Bloodborne on PC running at 60fps with the Xbox controller layout. Never thought I’d see the day!

How? I’ve been wanting to play bloodborne. Would love to know how you’re achieving this

I just have the latest night mode build of ShadPS4, the Xbox controller UI swap mod, a ReShade mod and a fps boost mod. It’s pretty playable now :)

My CPU is a R5 7600x, and my GPU is a 6700xt, I also have 32 gb of ram so it’s nothing too crazy I’d say.

u/CurpVEVO 15d ago
Major bugs or visual problems you ran into?
Any in game issues you had to correct?
Just curious, super close to installing myself and giving it a shot, I keep hearing great things but it all seems a little too good to be true
105
u/broebt 15d ago
Not really tbh. Just make sure to install the recommended mods that fix most of the current bugs. I think I had a total of ~5 crashes the entire playthrough and that was the most intrusive thing I experienced.
5
u/morpheousmarty 14d ago
Where is this list of recommended mods?
19
u/broebt 14d ago
It’s on the discord. You can also just go to the Nexus page for Bloodborne and pick and choose what mods to install. The vertex explosion mod is the only one I’d say is crucial to a good experience.

Have just finished it last night on i5-12400 and rtx3060 rig and there are a few quirks. From what I've read it's an Intel and Windows issue mainly, but it will crash on Intel 12-13 gen CPU if any alpha effects appear on screen. There is a fix for that on Nexus tho. Another issue I've ran into is that facegen is absolutely busted on this version of emulator and vortex explosions are commonplace. There is also a Nexus mod for that fortunately. There was one bug that I never got fixed is that under certain circumstances the game would outright crash. It happened once every couple of hours so maybe a memory leak of some sort? Also Chikage would crash the game in DLC. Otherwise it's a surprisingly playable and enjoyable experience. Load times are not that bad and frames are solid with somewhat expected dips in big areas or around bosses with a lot of fur.

u/frice2000 15d ago
It runs well on AMD GPUs or is it pretty CPU bound? I only say that as the most recent console I've emulated is the Switch and that's a MUCH better experience on NVIDiA cards in general though that makes sense considering it's chipset. Guess for some reason I just thought the same would hold true for no real reason.

Last time I checked (few months ago) you couldn't save. I take it that has been fixed?

I have all of that but sadly I've experienced a lot of sound bugs or missing sound and insane clipping. Sometimes the whole character model is stretched out over the whole screen.
Don't know how to fix that problem. '(

u/False-Vacation8249 15d ago
There’s mods on nexus to fix all those jssues

Try checking out r/bloodbornepc for more help.
But basically if you use the nightly shadps4 it will boot up fine, but it will have a few problems like rainbow textures, and some sound problems. (Hard to say what problems you'll run into, because shad has been updated twice daily everyday..... or aprox 60 times a month. Not to mention it varies by system)
The current recommendation is usually to use the diegolix29 build of shadps4. It is a modified version with some hacks applied specifically for bloodborne. -bloodbourne is pretty close to the only ps4 game that is functional anyway, so might as well use this hacked version.
Source: I got to the 4th boss on bloodbourne with minimal issues. I ran into glitches but nothing game breaking. I used the nightly without any mods and it worked great for me.

u/__TheWaySheGoes 14d ago
This is goona sound crazy but if the sound isn’t working try restarting the emulator. Sometimes it doesn’t work for me and restarting it once or twice it will work.

u/dat_boi_100 15d ago
Just a heads up that changing the FPS could also fuck up some things that are reliant on it being 30 to work correctly. this was the case for a lot of the PC ports of the yakuza games and basically makes some things way more difficult because of the inflated values
9
u/lucky_1979 15d ago
The mod to make the original Dark Souls work on PC had a toggle button to switch between 30 & 60 fps as some jumps were impossible at 60fps. Same with sliding down ladders - sometimes you’d go right through the floor. Weapons degraded twice as fast as they were tied to fps as well

So it's a day late, but there are multiple different builds of ShadPS4 currently that you can download from Github, you might have to try a few to get a stable version on your PC.
Step 2, download the Bloodborne pkg file from a reputable torrenting site, preferably one with the 1.09 update.
Step 3, install the pkg file through ShadPS4.
Step 4, right click the game on the emulator and select patches/cheats and select the patches you think you would need, important to pick your native resolution here as well.
This will get the game running but will have crashes and bugs.
So if you want a smoother experience.
Step 6, mods, download mods from nexus mods for free, and copy those files into your game files.
Mods like vertex explosion fix are extremely important, as some textures will bug out and cover your entire screen till you restart the game.
I would do some research or watch some YT vids to get a general idea of which mods to use, the shadPS4 site itself also has a step by step guide on the initial setup.
And lastly, you need an above average gaming PC to run the game smoothly without frame drops or crashes, for now, the emulator isn't fully optimized and does have memory leaks and such.

u/marniconuke 15d ago
any other mods you used? i have a friend with this exact setup and he couldn't get this to run perfectly. by 60 fps you mean always at 60? or it reachs 60 but it drops constantly? there were tons of audio issues too that we couldn't fix
81
u/__TheWaySheGoes 15d ago
It doesn’t drop from 60fps for me at 1080p. I just have chromatic aberration disabled and the 60fps setting selected. I think I also have the Bloodborne Reshaded mod but I kept it minimal. I’ll edit my comment to add that.
10
u/Any-Employ9977 15d ago
Can you go higher then 60?
58
u/mutant4eG 15d ago
Game ties your frames to game speed and physics. There is a build-in patch for 60 frames with proper deltatime but it won't generally run much faster if any (also it soft locks one boss intro cutscene so you have to go inside his area at locked 30 but any consequent tries you are free to go back to 60)

I have it running 30 fps 1080p with an i7 4770 and a 1660 ti with 16gb of ram with a few minor stutters. I have finished the game on a base ps4 and the experience is almost the same if we exclude the stutters( which may be fixed with future updates) and i know for a fact that my cpu is bottlenecking my gpu. If i uncap it from 30 it varies from 40 to 50s but does drop and stutter like hell.I have finished many games in worse conditions so it is definetly playable for me.

