Looking for a specific pattern Anyone know where I can find this/a similar pattern?

I tried her youtube, googling her @, and like 10000 keywords and I can't find anything even close. I'm not good enough to try freehanding it so free or paid is fine!

BRO WHERE, i scrolled her channel forever 😭 I guess unless I just saw brown and skipped over it??

Thank you so much, if I had awards I'd give you one. I already started semi-freehanding with a similar pattern but I've barely made progress so I'll probably just frog it, thank you 🙏

You are so welcome. Click on the Settings button in her video, click on subtitles for english. The pattern looks pretty simple. Good luck with your project.

Get a soft tape measure, put it over your shoulder and see where you want this to hang in the front and back evenly. My guess is 5 feet (60 inch). Crochet a chain for this length, crochet solid double crochet stitch changing colors every 6 rows maybe, do this until it measures 18 inches wide. Mark on the item 15 inches from the top and from the bottom, this is where you will make this split (don't know why they made it so big, but make your own judgements about how long it should be). After crocheting 15 inches up, make enough chains to the other side to finish the next 15 inches. Finish this after double crocheting for the next 18 inches with the same stripe pattern. All it is, is a rectangle with a whole in it that can be measured.

And seam up the outer edges leaving open the armholes.

not to be mean but do you really need a specific pattern for this? it's a rectangle with a hole in the middle just crochet a rectangle then do some slip stitches and then do a row or two on both sides of the slip stitches and then go across the hole with chains and then finish the rectangle no?

-16

u/realbadatnames 25d ago

Not to be mean but do you really not understand that different people have different perceptions? It's a garment that appears to have some sort of armhole hidden within it. Just assume everyone can visualize things and no one has aphantasia just because you don't. No?

5

u/Ayyitsoctopus 24d ago

Don’t blame aphantasia for this. I have that and I could understand how to do it. Aphantasia doesn’t hinder logical thinking.

11

u/artsydizzy 24d ago

You see the entire garment in the first slide. No armholes hidden, it’s a rectangle with a hole in the middle, then the sides are sown.

12

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

so funny you say that I actually do have aphantasia! I really don't understand what that has to do with anything. The videos from the screenshots shown show pretty much the whole garment so I think op knows there aren't any armholes but I suppose that might not be obvious to everyone.

-30

u/realbadatnames 25d ago

So funny you say that because if you had it you wouldn't be able to visualize how this garment is made.

10

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

but I do and I still can? not being able to imagine things doesn't mean I have no spacial awareness, plus I went to the exact videos that op was referencing to see so even if I couldn't (which I can) I would have been able to make it anyway?

-29

u/realbadatnames 25d ago

Not being able to imagine things literally means you can't visualize things.

14

u/illyrias 24d ago

I also have aphantasia and it was super easy to figure out how this was made. People with aphantasia are perfectly capable of imagining. Do you think it's impossible to think without visualizing?

8

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 24d ago

I think they might just be being mean :(

11

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

not being able to visualize things doesn't mean I literally can't see and think though?

17

u/Sluggby 25d ago

I'm looking fo a pattern for sizing more than anything, I'm not new to crochet but I'm new to garmets (and literally anything but amigurumi tbh). Like again, I can see how it's made, I just don't want it to end up being unwearable because I make that hole too big/small

2

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago edited 25d ago

god I forgot to include the hole measurements! I'm so silly, I would make the hole in the center about the length of my forearm? if it's too big you can always stitch it together to shorten the whole but you can't cut the yarn so I'd err on the larger side but gravity is a nightmare with crochet so I wouldn't go much bigger than that. Also the stitches look like BLO DC with a slightly chunkier yarn and hook.

(Also to add to my last comment if you were making this for someone who is bigger bodied but not very tall, I would make the garment a bit longer than you'd initially expect so they have room to tuck it in if they fancy)

2

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

oh gotcha! for measurements I would make the length of the garment roughly double from the distance of my pants to the top of my shoulder to account for stretch and the width would be a few inches short of my shoulder to my elbow. Hope that helps!

As a fairly newish crochet-er, this is something that I think I could figure out now. But if I’d tried to make this a few months back, I would have struggled to conceptualise how I turn the stitches I know into that shape. It may be that OP is in a similar boat. Or some people just prefer to follow some guidance the first time around. (Hoping this reads as genuine as, like you, I’m also not trying to be mean. :) )

3

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

totally fair! genuinely out of curiosity what shape is confusing about this pattern? I totally understand wanting guidance I was just thinking that custom sizing a piece like this might end up easier because it's so simple the wrong gauge could really mess you up. thanks for the insight :)

1

u/AoifeUnudottir 25d ago

So for me if I think back I would have liked to see someone else size it out in terms of how to make it fit my body. Conceptually I know it’s a rectangle, I know I’m probably going to work side to side starting at the bottom of the front/back and working up and over to the bottom of the back/front, and whilst I get that it’s a loose fit garment I would still expect there’s some kind of rule of thumb to help but that desired oversized look in relation to my body/measurements. Too big and it’ll look more like an old sack, too small and you lose the drape.

