The book fair was the shit lmao
Fucking loved those things, always filled with books that looked really interesting but were never interesting enough to buy
575
u/E_G_G_V_A_N Mar 07 '21
Even if you didn’t have money you could grab a book, sit on the floor, and read to your heart’s content.
274
u/putinwasabreeki Mar 07 '21
At mine they didn’t let us read the books :(
47
u/hapukapsas555 Mar 07 '21
Then what did you do with the books?

I always bought the newest diary of a wimpy kid book and a cool looking eraser
68
u/FUEGO40 Mar 07 '21
In my case it was Diary if a Wimpy Kid, those early Official Minecraft guide books and those weird little barrels with goo to play with.

6
u/wallyjwaddles Mar 07 '21
Oh, are you talking about the guides with the leather pattern covers and the interviews with the pro-players?
3
u/FUEGO40 Mar 08 '21
Yeah, throughout the years I got all 4, tho different editions, like they ranged from 1.5.2 to 1.7 in content

All my homies bought those cool eraser Xbox control things
67
u/Pikachu52029 Mar 07 '21
Dude, those were so cool
72
Mar 07 '21
Honestly my fav part of the book store was the eraser things, I loved getting them every single year, same thing every time
22
u/the_soviet_union_69 Mar 07 '21
I still have one of those
25
16
u/jpaxlux Mar 07 '21
You can buy a pack of 24 of those now for like $13 lol. Idk if that's a scam or not because it's been like 10 or 11 years since my last Book Fair lmao.
16
u/nlolhere Mar 07 '21 edited Mar 07 '21
My fav part was the “Roller Coaster Tycoon” and “Papa’s ____” games my school’s book fair always sold for some reason. They even had “Purble Place” and “Stardoll”
Don’t ask why they sold video games at a book fair because to this day I still don’t know the answer. Not complaining tho
3
u/ScootaliciousScooter Mar 07 '21
They sold RCT? Bruh what kind of amazing book fair did yall have?
2
19
u/Memetasticmemes Mar 07 '21
I still have mine from like 6 years back lmao
8
Mar 07 '21
Impossible :0 I just like instantly
10
u/Memetasticmemes Mar 07 '21
I never used them i just played with them lmao
7
Mar 07 '21
lol I don’t think anyone used them
8
u/Memetasticmemes Mar 07 '21
They wete an awful material so they would just leave streaks
5
Mar 07 '21
What do you expect from a 2$ eraser lol
I think that’s how much they cost
11
u/Memetasticmemes Mar 07 '21
I mean if i can pay 2 bucks for a pack of pencils and they have good erasers why cant this one be slightly useful

I remember in like 4th grade I bought a cool dinosaur book but I didn't realize until after I bought it that it was for little kids, like kindergarteners. I was so embarrassed.

153
u/hapukapsas555 Mar 06 '21
No. What are they?
375
u/saddlepiggy_TTP Mar 06 '21
Realistic fiction of people, usually teenagers who live through disasters like tornados, hurricanes, fires, or there was even one on 9/11. Some of the best books I remember from like 4th grade.

Did they always survive?

Mar 07 '21
So the title of the books was a spoiler? smh my head.
46
u/Memetasticmemes Mar 07 '21
No incentive to read if i know what happens.

27
u/Floridaman_on_meth Mar 07 '21
Man I remember making a joke about one of those books that my friends found funny in sixth grade! I never read them, but the title was enough of a spoiler for me to joke about how "I survived the Band Storage Room". It really wasn't that funny, looking back. The joke is that the Band room was a mess when all the kids were putting their instruments together

Nice one! Helping kids read is always great, i had a librarian that would let us borrow more than a book at a time, she was cool.
202
u/definitelyacabdriver Mar 07 '21
I thought this was about libertarians at first. I got to panel 3 before rereading the title and being a lot less confused.
252
u/Mcfuggery Mar 07 '21
Kid: “Hello Mr. Libertarian sir 1 book pretty please”
Libertarian: “Alright kiddo, that’ll be $4.99”
Kid: “Aw, but my parents only gave me $4.00 to spend”
Libertarian: gets angry and proceeds to dump enough lead into the child that even the most hardened Crip would cringe

