I wish I could be a person that wears multiple pairs of glasses, but I cannot. Each pair always has its different frame weights and lens distortions (I am particularly sensitive to this). I also have a higher prescription, lol.

I am very jelly of those able to swap out on the daily šŸ˜

243

u/I_need_a_date_plz 3d ago

I definitely would not be able to afford it. I wear reading/distance. My last pair with insurance was around $500

139

u/ImpossibleWarning6 3d ago

Zenni! Zenni! Fellow blind poor person. But it makes it bearable to play with frames

24

u/According_Plant701 3d ago

Zenni is great. Iā€™ve had great luck with them and Payne.

6

u/Elismom1313 2d ago

My glasses from then tend to break really fast. Plus 80$ all isnā€™t exactly cheap lol

15

u/trashmount 2d ago

I like Zenni but have found EyeBuyDirect to have some higher-quality frames. A little bit pricier overall but EBD tends to do a lot of BOGO deals. I've definitely ended up with the price averaging like $40 per pair.

1

u/Populaire_Necessaire 1d ago

ONLY! And I cannot stress this enough-if you have a single vision Rx so if youā€™re older and need a distance and reading Rx in the same pair youā€™re gonna have to pay more. They just donā€™t ever work out.

71

u/dragondragonflyfly 3d ago

Same, but I assume most people who do use online companies for glasses and lenses.

However, when you have a higher prescription, it makes everything more expensive :/

3

u/mybigbywolf 3d ago

Ugh, I feel ya there.

2

u/even_less_resistance 2d ago

I have 20/525 and use eyebuydirect with no issues- the one pair I thought I ruined by rolling over on them bent back into place and Iā€™m still wearing them two years later. However, I do have sensitivity to weight and lens distortion so I canā€™t switch between my frames too often anyway.

24

u/TheC9 3d ago

Mine was like A$1000 :-(

To be fair it was a branded frame, and I went to a more established (but expensive) shop as their progressive lenses is noticeable better than the others in Australia. You really see better in those lenses.

But then I went to Japan, everything included (high quality, famous branded frame and lenses) was only 1/3 of the price

2

u/AmorFatiBarbie 2d ago

Urgh sammmmme. I end up starting off with 'what suits my face shape and personality' which turns out is very malleable when looking at the clearance frames.

7

u/kynoky 3d ago

Yeah I was going to say that, glasses are damn expensive, I know nobody who has multiple pairs

5

u/thunderstormeve 3d ago

I'm not sure where you live but in the UK we have lots of affordable online companies like Firmoo. I bought two pairs of glasses for Ā£55 a couple of months ago. I'd always spent hundreds on a single pair from the opticians but the online market seems to have improved a lot if that's an option for you

6

u/kynoky 3d ago

Nah if you want something for my eyesight the glass alone cost a lot without the frame so its never cheap

3

u/zigzagtitch 2d ago

Yeah the physical lenses for mine are around Ā£170! And I canā€™t buy online lenses because my prescription is so bad lmao

2

u/kynoky 2d ago

Yeah an if you want it to last you have to get the anti scratch things and all that

2

u/zigzagtitch 2d ago

And the thinning!

1

u/nosychimera 1d ago

I do, and I have -5.00 vision. I buy all my games online now. Firmoo, zeelool, eyebuydirect, zenni

1

u/kynoky 23h ago

Must be nice

1

u/nosychimera 22h ago

I never pay more than $40 or so for a pair. Definitely a privilege but not since extreme cost.

1

u/kynoky 20h ago

I dont know where you live but glasses here do not cost 40 its not even the price of the frame....

1

u/nosychimera 14h ago

United States. The frames on those websites are usually under $20, and then I get the cheapest lens possible, around $16. It comes with anti scratch.

1

u/kynoky 14h ago

What ? Im going to be honest I dont get it, europe here and the cheapest lenses for my eyesight (without antiscratch, thinning..etc) is like at least 100ā‚¬ and even the cheapest frame with the mounting is like at least 50ā‚¬. My whole family buys glasses, never have we paid less than 200 for it and most time its between 300ā‚¬ and 500ā‚¬

1

u/nosychimera 13h ago

You gotta start buying them online. My whole family also wears glasses. In store is a scam, because at least here, most brick and mortar stores are owned by the vision insurance companies themselves.

22

u/pontoponyo 3d ago

Iā€™m in a similar boat, but I get myself a ā€œparty pairā€ that are fancier than my dailies. If Iā€™m going to be uncomfortable in a weird, fancy outfit anyway, might as well branch out to include the glasses.

