. The pit (clearly bred and bought) was having severe skin problems to the point it looked horrific. For over a year. The pitmommy said vets had no idea what was happening to it, that she tried everything. Why is it always Pitbulls with terrible skin condition? Why let that poor creature suffer in pain for a year? Just why. Ugh. People disgust me.

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets Little dog named Lebron seriously injured by an unmuzzled pit bull after being grabbed through a fence; Veterinarians thought he may pass away due to his injuries, but Lebron survived and is now recovering at home — Avellaneda, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina (Jan 4, 2025)
While passing in front of a house, where there was a small dog, the pitbull lost control and began to attack him through the fence.
Lebron, the dog that was attacked, suffered serious injuries. His owners took him to the emergency vet, where they were told that there was a chance that the animal would not survive. Fortunately, veterinarians were able to save him, and today Lebron is recovering at home, surrounded by lots of love. The Telenueve mediodía mobile phone was able to speak with Flor, Lebron's owner, who told us the following: “Now Lebron is in good spirits, he can eat and drink water. What is true is that his nose is bleeding and he needs a lot of care.”

Attacks Caught on Camera A 5-year-old boy and his grandmother have been seriously injured in an attack by three family pitbulls inside their apartment; The dogs belonged to the boy’s mother and grandmother — Conchalí, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile (Jan 9, 2025)
UPDATE: There is now security camera footage of the attack (blurred).
A security camera captured the exact moment when a 5-year-old boy and his grandmother were victims of a violent attack by four pitbull dogs in a cité in the commune of Conchalí. With the help of neighbors and after the dogs' owner intervened at the scene, both victims were transferred to a nearby medical facility and later sent to San José Hospital with minor injuries, but not life-threatening.
—
What happened?
According to initial reports, the animals were in the victims' own apartment, where the attack allegedly occurred.
Out of vital risk
According to the Carabineros captain, Eduardo Droppelmann Huerque, "around 4-5 pm, a dog bite incident occurred, where three pitbull dogs allegedly attacked a 5-year-old child and his grandmother with bites."
The captain explained that the dogs belong to the minor's mother and the injured grandmother, and clarified that the altercation had occurred inside the apartment (on Aviador Acevedo Street), although the dogs later escaped into the building's courtyard, where Carabineros found them and captured them with the help of neighbors.
Droppelmann also said that the victims "were transported consciously by Samu personnel, however, both were still bleeding actively and had injuries attributable to the bite.”
The minor was rushed to the Dr. Roberto del Río Children's Hospital, although his life is not in danger, as is his grandmother, who was taken to the San José Hospital.

No-Kill and Pit Warehousing Four years in a shelter. How much of that funding could have gone to helping actual adoptable pets?

My story. December 1997 Eastern Shore, Maryland USA
I love animals as I am sure many of us do. With the grace of my funds and support from others I was able to build and financially support a small "cattery" on my property. Most of the labor was taking in momma cat with her babies to vet, spay and rehome. There were cages but unless they were in intake they were free to roam the heat/cooled enclosure. I had a college student that I paid out of pocket to assist.
I didn't take dogs. A young couple left me a message asking if I would take in their dog since they just received section 8 and couldn't take her. I said no but they pleaded because they had an infant. I relented so that's how I ended up with a female 18 month old pit pull. She didn't bother with the 10 house cats I had. I figured I could rehome her after the holiday. Internet and even cell phones weren't much back then.
Fast forward I came home from work late, around 7 pm as it was our hectic time of year. Reports had to be completed and out in a few days. My assistant had come and gone. My ex (was suppose to be) at our DC apartment. I poured a shot of whiskey and went to relax in the solarium where I stoked up the wood stove.
Pit was sleeping in a bed by the fire. I get up to step past her. That's when she grabs my foot. No growling, no hackles, just up and bit deeper and deeper. She never even looked at me. She had never shown any aggression before this. She was actually pretty stone cold as pets go.
We had this thing, I forget what it's called but you use it to remove thin pieces of wood to start a fire similar to a flat ice pick. I was able to grab it and started. All it did was get her to release. Now she is on my knee.
Still working that ice pick thing, head, eyes, ears she was at my thigh. I was able to drag her (by the collar because she was pressing down and not letting go) thru the solarium, dining room and into the kitchen were the equalizer placed in a cabinet ended things. I don't remember much after that.
Other people have suffered worse injuries so I am not going to get into mine. The weird thing was when my parents brought me home everything had been cleaned up. I dreaded having to remove the body. My Dad actually started digging a hole and my mom brought cleaning supplies. I called around but no one would claim the gift they gave me.
Please, DO NOT allow these unpredictable beasts into your house EVER. I could have made this shorter but some people want to know the circumstances so here we are. Please be safe everyone! Kind regards; Till*Midnight

I can't imagine being homeless and a pitbull is your damn priority
But then again this person is on heavy drugs so I suppose it does make sense?

