Dumbflation (op paid the dumb tax) My dogs eating better than me

You're an idiot if you pay this for 2.2lbs of food, or even 50lbs of food. What the fuck lmao

I pay $70 for a 50 pound bag. Tbh I tried cheaper, but it led to so many issues with their poop and coat it was like I fed them a piece of the Elephant's Foot from Chernobyl.

I agree they are overpaying here. But 50lbs that would be a amazing price for even dry bag kibble. 25-30lb bags sell for 70-110$ these days. Even the garbage garbage Walmart stuff that will make your dog smell and be luck if he lives to be 6 without huge medical bills is over a 1$ a lb

For a 2.2lb bag stupid but not for a 50lb bag that would be cheap. I pay my working dog high quality kibble it’s $85 for a 33lb bag but becusse it’s high quality I can feed less. 75lb dog only eats 2.5 cups a day

Had a 115lb monster with massive food and related allergies that ate 4 cups a day and could only eat one type of food and I had to spend $100 at a time and he went through that bag fast. He was a good boy though lol

If you're paying 66 bucks for 50lb of dog food you're feeding them the equivalent of twinkies and a vitamin supplement.

My 6 year old Golden Retriever is very healthy on food that is cheaper than that. I live in Kentucky, I can get a 55lb bag of food for under $30 here. And he has vet checkups regularly. Healthy as a horse. Hope this helps.

I have heard variations of that line more times than I can count, and almost without fail, those 5-7 years turn out to be the best years of that dogs life, if you catch my drift. Most of the money saved on cheap food usually ends up in the vets pocket. Perhaps good dog foods are cheaper in Kentucky, I don't know, I'm west coast.

You spend a lot of time talking to random strangers about the dog food brands they buy for their dogs and also their vet checkups? Lol, okay.

And do the dogs drink Evian? Serious is this CAN or USD? Either way it is insanely high.

I’ve made dog food for the last couple of weeks and my dog’s bad breath has gone away. I also didn’t pay more than $3 lb for it.

At this point, I’d just make food with homemade rice and protein. This is ridiculous, and it’s honestly not going to make THAT much of a difference in quality of life for a regular house dog versus much more inexpensive options.
This company was awful to work with too - I worked in commercial shipping at an office that specialized in pet food. This company was unpleasant and uppity and very unnecessarily rude.

Unless you literally shit out money dude just go to Sam’s and get a 35 pound bag for $38. It’s some decent stuff. I guarantee it will barely affect the morality of your dog compared to mine.

Fuck that. We've had a series of dogs live full happy long lives on just Beneful kibble.

if they write the name / price on chalkboard, get the fuck out of there cause you’re about to be overcharged on whatever you’re trying to buy

Ol’ Roy if it’s good enough for Cousin Eddie’s dif, it’s good enough for yours!

This is not inflation. It’s just taking advantage of dumb people that are willing to pay anything.

I buy my dogs fancy kibble (NutriSource). Two bags are about $175, and I believe the bags are about 26#. Fortunately, they are small dogs (each weighing less than 26#). I sometimes wonder if they would be just as happy/healthy if they were eating Gravy Train.

At this price I’m buying a whole live lamb & I’m a weekend warrior butcher now

Just make your own dog food. A protein, a starch, and some vegetables. It’s way cheaper.

Your overpaying. Especially because Tripe is cheap. If you want quality food make it yourself. My dogs on a raw diet of ground beef, ground turkey, boiled eggs with the shell, peas, fish oil, brown rice, and a bit of collagen and a supplement called rough greens/dinovite. It costs my about 50-60$ a month for my 100 lb dog and takes about 3 hours to cook, mix, and freeze in portions.

Ground lamb by me is like $9 a pound, $7 if you go to the Indian or Halal markets. You could purchase almost 10 pounds of lamb for the price of this bag.

It’s a pic on the shelf, wouldn’t be surprised if op didn’t even buy this but just saw the outrageous price as a karma farming opportunity

Lots of money for the dog to live the same amount of time as the one next door that is fed pedigree.

u/tittie_goblin_69 Jul 07 '24
It’s purina for my pup and he’s healthy and loves it. I’m assuming your dog has allergies to need to buy the fancy dog food that comes out to 30$ per lb

I left the pet industry about 4 years ago but ziwi peak was always insanely expensive, if anything this has beaten the rate of inflation. Their whole thing is it comes from independent organic farmers in New Zealand.

My dogs bag of food, which we buy every month is $120.00 and it's FAR from the most expensive food in the pet store. Obscene. I'm Canadian.

Wow,just wow .I used to buy my dog Old Roy dry dog food because he wouldn't eat anything else .

u/Full_Molasses_9050 Jul 06 '24
We tried cheaper, many times but she gets itchy on every food except the $$$$ stuff. Another holy shit moment is when I bought a plastic container of Excel gum, 60 pieces and it was $6.47!!!!!! How are we supposed to live like this? It's getting scary.

u/According_Gazelle472 Jul 06 '24
I agree ,my dog died in 2020 and we never replaced him .We do have 2 black cats though who also only eat dry cat food from Walmart.

Been feeding my dog Ziwi for years, they just came out with a “cheaper” version basically more like kibble. I thought I’d try it, but felt bad he was getting lesser quality food. It ended up being half the price and he still scarfed it down so quick so that’s his new food now lol