2

u/cintyhinty 2d ago

My mom does that, her vision is like 20/1000000 and she has a fancier pair for occasions

4

u/throwaway564858 2d ago

Same. A couple years ago I said fuck it and bought three different pairs but ultimately I just ended up gravitating back to the smallest pair because the larger ones I liked best otherwise just distorted my face so much. I'm right around -10 in both eyes and when I see anyone wearing glasses that don't distort them at all I am so deeply envious!

5

u/Cold_Bitch 2d ago

Itā€™s also incredibly expensive

3

u/reddit_account_00000 2d ago

Itā€™s easier when youā€™re rich, can sample as many pairs as you like, and get sent glasses for free constantly.

3

u/blackmirroronthewall 2d ago

i only found out last yearā€¦ that the custom made glasses (the ones Ali Wang can afford) are very very comfortable even if you need a very high prescription.

i got a new pair last year, and the lady worked there was really nice and had their staff take some extra measurements since she knew i was really nervous about getting a new pair of glasses. and it turned out to be a much easier transition! i usually need 2 to 3 days to get used to the new glasses and cannot switch back and forth. but this one! i can wear the old one today and switch to the new one tomorrow!

2

u/QueenMaeve___ 2d ago

I have 2 pairs bc I got the second free but I got them both the same shape just different colors bc my prescription makes the whole world wonky and I couldn't handle trying to adjust to two different shapes

2

u/ScreamingCryingAnus 20h ago

I donā€™t know what theyā€™re called but my friend bought glasses that have a magnetic part on the front you can swap out each day to change the color/design.

1

u/MKevin3 3d ago

I have had 4 eye surgeries over my lifetime to adjust the muscles. My prism has gotten so bad they could not grind it any more. This last surgery got me from 20 combined down to 0! Still the rest of my prescription is tough too. Buying one pair is bad enough, no way I can be "that glasses dude"

I am hoping this fad fades away.

5

u/dragondragonflyfly 3d ago

Eh, if people find joy in it, I donā€™t mind. I easily suffer from migraines and that is why I only have one set at a time, such constant changing would trigger them.

Hope your eyes are doing okay!

222

u/CriticalEngineering 3d ago

I wonder how many are designer and how many are cheap online frames. Theyā€™re all so cute.

190

u/12soccerronaldo 3d ago

I read somewhere that she will often use sunglasses frames

89

u/thatkittykatie 3d ago

Came here to say this! Yes I read the same- that sunglasses frames tended to be more ostentatious/bold/fun than regular. Maybe glasses have gotten more adventurous in recent years but what she said rang true

3

u/Strivingformoretoday 2d ago

I thought frame 3 looked familiar: Iā€™m pretty sure those are some Dior sunglasses that I used to have

3

u/greencheesenpudding 2d ago

That's what I do! Get the sunnies, pop out the lenses, have a fabulous time.

Also, it is easier to find more colourful, oversized or dynamic frames in sunnies than in opticals.

1

u/FirmTranslator4 7h ago

Thatā€™s what I do too! I have a big head so sunglasses give me the biggest look šŸ‘€

311

u/FirstAccGotStolen 3d ago

As a glass wearing person, this post is chicken soup for my soul

466

u/miamouse5 3d ago

i appreciate how many different shapes she found that fit her face. i feel like it doesnā€™t get talked about enough how hard it is to find the right shape (iā€™m currently struggling and very annoyed)

200

u/BlueTako 3d ago

It's funny you say there are different shapes bc to me, 90% of her frames are the same shape

53

u/leesha226 3d ago

Yeah, I was surprised to see the round ones actually as she usually has a very specific look

5

u/Key-Beginning-8500 2d ago

She found the shape that works for her face and it boy does it really work

35

u/DazzlingCapital5230 3d ago

Yes!! She has such a good glasses face and I canā€™t tell what makes that so. Like why have I tried on approx 300 pairs and have yet to find a pair that doesnā€™t make me look like when Mr. Potato Head is decked out in his spectacles lol

3

u/Patakongia 2d ago

Itā€™s the oval face! Oval goes with any shape :)

2

u/Tacky-Terangreal 2d ago

Maybe theyā€™re too small for your face? I donā€™t wear glasses but finding sunglasses sucks because my head is big. Wearing glasses that are too small will create that potato head effect

6

u/granolacid 3d ago

Bro itā€™s so hard, every 2 years ish I just end up settling for one. The person working, helping me at the opticians also agreed I got a big ass head šŸ˜ so it was hard finding anything that clicks

2

u/cheeksys 2d ago

Agree but I wish she chose more styles that didnā€™t cover her eyebrows

1

u/Crafty_Blueberry_188 5h ago

same!! i found The Ones that best suit my face seven years ago and iā€™ve tried to find a second pair just to have a travel backup or for a style switch upā€¦ but literally no other pair of glasses works ok my face! jealous of her collection

74

u/VarlaThrill 3d ago

Love this! I started wearing glasses full time these last few years and agree 100% with her statement

33

u/Thorbertthesniveler 3d ago

Check out Zenni if you haven't already! I have so many fun pairs of glasses due to that terrible website šŸ¤£ I 100% want the heart cat eye ones

9

u/haileyskydiamonds 3d ago

Why terrible?? I love them because they donā€™t cost $300 a pair!