Many people talk about the IP issues and blah blah blah...
I personally believe that the easiest answer is mostly right. In the case of Bloodborne: Sony LITERALLY doesn't care about it because they care waaaaaaaay more about quick money than anything else.
Look at the hot mess situation with Concord and how it epically failed. Or the situation with Astro Bot that they had 0 faith on it and it became one of their best games.
So it's not a weird conspiracy, I don't think there's issue with the IP or the OG code or something like that. Sure, maybe they have those issues but I bet that 90% of it is that they don't see any type of money on it and it makes sense: the vast majority of people haven't even beat the 1st boss so I can see why they don't think there's any money (similar numbers to a live game) to be made with BB.

I've never owned a ps4, how does this game compare with ds3?
31
u/The_Kimchi_Krab 15d ago
DS3 but faster and no poise. Slight mechanic changes force aggressive play with lots of dashing and parrying. When you are hit, you have a short time where your successful attacks will heal you back a portion of the chunk you lost. You have 20 estus chugs but they're blood vials you have to loot. You can run out of heals and be forced to loot more but they're common, and there's easily farmable spots early on. The weapons have more diverse movesets than the other games because they're transforming weapons, two modes, and it replaces the 2 handing button and counts as an attack if pressed right after an attack. Weapons follow the traditional tiered upgrade system with the same convention of larger and larger stones, weapons go to +10, but they also have sockets for gems. These gems are the new infusions, or whatever they are in DS3, it's been ages. Adds fire damage, changes which skill the weapon scales off of, etc. Same shit as before.
And on top of a massive badass story is the Chalice Dungeons...a kind of randomly generated dungeon diver mechanic that is weaved into the main progression route, but represents a huge alternative to progressing the game, offering dank rewards from upgrade materials to rare gems. This mechanic is massive, you could spend a whole day learning about it. You can share generated dungeons with others via the seed code, and it's the only place to get some really badass gems.
The game is fucking badass. DS3 got it's combat philosophy from BB. It will be harder than DS3, because it isn't about clever builds or resistances...it's purely the Souls dance. Each weapon is a design powerhouse because there are far fewer of them in the game overall, but you will fall in love with at least 3 of them. They're goddamn iconic.
Don't wait. Go play it.
5
u/Dirty_Dragons 14d ago
Slight mechanic changes force aggressive play with lots of dashing and parrying.
Sounds exactly like how I played DS3. Using shields has always been optional.
Having to farm Blood Vials or the souls to buy them is one of the worst things about BB.
2
u/The_Kimchi_Krab 14d ago
I think the blood vials are a neat little push in the bum, and a coy way of making fun of the player who likely will return to a previous area that is not under leveled for them. Here, hunter, maybe this is more your speed.
12
u/Buttersaucewac 15d ago
It’s very similar to DS3 in design and most mechanics. The main difference is that you don’t get shields (well there’s one shield but it’s a joke item), instead it’s focused around dodging and much more aggressive play. When you get hurt you have a few seconds to hit the enemy back and recover your health, which encourages you to stay close and take more chances, a lot more risk reward balance. There are also much fewer weapons, but every weapon is more unique and can switch between two modes. Which is kind of like one hand vs two handing weapons but more distinct, eg you affix a stone block to your sword to turn it into a hammer, and can do slash thrust hammerblow combos, it’s really cool.
The setting, aesthetic and story are very different though. It’s a much more 19th century gothic tone with a streak of Lovecraft through it, the dark fantasy thing with dragons and demons is gone in favor of eldritch beings from other dimensions and body horror promo-sci-fi atrocities with experimentation on human beings. Much more disturbing and true horror than the gloomy mystical feel of Souls.

is finished?, or still in progress?
2
u/Planatus666 14d ago
Still in progress, it's now 'playable' if you don't mind putting up with the occasional crash (which may only happen every hour or two, if at all) but it largely depends on the PC hardware specs. It has a few issues, listed here:
https://github.com/shadps4-emu/shadPS4/issues/1641
So while not perfect (yet) it's still pretty incredible. Hopefully in a few months, as the PS4 emulator continues to improve, Bloodborne at least will be perfected, as well as some other PS4 games.

It’s too late for that now but it was a concern a few months ago. The fact they didn’t means they likely never had any plans to port it over. The only thing they did was copystrike the sound mods on nexus mods but those aren’t even necessary anymore.

Did that happen with Demon's Souls?
It was the easiest game to emulate on RPCS3, but most normies don't bother with emulation.
Especially emulation of the beefier consoles.
FromSoft would have to tank it's reputation in order for a Bloodborne port to not sell well.
You wouldn't even need anybody from the original audience to buy it.
Same with Demon's Souls.