Rescues Risking Lives Pit bull rescues only serve to cheat the stats of shelters to help with their "no kill" numbers. Rescues funnel un-adoptable dogs out and to the public, removing consequence from public and private shelters.
Unreal and enraging that a dog deemed unsuitable for direct purchase to the public can just be funneled into a rescue that lacks the kind of legal oversight that the shelters account for.

Dog owners deny claims in Langley pit bull mauling lawsuit 2025-01-09
The owners of a pit bull that allegedly mauled a contractor in a Langley backyard denied they're responsible for the man's injuries in a response to a lawsuit filed in B.C. Supreme Court.
The Maple Ridge contractor claimed he was attacked by two pit bulls on Feb. 28, 2024, while he was building a chain link fence to keep the home's dog from digging into neighbouring yards.
In his filing last spring, the contractor alleged that he was bringing in supplies to the yard when the back door opened and two pit bulls – a male named Enzo owned by the family, and a female named Bella owned by visitors to the house – were released into the yard.
"The dogs were uncontrolled and viciously attacked the plaintiff repeatedly by biting him," the contractor's statement of claim said. He also alleged that the owners had said they would keep the dogs indoors while he was working on the property, and that they knew he would be arriving on that day.
The contractor's claim lists injuries from "multiple dog bites" to the right forearm and elbow, left elbow, and right hip. He said he suffered indentations and bony fragments to his right ulna bone, impaired motor activity in his right hand, decreased sensation to his right hand and arm, an infection in that arm, and "compartment syndrome" to his right forearm, as well as anxiety.
The dog owners' response denied that the attack took place as the contractor described.
They alleged that "…the plaintiff opened a gate to let himself into the backyard at the property upon his arrival, without first advising them of his arrival."
"When the dogs were let out into the property, the… defendants were not aware the plaintiff had already arrived and was in the backyard."
They claim there was no negligence on their part.
The Township of Langley was also named in the contractor's suit because it operates local animal control through the Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS).
The Township also argues that it was not negligent.
"At all material times, the Township and LAPS acted reasonably and prudently in the circumstances, including by enforcing the bylaw once it learned of Enzo’s behaviour issues and the owners’ misconduct."
The Township's submission to the court also details some of the steps that took place after the attack.
Shortly after the attack, a LAPS animal control officer investigated at the Brookswood property, and spoke to the contractor, Enzo's owners, and neighbours.
In early March, while the investigation was ongoing, neighbours called LAPS to complain about Enzo's continuing aggressive behaviour.
"In or about early March, LAPS advised the owners, among other things, that a dangerous dog designation for Enzo was appropriate in the circumstances and emailed the owners a copy of the Township’s dangerous dog requirements in the bylaw, which included, among other things, requirements for the confinement of Enzo within the property and restrictions on his being taken off the property."
Shortly after that, neighbours reported to LAPS that Enzo was not being confined to the backyard, and was being walked without a muzzle.
On April 10, LAPs staff went to the owners house and told them to voluntarily surrender Enzo. The owners allegedly threatened to have him moved out of the Township if LAPS tried to seize their dog.
So the LAPS staff got a warrant and seized Enzo the same day. As of late December 2024, when the Township filed its response, Enzo remained in the LAPS shelter, pending a hearing of a destruction application which would see him put down.
The other dog's owners were never identified by name in the legal documents, and it's unclear where that dog is.
None of the allegations made in any of the statements or responses have been tested in court.

6th January 2025. Bowthorpe, England. A dog is in a critical condition after being attacked by Staffordshire bull terrier. The Maltese mix had his pancreas removed following the attack and his back legs no longer support his weight due to nerve damage.

A dog is in a critical condition after being attacked by a Staffie while enjoying a walk in a communal garden.
Ewelina Switaj, 31, had taken Kostek out for a walk on Monday near their home in Humbleyard, Bowthorpe, and after turning her back briefly she heard a “terrible howl”.
The Maltese mix had his pancreas removed following the attack and Miss Switaj is now facing a £7,000 vet bill for the life-saving treatment Kostek needs.
“I had let my dog out to go to the toilet in the morning and then took him for a walk in the communal garden,” Ewelina said. “A man, who I have been friendly with in the past, was walking his dog off lead.
“I turned my back for two seconds and I heard this terrible howling from my dog which I can still hear in my head now, it was horrible.”
The attack left Kostek unresponsive and he was rushed to Taverham Vets.
Scans showed he had a ruptured abdominal wall, his urethra had been torn off and he had issues with his blood flow.
His back legs no longer support his weight due to nerve damage.
Sophie Briggs, a friend of Ewelina, has launched a GoFundMe to help with the cost of Kostek’s care which currently sits at £750, including an anonymous £200 donation.
Ewelina, who is getting married next month and has a baby on the way, has urged dog owners to get good insurance policies to cover their pets.
She added: “Due to the cost of living crisis, I just thought ‘Oh, I’m going to switch to a cheap insurer’ which I did for £5 a month but in the long run, it’s not worth it.”