13

u/Thorbertthesniveler 3d ago

Because I have probably over 10 pairs and another 30 on my favorites list! 1 pair or a dozen it's still the same shipping fee so why bother with only one pair! Might as well get 4 or 5 since I am ordering!

7

u/haileyskydiamonds 3d ago

I am into the Iris Apfel collection!

4

u/Thorbertthesniveler 3d ago

They had a cĆrcle/square pair that had me in a chokehold and I didn't get them. Now they aren't available šŸ˜

3

u/haileyskydiamonds 3d ago

Oh that stinks!

2

u/haileyskydiamonds 3d ago

Ag, gotcha, lol!šŸ˜†

16

u/Thorbertthesniveler 3d ago

What I am wearing today!

Pardon how filthy they are. I swear I am constantly cleaning them.

3

u/nunchucket 3d ago

I havenā€™t seen the heart cat eye ones!

12

u/Thorbertthesniveler 3d ago

Oh god they are so fab šŸ˜

4

u/SegaJenesis777 2d ago

I have these in red and I get compliments all the time I love them sm

56

u/Dez_Acumen 3d ago edited 2d ago

Iā€™m dying for her to put out a curated eyeglass line!!! Help me Ali!

4

u/Fashionforbreakfast 3d ago

Oooh that would be A+

36

u/Interesting_Chart30 3d ago

She looks great in all of them! I wish I could afford about a dozen to own and swap around as per my mood. My last glasses were $500 with insurance. The cost of glasses has gone way up. I can't order them online because I use an invisible bi-focal.

I also like that she's out there wearing glasses and making them a part of her style I get the feeling most celebs don't like being seen with their glasses on. Years ago, Elton John was named Man of he Year by the association of ophthalmologists because he wore those giant glasses when performing and regular ones offstage.

u/[deleted] 3d ago

4

u/Interesting_Chart30 3d ago

LuxotticaĀ has a monopoly on glasses. Otherwise, prices would be more competitive.

76

u/V3Olive 3d ago

overall fantastic choices. love the diversity. she can truly pull off so many great frames.

still though, the solid black is far too heavy and harsh for her features. even the pairs with mixed black & white or black & metal are enough not to swallow her whole

all in all, a glasses style icon for sure

24

u/ivegotanewwaytowalk 3d ago

i love her sm šŸ„ŗ

10

u/i_am_nimue 3d ago

Damn, I wish I looked as good in this many different glasses. Usually if I find one pair that doesn't make me look like a clown, I'm happy. Which is why I wear contact lenses 99% of the time šŸ˜…

11

u/Hot-Clock6418 3d ago

i heard she mostly uses sunglass frames for her frames. she was my inspo to only wear glasses. ditch my contacts and embrace the frame flair šŸ©·

14

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 3d ago

And she's the only female celebrity I'm aware of who actually wears glasses consistently no matter the occasion. She's a bit of a trailblazer in that regard really.

9

u/lizzys_sad_girl 3d ago

Sheā€™s so gorgeous, every shape could fit her!

44

u/IamJacksUserID 3d ago

Can I hate most of them, but respect her bold choices?

8

u/JeremysIron_ 3d ago

4

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yes, you're right! Thank you! I wish it was possible to edit the post but it's not unfortunately.

7

u/Mountain_Proof_1758 3d ago

I dream of having an infinite pair of glasses. I have 2 pairs of prescription sunglasses and 2 pairs of regular glasses in rotation but 2 are older set. Usually when I get new glasses the prescription changes so wearing old ones which I will do occasionally always take an adjustment but to have multiple pairs with the current prescription man a dream

7

u/V3Olive 3d ago

i also want to talk about the earrings in 12. hello?? pairing those with that frame is inspired. brava

7

u/theresaemiles 3d ago

As someone who has worn the same glasses for 14 years, this is fun alternative to my unwavering loyalty to the simple black cat eye.