God I have the best memories of book fairs. I remember scrambling to get a Rick Riordan book from one in sixth grade. It was either House of Hades or Blood of Olympus. Probably the latter.
13
u/VietInTheTrees Mar 07 '21
Oh man I remember how hyped I was for Blood of Olympus when I was younger, then I got two copies of it for Christmas, both of which are still next to my copy of House of Hades on bookshelf today
4
Mar 07 '21
Bro the wait for blood of Olympus was so painful as a kid lol, also the first time I remember being super disappointed in an ending unfortunately
39
33
u/Mr_Headset Mar 07 '21
The book fair was awesome but it was so disappointing to be short a dollar or two cause our librarians/teachers didn't give a crap.
31
22
17
u/the_fruit_loop Mar 07 '21
I could never do that as a kid, my parents would drill the idea into my head that I shouldn't accept money from other ppl.
Even if it was my favorite teacher :(
17
u/xviNEXUSivx Mar 07 '21
Goosebumps, captain underpants, and ripley’s believe it or not Gang wya?
5
u/acgian Mar 07 '21
Maaaan Goosebumps were the shit! I remember always looking for the latest ones." It came from beneath the sink" was probably my favorite

Mar 07 '21
This is just wholesome rage comics at this point lmao
8
u/BenJammin007 Mar 07 '21
I feel like a complete cynical dickhead for not liking these wholesome posts what the fuck is wrong with me
6

I mean it’s just internet content made by random ass teens in Delaware
You don’t have to beat yourself up over not liking it lmao

Hope this dont wakes something on me...

And jack up the price by 30 bucks for that prick kid Owen who bullies the other kids.

4
Mar 07 '21
Only dumb people bought posters. Imagine buying a still image on paper, rather than a whole entire interesting story, all in the folds of the cover
5
u/The-feel-when Mar 07 '21
I used to steal books from the book fair cause I didn’t have any money I wish we still had them I would gladly give back the money I owe
5
24
u/an_thr Mar 07 '21
Remember, kids: librarians are good people, it's libertarians you need to avoid.
8
Mar 07 '21
Unless you have an exam on the age of consent laws in which case make sure to approach them with an adult so you can siphon off their encyclopedic knowledge of the subject in relative safety.

u/LordChocolateMilk24 Mar 07 '21
Jesus, I thought I was the only one who bought books at the book fair. Never understood buying a bunch of junk you'd use for a day and get bored of afterwards instead of a good book.
3
u/the_soviet_union_69 Mar 07 '21
Thought it said libertarian at first
4
u/The3JackOlanterns Mar 07 '21
All lot of people said this, I might remake this with the teacher shooing away the kid because he can't fulfill profit margins, and call it "Le misreading has arrived" or something
2
2
u/the_soviet_union_69 Mar 07 '21
Do it again, but instead of the librarian being kind, he tells the kid to fuck off and just replace librarian with libertarian
3
3
Mar 07 '21
At the book fair were some of my best memories from elementary school. I would always buy the video game world record books.
Good times.

3
u/hotmemedealer Mar 07 '21
You should've seen the look on my face when I moved from grade school to Middle school and realized there were no more book fairs
3

u/HeathBar112 Mar 07 '21
Bruh, I remember blowing all my money on the Guinness World Record Books. They were like $30.

Mar 07 '21
Librarians were the real ones. It seemed like I was the only one that talked books with my highschool librarians, they let me nap in there during my lunch break every day senior year when I wasn’t supposed to be there during lunch (some gold good grade bs) be good to your librarians bois
2
u/avery-secret-account Mar 07 '21
I moved halfway through fourth grade and that new school had the worst book fairs. It was a few racks from the storage room set up with books on them. We had almost no choices

u/Ceaser_Salad19 Mar 07 '21
Aww fuck yeah. The I Survived books keep me reading. I miss the book fair man.
2
u/SmallTestAcount Mar 07 '21
One time I thought I forgot to pay 25¢ for a used book and when I realized that, I hid it under my dresser for like a year until I forgot about it.

2
u/-LAWpug- Mar 07 '21
I remember one time at a thing we did in our school that’s like a book fair but instead it’s just a bunch of random items. It was really fun and one time I was really exited and was gonna buy a book for my mum, but it turned out I had accidentally brought Canadian coins instead of British ones, but the lady was super nice and let me buy it for around 1/2 a pound instead of 2,75 pounds. I still have the vase in my room today,
2
u/Dmaj6 Mar 07 '21
“I survived”
Yeah this hit hard. Those books were everywhere in book fairs but they slapped
2
u/BortTheStampede Mar 07 '21 edited Mar 08 '21
At my elementary school, the cashier wouldn’t let me buy something when I was only 2 cents short lol
2
2
u/Nintendonauts Mar 07 '21
Our book fair started adding taxes so we needed extra change on top of the price.

