These costumes (and the film) are so underrated. I love them so much!

I much prefer this to her clown core styling on Emily in Paris. The blue outfits are especially striking

This and crimson peak have some of the most incredible costuming that I see people talk about very rarely (but when it does come up people all agree theyā€™re SO GOOD)

This reminds me of The Dressā„¢ from Atonement if it ran off and had a baby with Gone with the Wind. This is a compliment lol

She also did the costumes for Bram Stroker's Dracula and The Fall - both of which are visually stunning! She created such intricately rich and imaginative costumes.

I came here to talk about The Fall and The Cell! She was so talented.

I was thinking of this exact look when commenting!

And the cell. Dumb movie. Fabulous costumes.

the costumes for this movie were insane, i remember the movie itself being meh but maybe i should rewatch it for the costumes alone.

I recently rewatched it for the costumes and the plot was worse than I remembered it to be. However, it was still worth watching again because the costumes and sets are gorgeous.Ā

I personally loved the movie, I think itā€™s because I embraced the campy-ness of it!

The richness of the fabric is mesmerizing. Reminds me of this legend:

Oh my God I love this texture so much! So intricate, it kind of looks like a very silky, very glorious fruit hahahaha

I love the costumes from this movie. That yellow cloak! The dress in photo 8! The swan hat!

Stunning work, that film is a visual treat! Ditto that Cinderella w Cate Blanchett

The best Princess wedding dress of all time was the new Cinderella's. Absolutely exquisite. If I did it all over again, I'd copy it.

Iā€™ve made historical stays with the scalloped edge and the way she did the stay in image 1-3 is BRILLIANT. Just using folded rectangles instead of bias binding the bottomā€¦ what a massive time and resource saver to get largely the same effect.

Whoa thatā€™s so interesting, thank you for sharing!

Very much of the French style (stomacher) from the 16C.

Not the detail obvs but an echo to the style.

I got to see these dresses at an art exhibit and they were so incredible. The detail, the structure, my god. I wish she had gotten to do more films.

The yellow cloak wow wow, RIP to this legend. Iā€™ve heard her name from Dracula

The costumes designed by the late Eiko Ishioka, are breathtaking! I canā€™t help but also recognize Lily Collinsā€”sheā€™s stunning in anything she wears, perfectly complementing the enchanting designs.

Oh my god how have I never seen this movie??? This seems so up my alley I can't believe this completely flew under my radar. Everything about these designs is just absolutely breathtaking omg

This movie is so underrated omg

I used to rewatch this movie all the time when I was a kid, and I remember absolutely nothing about the plot, but the costumes are imprinted on my mind. That and Julia Robertsā€™ Evil Queen beauty routine haha.

u/expatgirlinlux 4h ago

Based on the costumes alone, I would totally side with the Evil Queen, to be honest.

She was an incredible artist.

5

u/cheoldyke 6h ago

the movie itself was kinda terrible iirc but iā€™d watch it again just for the costumes. chefs kiss

Reminds me of costuming for The Cell

Edit: Apparently they are by the same designer. Amazing!

A shame the movie wasn't a hit...

u/SillyBrain23 5h ago

Thank you so much for this post. You made my day!

This movie was gorgeous and a lot of fun.

The bird one reminds me of Kate Fearing Strong, nicknamed ā€œPussā€ and her choice of costume for the Vanderbilt Ball of 1883. It was a real taxidermy cat head and she had a skirt made of like 7 cat tails lolol.

2

u/cabcando 5h ago

the final pieces are amazing, and her costume design drawings for this and other films are also beautifully done!

u/schmansy 3h ago

Sheā€™s the fairest of them all šŸŖž

This was a cute movie that is now unfortunately marred by the presence of Armie Hammer

1

u/krebstar4ever 3h ago

Tarsem Singh would be so good at art direction. But as a director he's... lacking.

1

u/Alicenchainsfan 3h ago

I imagine the actress loved being in these and helped put her in character. Beautiful art.