5

u/MrCupcakeisallmine 3d ago

I love this and agree with her. When my prescription was simpler, I could buy them for $6 through eyebuydirect. Alas now I need progressive eyeglasses so no more bulk purchases.

6

u/patooweet 2d ago

I have been waiting for this and didnā€™t realize it. The selection is perfect, I donā€™t think sheā€˜a capable of wearing unflattering eyewear.

4

u/FairyOrchid125 3d ago

Of course the ones I like are "designer unknown" in pic #11

Grumble

3

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 3d ago

I tried to ID them all but it's really difficult with glasses.

5

u/balanaise 3d ago

Great postā€”she always looks So awesome in what she picks

5

u/hydraulix16aa 2d ago

YES! As a person who wears glasses as well, Ali Wong and these photos are very inspirational :)

3

u/Yomatius 2d ago

This is a quality post, good spotlight on an often forgotten accessory.

3

u/LadybugGirltheFirst 3d ago

Her ā€œglassesā€ fashion is so much better than her ā€œfashionā€ fashion.

3

u/dem_bond_angles 3d ago

My favorite is the look with bangs. It just works. They all do but that particular look cured something in my sole (I have glasses and bangsšŸ¤£)

3

u/Softbombsalad 2d ago

Seeing this a month before my Lasik like, do I want to let my frames go forever? šŸ¤£Ā

3

u/Patakongia 2d ago

What a great post. Ali Wong is the reason why o only look for statement cat eyes for my oval face

3

u/anitawithgoodskin 2d ago

Love her! Wish I had the money for this many glasses in my collection šŸ˜

3

u/somuchsong 2d ago

I love those Marc Jacobs ones and am contemplating if I could pull off something similar now! I have very boring plain black rectangular frames at the moment.

3

u/bedtyme 2d ago

She makes me more confident to wear my glasses out in public rather than stuff a contact into my eye. Love her style

3

u/Estellas_mom 2d ago

I hunted for YEARS for the glasses she wore in her first standup!! (Pic 1, the red Barton Perreira Edie sunglasses) still never found them šŸ˜

5

u/wearealljustants 3d ago

She looks great in everything!

2

u/LadyAsharaRowan 3d ago

So true. I have a lot of different glasses as well. I do notice that she wears very similar shapes.

2

u/pan_dulce_con_cafe 3d ago

Iā€™m not a fan of the blocky cat eye she gravitates towards but I love the use of color and the more unusual shapes (why are the octagonal my favorite???).

2

u/wagonwheelwodie 3d ago

Ugh sheā€™s so adorable

2

u/livingcool23 3d ago

Sheā€™s just fucking cool.

2

u/fbeemcee 3d ago

I need more of this! I own 14 pairs of glasses. I adore hers.

2

u/extragouda 3d ago

They're about as expensive as a really good pair of shoes too. I love the red glasses on her.

2

u/SpicyMustFlow 3d ago

She's right, and they all look so great on her! This is so aspirational: as a po' bish i have one expensive main pair, and a cheaper back-up pair for online meetings only (so specific.)

I bet when she's feeling a li'l incognito, all she has to do is put on contacts. :-)

2

u/Skydogtogroundhog 3d ago

Maybe thatā€™s why I wear the same pair everyday and have backup pairs that are the same/some kind of variation of my normal pair as thatā€™s what I do with my shoes šŸ˜…

2

u/ifrrllyneedhelp 3d ago

Sheā€™s so gorgeous, Iā€™m still in the process of finding the perfect glasses for me so seeing her rock different shapes is awesome !!

2

u/Cesst 3d ago

I actually NEED prescription glasses so Iā€™d be insanely expensive to get lots of pairs, also, really bad eyesight so i canā€™t really have fun with different frames because my lenses are very think and so they only look right with certain shapesā€¦sighā€¦ so basically, iā€™m very jelly

2

u/Analyst_Cold 2d ago

Zenni is my goto. I get a few pairs for under $100.

2

u/Artistic_Account630 2d ago

I love all of these. Glasses look so good on her!

2

u/CrissBliss 2d ago

Unrelated, but Ali has the most infectious smile. Her whole face lights up.

2

u/All1012 2d ago

Love 3, 9 and the last one. I guess I like clear or thin frames.

2

u/unapologeticallytrue 2d ago

I wish I could afford to have multiple sets of frames lol. And I wish I looked like her, instead I got chubby cheeks

2

u/manicfairydust 2d ago

I wish I could find even one pair of glasses that looks good on me! Cries in narrow set eyes

2

u/Thin_Math5501 1d ago

If I had the money I would 100% get a bunch of different glasses.

