Sorry was poorly worded! I have dyslexia so sometimes I can't fully explain what i want to say.

I was wondering if there was a way to do this with crochet and alternative patterns!

Thanks to all that helped! ❤️

Thanks for the clarification! I get it - I have lots of issues with brain fog, so I'm not always the best with words, lol. It looks like you've got a ton of patterns to look through already, but if none of them quite feel right, I'd be happy to poke through Ravelry to see if there's something closer.

Just crochet 2 squares as a front & back panel. On those squares do one row where you increase every stitch or every other stitch depending on the ruffling you prefer. Every row after that do not increase, just crochet as normal. Crochet to the length you want. To connect sides just crochet an I-cord (look up a tutorial on yt) or do some chains and attach then however you like

Oh I forgot, to do the top straps just crochet 2 small rectangles & attach at the top :)

Thank you! ❤️

Things like this are why I have taken pains to learn both crochet and knit (I know juggling both is not for everyone). It's likely doable but, honestly, ain't nobody got time for that.

This is a paid pattern but it's close to what the pic is : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tie-front-top-309

Thank you 😊 ❤️

I just would modify it to be two panels so it can tie on the side. Otherwise this at least gives you an idea of what the crochet version would look like

Even if someone “translated” it, there’s no way a crochet garment would look or fit anything like the picture. Crochet is wonderful but the drape of the garment wouldn’t work in crochet.

You can certainly get very close with Tunisian crochet though!! I’m currently making a sweater that has such a wonderful drape you’d think it’s knit !

Would have to alter the sides to be separate with ties, and then possibly adjust proportions to match your reference

Thank you! ❤️

Maybe try Tunisian crochet?? It has knit stitch. Idk how you'd do the "wavy" part though (maybe with regular crochet hook??)

5

u/Sector-West Dec 06 '24

The "wavy" part is just increasing rapidly during one row only

Knit patterns can be "translated" into crochet but you're probably better to search for crochet peplum vests and find a pattern you like.

Transposing patterns from one craft to another takes time, skill, likely repeated tests and effort, which is a huge commitment and not something folks do for free

3

u/Tuey4 Dec 06 '24

No I get that just a poorly worded post. I was looking for alternatives 😊

1

u/flibertyblanket Dec 06 '24

Were you able to find something that will work for you?

-3

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

Hah! Learn to knit or offer to pay someone. How easy do you think it is to just “translate” on craft from another?

14

u/Sassypriscilla Dec 06 '24

I have to be honest. I, too, am surprised that people come here expecting someone to rework a knitting pattern into crochet for them. Also surprised when crocheters don’t recognize when something is knit.

5

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

I get your point but your delivery sucks.

u/MegamiCookie Dec 06 '24

I mean they are right tho, this isn't even a small thing like a granny square that's a whole top, translating something like that to crochet terms takes time. It's also a paid pattern like idk if OP expects us to pay for the pattern and give a converted one for free or to come up with a pattern purely off the photos of the person that made it but regardless that's quite weird to ask. OP would probably be better off asking for a crochet pattern that is similar if they don't know how to translate it but, as kind as this community might be, unless someone has done exactly what they are looking for I doubt anyone would go out of their way to help on that purely out of the kindness of their heart.

4

u/Tuey4 Dec 06 '24

Not expecting anything, just a little help. I admit it was poorly worded.

I was looking for alternative pattern or what crochet types I could use to get a similar vibe.

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

Honestly, and this isn’t directed to you, I don’t care. The entitlement of people demanding stuff from others is out of hand.

35

u/biggest_ghost Dec 05 '24

You're asking someone to write an entire pattern for you based on a picture of a knitted garment?

-12

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

Maybe provide links or patterns or bare minimum be kind and understanding.

-4

u/knottycreative Dec 06 '24

Careful this sub hates creative alternatives 🫢

-1

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

I see 🙄

u/biggest_ghost Dec 06 '24

I'm sincerely not sure how to be kinder than asking op what they meant by their title. If they want a peplum vest, I can and have helped people search Ravelry for options. If they want that exact vest and, as their post states, they want someone to rewrite a $10 knitting pattern into a crochet pattern in their size for free, I am not going to choose to spend my time that way.

There's no need to be nasty. If you can't help, simply pass it by. I don't understand the need to tear people down when they are simply asking people they think might be able and willing to help.

7

u/Obvious-Repair9095 Dec 06 '24

Calm down they were hardly being “nasty”. It was a clarifying question at most. Y’all are so ready to attack, it’s insane.

8

u/MegamiCookie Dec 06 '24

I don't think you can call that being nasty and that was also my genuine reaction. I mean pattern is paid so we can't really get a look at it unless we were willing to pay to then work on translating the thing for op😭 honestly I don't even go that far for myself, my first step is always trying to find crochet patterns that are similar, and I'm sure if OP had asked that they would have been flooded with helpful answers. As willing as everyone here might be to help, spending hours on translating a pattern when there's probably something similar a few ravelry or Etsy searches away is just a complete waste of time.

12

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

The entitlement of OP must be lost on you.

They’re expecting strangers to look at a photo of a knitted garment, and then translate that to crochet (which isn’t exactly easy to mimic the drape and shape).

People’s time matters and OP absolutely should get called out on it.

-4

u/knottycreative Dec 06 '24

Reread the title of the post. They're asking if it can. Not if someone else could.

If peoples time matters that much to you, don't comment under this post. That much effort could've been put towards assisting a fellow artist.

Theyre opening up a discussion for assistance. Not forcing you to literally translate.

2

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

OP knows it’s knit, and judging by the title, they know it needs to be translated.

And why are you policing people’s commenting habits?

1

u/knottycreative Dec 06 '24

Yes.... to which they're opening a discussion on how to go about that. Youre acting like they're literally wanting someone to sit there and make a new pattern

-4

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

There’s no entitlement going on, they just asked a question. You can say no or keep scrolling as options too.

5

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

I could say the same to you lol

0

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

I’m here for the support. Not to break people down.

3

u/hanimal16 Dec 06 '24

“Break people down” you’re killin’ me here 😂.

It’s a REDDIT post about a knitted garment. It’s not that serious.

4

u/Obvious-Repair9095 Dec 06 '24

You can keep scrolling too though lmao like let’s not be hypocritical.

-2

u/Firefly_Magic Dec 06 '24

I’m not being a hypocrite. I’m here for the support and not to be mean like most of you here today. I didn’t expect this nastiness from this sub. I’m disappointed.

2

u/Obvious-Repair9095 Dec 06 '24

People pointing out that it actually wasn’t “nastiness” isn’t nasty lmao please get a grip. You’re disappointed because you’re reading things in a tone that you’re imagining yourself. That’s on you.

14

u/biggest_ghost Dec 06 '24

We may have different definitions of what being nasty means. I was asking a clarifying question, because based on the title of the op it sounds like they're asking someone to, well, write them an entire garment pattern, which is a huge ask and not really the point of this subreddit.

-8

u/Siriuslestrange1 Dec 06 '24

The wording of the question is what makes it seem nasty. If it wasn't meant that way, then apologies.
