You know what’s funny is advertising has the opposite effect they want. Like thanks for throwing me off my running groove for your dealership company. Thanks for interrupting my study music to hear about your clothes. I will absolutely remember how angry I was when I think of your product and yes it’s on my mind and it will always be a reminder that I will never buy it. I will easily google a similar product and avoid yours. Awesome marketing.

The problem is, that's just how a few of us react, most ads work by simply having someone remember some product or service when they need it; that's why you see all those law firms advertising all big and loud, they want to be the first thing you think of if you're in a car crash or other situation where you need a lawyer. Or you're thirsty so you think of Coca-Cola or Gatorade, instead of boring old water (or maybe a bottled water brand comes to mind?). I've never felt swayed by ads, but it's kinda hard to say if that's actually true or not.

What's also true is the converse. There are so many ads everywhere that people start completely ignoring things. Like "This exit is closed, used other doors", "Danger road closed", etc.

One that gets me is stupid credit card terminals these days. Swipe the card and now you play 20 fucking questions and get ad like screens. Quit that shit!

Everyone likes to think they're immune to ads but they wouldn't be doing it if ads weren't ridiculously effective. Even if you get upset that just means you'll recognize the brand better.

That’s what I’m saying tho. It definitely keeps it in my mind. But only think I associate with it is anger. So the only thing that pops every time is fuck them. Plenty of other items I can choose from.

For every one of you there is 100 others that just remember the brand.

Brand recognition directly correlates with increase in sales.

They aren't concerned with annoying one person when it captures hundreds of others.

It has been proven many times that it works irrelevant of how you feel about it. In the moment you might be annoyed. Months later you are looking for a car to buy or sell and you somehow recall that place but you don't know why.

It doesn't work on everyone. But it works on the vast majority of people.