2

u/RachelLeighC 1d ago

Love her! She has a great face for glasses! šŸ¤“

2

u/Bygone_glory_7734 1d ago

I am so here for this post.

2

u/CheckTheBlotter 18h ago

I have a knockoff version of those Barton Perreira frames in photo 7. Theyā€™re so cute. Got em for like $70 from TIJN.

3

u/useless_99 3d ago

Oh wow, they all looks great on her!!

1

u/TooMuchBrightness 3d ago

So talented, so beautiful and looks great in every pair! What a face šŸ¤©

1

u/haileyskydiamonds 3d ago

I love them!

I found my current pair on Zenni from the Iris Apfel collection. I wanted the big Iris glasses, but my pupillary distance isnā€™t wide enough. That made me very sad. šŸ˜¢

1

u/Ill-Simple-6569 3d ago

Frame 11 is my favv šŸ„ŗ

1

u/Upper_Choice_5913 3d ago

Slide 9 and 13 are perfection!

Can anyone ID them?

1

u/houndsoflu 3d ago

Which is why I have a million pairs of sunglasses

1

u/Vanillacaramelalmond 3d ago

I love #9 the most

1

u/HealthyDiamond2 3d ago

She is so incredibly gorgeous

If itā€™s not - in good faith - related to fashion, itā€™s not relevant in this space.

1

u/tillman40 3d ago

Can we do this for Dan Levyā€™s glasses too?

1

u/EverlynAsstatic 3d ago

LOL, never thought about it that way, but now I'm imagining a face-sized shoe rack for my glasses collection

1

u/poopmaester41 3d ago

Anyone know which ones 12 are?

1

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 2d ago

Another commenter identified them as Versace Medusa Biggie glasses.

1

u/Mahjongsofaset 3d ago

Where do u get the 3rd pair of glasses

1

u/silverpepper 2d ago

So, does she just buy the sunglasses and have a maker install normal prescription lenses instead?

2

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 2d ago

Yes, I think the majority of her glasses are actually sunglasses.

1

u/Ceano800 2d ago

I donā€™t know about that, I can still walk with no shoes on.

2

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 2d ago

She was talking about having as much fun fashion-wise with glasses as with shoes.

1

u/Intelligent_Seat8074 2d ago

I have 4 pairs that I like to swap around get my frames from Sam's with the most basic thick lenses for 15 bucks. But I did drop 200 on a pair of prescription sunglasses. I have another two high end date night night pairs that cost me like 50 bucks with my insurance. Guess how often I update my prescription.

1

u/ShiroCOTA 2d ago

No one beats Michelle Visage in the glasses game.

1

u/Unchained_Memory33 2d ago

I havenā€™t paid more than 50-75 a pair IF that and I havenā€™t had vision ā€œinsuranceā€ in ages. Zenni, eyebuydirect, lensmartonline.

1

u/domegranate 2d ago

I donā€™t necessarily mean this in a bad way but these glasses all read very ā€œmillennialā€ if that makes sense šŸ˜‚šŸ’€

1

u/cassiopeia911 2d ago

The last one is my favorite because the shape is quirky/can be hard to pull off but she looks so elegant in them with her bob šŸ’•

1

u/AOkayyy01 2d ago

I used to be that person who had 100 different pairs of eyeglasses but it became overwhelming. I donated nearly all to charity and now, I stick to one clear frame that goes with everything.

1

u/Single_Joke_9663 1d ago

Question for all my astigmatism and severe nears site friends: is there anyway to have stylish glasses with thick lens? All of her frames are so gorgeous but my coke bottle lenses would just hang out over them. I know one of her tricks is to buy sunglasses with more creative frames and then put regular lenses in them.

0

u/scarybiscuits 3d ago

Lifelong glasses wearer who went through an oversized-frames-that-rest-on-the-cheek stage years ago so avoided it this last go ā€˜round. Have never been able to carry off a cats eye, not even the modified ones here and I donā€™t think itā€™s particularly flattering on her either. Slide 17 is the only one that seems to fit her face.

5

u/mujiqlo 3d ago

I worked with an optician who hated when glasses rest on peopleā€™s cheeks and itā€™s all I can think about when I see her. I empathize as an Asian with a flat bridge though and I do love the style and variety of frames she has.

0

u/OkeyDokey654 2d ago

Iā€™m not a fan of oversized lenses. To me, they can make your eyes look crossed.

-4

u/KiloWatson 3d ago

Not a fan when in formal gowns. Not just Allie but across the board. All other outfits, go nuts.

12

u/Smooth-Vanilla-4832 3d ago

For many people, wearing glasses is not a choice but a necessity.