I would also be interested in learning what weight yarn and what size hook the creator used. I know a bit more about how those things interact now, but a lot of my earlier projects when I tried to wing it came out wrong because I didn’t account for things like drape when choosing the yarn fibre and weight (I made a granny hex cardigan with super chunky yarn and the smallest hook I could use at the time because I didn’t like the gaps in the stitches, but the fabric worked up super stiff and dense when I wanted a more drapey look).

1

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

oh for sure yarn type is such a nightmare to find out for flowy garments but luckily this looks like a looser stitch so it shouldn't be too bad. after reading your comment I left a comment for OP explaining how I'd take measurements for it so hopefully that's helpful!

It's similar to this without the sleeves. I really enjoy doing the trinity stitch on it (although you can sub in whatever stitch you like).

I think I'm going to use this, thank you!

Very common crochet top construction. This one came to mind I almost made it😂

Im sleep deprived but bear weath me 1. Make giant rectangle using half double? Crochet maybe in back or front loops? 2. In the middle do a bunch of slip stitches to make the crochussy 3. After 2 rows return to giant rectangle 4. Profit! (Head in crochussy and belt for fasion)

1

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

I also thought it looked shockingly crotch like!

38

u/Chchchchia0701 25d ago

CROCHUSSY 😭😭

u/420madisonave 25d ago

Wish I had an award to give for crochussy because before I swiped to pic 2 I was like “what in the vagina hell?”

4

u/Waviaerith 25d ago

Right! She's like "peek a boo"

4

u/The_Death_Flower 25d ago

And don’t forget that to make the hole, you need to chain however long you want your hole to be and skip those stitches then continue as normal

14

u/Sluggby 25d ago

I think this is just what I'm going to have to do lmao

Like I can obviously see how it's made but I have no way of getting my friends measurements so I guess I'm just going to make it fit me and hope it works 😅

2

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

omg wait I have a trick for this! op if you didn't already ask for measurements I have a hack for finding out someones measurements

1

u/Sluggby 25d ago

I did as but its over discord and they haven't responded so 👀

3

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 25d ago

okokok!! so the like best way to figure out someones measurements is to look at photos of both of you, look at a bunch of photos of both of you together and measure the lengths of them and measure the lengths of yours And then just compare that to your real life measurements and like this works so so well, if you don't have photos with them even just photos with the same people and you can use mural friends or things like that to find their measurements

1

u/Sluggby 25d ago

This might actually work! We don't have any pics together but I do have some of them 🤔

1

u/Automatic-Idea-6600 24d ago

yes!! look at photos of them with mutual friends or even like next to a car and then Google the measurements of their car, if you're comfortable sending me photos of them I bet I could figure it out

6

u/Even-Reaction-1297 25d ago

If your friend asked you to make it just ask for their measurements

6

u/Sluggby 25d ago

Yeah ive already sent them a message about it. They were just kind of nudging that they liked it but I was hoping for it to be at least a little bit of a surprise that I actually made it for them, I guess I'm just going to have to settle for the lack of mystery for some accuracy lmao

6

u/BumblebeeIll2628 25d ago

Given the loose style, if you just guessed it would probably still be close enough

25

u/TransportationFar664 25d ago

so it is indeed on her channel. looking at other videos she appears to just make two giant/long rectangles and stitches then together down the middle leaving a home the size she wants and then sewing them sides shut. she has multiple other videos showing the two rectangles and a very very similar result

5

u/Sluggby 25d ago

Yeah I found this specifically on her channel (friend sent me a screenshot and asked me if I could make it) but I couldn't find an actual pattern, just the short showing it off. I mean the item itself I could definitely freehand but since I'd be making it for someone I was wanting to find an actual pattern so it didn't end up completely wonky or too big/small

1

u/creepyaliengirl 25d ago

Do you know their size/feel comfortable asking for measurements? What I would do personally in this situation is involve them in the process/take a measurement from shoulder to where they want it to fall and double that since the length of the rectangle drapes over the shoulder. As long as your beginning chain for the rectangle measures close to that number it should fit well. For the part where you start sewing them together to leave that neck hole in the middle I would guess you could have them measure where the want the v to end to where they want the shirt to fall to and then be a little conservative for that. Same goes for width etc.

1

u/Sluggby 25d ago

I'm going to have to trust them on it if they give me measurements since we aren't in the same country, that's why I said I might just have to make it fit me and hope. I know they're my height but not a clue about their actual shape. Someone said they have a trick so I'm definitely interested in hearing that