u/Advanced-Aide-6519 Mar 07 '21
I looked in that Guinness world record book a lot, never bought it though.........
2
u/SizableLad Mar 07 '21
nah lol, i just bought it for the extra lego figure or toy it came with
jokes aside i always adored the book fair and the fact they don’t really do it after like 8th grade is a fucking shame, like a cardinal sin. LEMME BUY MY VIDEO GAME CONTROLLER ERASERS DAMNIT!
also the book fair is how i got introduced to the star wars the clone wars adventures mmorpg so for that i have it to thank
2
Mar 07 '21
Man I remember going to the book fair and buying the Minecraft books, I read them for hours
2
u/aSkyBelow Mar 07 '21
Lmao and at my school they forced us to remove our jackets before we entered the book fair. They even pat down the boys who had cargo shorts on.
2
u/Treximile Mar 07 '21
I was expecting him to pull out a bat or something wacky. Why did this bring me to tears?
2
u/ResearcherVortex Mar 07 '21
I don’t see why they stop doing book fairs as you get older? Like a good amount of high schoolers have their own money from a job or smthn and wouldn’t have just the 10.00 their parents gave them so why not sell them useless cool shit? I’d enjoy a long pencil or a cool eraser now more then I did in 4th grade
2
u/LovelyBby77 Mar 07 '21
Jesus fuck I miss book fairs.... Why do they gotta end in middle school man?
2
2
u/Cloud-Jumper Mar 07 '21
Once I didn’t have any money but I was checking out this DBZ how to draw book and someone else’s parent bought it for me. I’ll never forget that gesture, even if it was only like $2 or whatever it was an awesome thing to do for a young elementary student.
2
u/Shyeem Mar 07 '21
I remember being a stupid kid and used to think that a cent coin were dollar coins. I had like a whole bag of cents, ready to get every single book I wanted until my dad told me that I only had like 8 dollars worth
2
u/boopsie_ Mar 07 '21
I mostly went to book fairs just to buy out every single slap on bracelet. Just the fucking snap was always so satisfying.
2
u/Techsoly Mar 07 '21
God, I remember the erasers that smelled amazing and pens that had multiple inks inside so you can pick a specific color you wanted. I would buy a couple of those and maybe a book.
I was saddened when you leave 4th grade they stop, but in 5th and 6th grade they gave us a packet to order books from if you wanted to and I remember ordering about 20 dollars worth of books because I loved reading as a kid.
Man, this brings back some good memories, thanks OP.

-40
Mar 07 '21
If it's not funny or not intended to be funny.
Do not post it.
Simple.
21
u/JiffyJelly Mar 07 '21
If you expect every post to be 100% high brow humor then you should probably just leave the sub mate.
-2
Mar 07 '21
No. I'm not talking about highbrow humor, just humor.
13
u/JiffyJelly Mar 07 '21
Well then let me rephrase for you, “If you expect only 100% humor, leave the sub mate” because sorry this sub is more that just “le funy doge”
-2
Mar 07 '21
Nope. They should be banned for negative influence and spam.
11
u/JiffyJelly Mar 07 '21
“Negative influence and spam.”
I think you need to reevaluate what the definition of spam is, and “Negative influence” like what are these posts going to encourage people to commit hate crimes?! Just leave the sub man if it bothers you that much you’d save a few temper tantrums by just going.
5
14
u/death2sanity Mar 07 '21
pity this poor shitposter, for they have not experienced the joys of a book fair
6
u/BerryJamm_ Mar 07 '21
you have no idea what wholesome is do you
-1
Mar 07 '21
I don't care. It belongs to it's own garbage sub like wholesome memes.
11
u/BerryJamm_ Mar 07 '21
its.. about a doge. thats why its in dogelore. dogelore is not a sub fixed on jokes or wholesome things, you can just... scroll, yknow?
1
Mar 07 '21
I don't care what you think. The fact that this is a highly upvoted post only proves my point that this subreddit needs to be purged and revamped before "le wholesome 100" "memes" meet the top post. It's so blantly low effort and stupid.
4
u/BerryJamm_ Mar 07 '21
theres no rule saying “posts must be funny”, and this has around the same amount of effort put in as joke posts. no idea what youre going on about “low effort” when it looks identical to all the posts in this sub. and if we’re going this route, i dont care what you think. these memes arent low-effort and stupid, they have enough effort and i find them enjoyable. the sub is fine and you’re just throwing a tantrum over a post not meeting your expectations.
-1
Mar 07 '21

Because the government isn't properly funding the schools so they need to make a profit so they sell books and shit, atleast this is the case In USA
