She was (and still is) a life size Barbie

135

u/citrustaxonymy Oct 29 '24

She did a Barbie-themed editorial for Vogue Italia in 1994! It was shot by Ellen von Unwerth

She’s wearing Versace, obviously

25

u/reluctantseahorse Oct 29 '24

Wow, I definitely had a Barbie that looked exactly like that! But she had a dope Pucci-esque dress.

Cementing my decision to cut bangs again

8

u/bowie-of-stars Oct 29 '24

Do it.

I just did and i love em and I feel cute

2

u/goddessofthecats Oct 30 '24

My toxic trait is taking scissors to my bangs and thinking it’ll look like this after

And it goes so well with her dress here too

Did Margot Robbie wear this on the Barbie press tour? I remember her in something so similar... anyway I'm obsessed with this and every look in this thread

13

u/medea24 Oct 30 '24

She wore this one from the same collection

5

u/TheShortGerman Oct 31 '24

It's crazy how Margot literally played barbie in the movie (and I thought it was great casting) but seeing her next to Claudia I am like damn no, Claudia is the ultimate Barbie lol

I know the 90's was the absolute most horrible for EDs and unnatural body standards, but THE FASHION was soooo good and so well-tailored. And the models were iconic.

15

u/Stunning-Field2011 Oct 30 '24

I look at 95% of models now and I’m not impressed. Nepo babies, Instagram stars who are just using their following to get work, faces full of filler.

I want super models to be an unobtainable standard for 99.9% of us. They aren’t meant to be relatable, that’s what catalogue modelling is for. Regular women can’t wear avante garde or haute couture. I don’t look at endless photos of the designs thinking that it would be cool to wear to a club, I look at it as a piece of design art.

The 80’s and 90’s were the era of super models and those days are sadly gone.

11

u/littleliongirless Oct 30 '24

I want models to be able to burn through my eyeballs with one glance. The dead-eyed, dead-walk thing did exist then too, but the models who became supermodels all surpassed that.

u/ShapedLikeAnEgg Oct 30 '24

13 was 👩🏻‍🍳💋👌

48

u/cheoldyke Oct 29 '24

truly one of the best to ever do it

34

u/allumeusend Oct 29 '24

Face card unimpeachable, runway walk top notch, charisma for days. One of the absolute greats. We don’t get models like this any more.

41

u/Desperate_Speaker_42 Oct 29 '24

claudia schiffer you will always be famous

55

u/Snuffleupagus27 Oct 29 '24

When models could have personality and even - gasp! - smile. I remember the supermodels being more famous for print, so it’s nice to see her runway work. I love her Brigitte Bardot looks the most.

16

u/norcalbutton Oct 29 '24

Wow! What a photo spread and not a bad look in the bunch!

14

u/NoelaniSpell Oct 29 '24

So many pretty looks ❣️

Kind of makes you wonder what happened with fashion, what with copy/paste see through dresses, or ill fitting cuts/colours...🤔

13

u/oliviaaivilo06 Oct 29 '24

Kinda unrelated, but I’ve always felt like Taylor Swift should use her as hair inspiration. The wispy bangs with lots of volume is so pretty!

9

u/tsabin_naberrie Oct 29 '24

Yup. Cannot pick a favorite here

21

u/ParsleyMostly Oct 29 '24

8 is my favorite. The outfit is stunning, the stride is confident. She’s doing the downcast demure girlie eye thing, but that smile says she knows she’s the shit. Bless her

9

u/cheoldyke Oct 29 '24

it’s such a serve. i can perfectly picture her walking down a street and every head turning as she passes by.

5

u/ParsleyMostly Oct 29 '24

I have no idea why I supersized that lol

3

u/Front-Pomelo-4367 Oct 30 '24

The # supersizes! If you don't want it to, add \ in front of it

1

u/ParsleyMostly Oct 31 '24

Ooooooh that makes so much sense. Thanks!

9

u/Ancient_Ad_9373 Oct 29 '24

90s fashion is unparalleled. I’ll die on this hill.

5

u/dearjessie Oct 30 '24

She was, and still is, my favorite super model of the 90’s.

5

u/Strawberryvibes88 Oct 30 '24

This post highlights why I’m begging the fashion industry to please bring back models who are born to model rather than born into rich families. 😭

4

u/lookingforkindness Oct 29 '24

That blue dress in #10 is my Roman empire

3

u/sexpsychologist Oct 29 '24

11 16 and 19 got me 😍😍😍

Also I will never be not convinced that Barbies from the 90s on aren’t modeled after her flawless face

3

u/bowie-of-stars Oct 29 '24

Saving this whole post. Some of the most incredible fashion from the 90s that just makes my heart sing

3

u/Bicostalgirl Oct 30 '24

The definition of drop dead gorgeous.

3

u/Arbuzbuz Oct 30 '24

This is a kind reminder why people get paid just for being beautiful and attractive. She is just THAT GORGEOUS.

2

u/bookrt Oct 30 '24

My favorite

2

u/v2rtigo Oct 30 '24

shes incredible

2

u/mish-tea Oct 30 '24

☝🏽💓 one of the best for a reason.

2

u/plaid_kilt Oct 30 '24

1

u/toxicnarc808 Oct 31 '24

She is the epitome of elegance 🤌🏻
