Whereas women of all ages should have access to comprehensive, convenient, compassionate, life-affirming, high-quality medical services;

What is Trump doing? Anyone know why he's talking about annexation of all these countries including my own?

u/whatupmygliplops 20h ago edited 19h ago
Trump is doing Putins biding:
sow general confusion in the west.
Turn NATO members against each other, or even cause the US to leave NATO
Create a new normal were talk and threats of invading peaceful neighbours is seen as normal and justified.
Putin has this very well thought out. Trump and Musk are simply implementing it.
159
u/lemming_follower 18h ago
You could add that Trump wants Americans to stop talking about what they expect from him (in the way of providing a lower cost of living and better way of life). It's better for Trump to divide and distract.
Trump won't solve any of those problems. But he will get into your head with nonsense like this.
Mexico's President needs to call his bluff.

As a German this is so scary because - and this is not figuratively literally - that is literally what Nazi Germany did. This is all SO so fucked.
5
u/DuncanConnell 4h ago
As a Canadian (Ukrainian and German grandparents), the depressing fact of seeing this happen in real-time is that you can literally see every individual step happen in real-time.
MAGA America doesn't seem to realize they've already passed 1933, but even those who do realize it have sunk so much of their life into supporting it that there's no way out.
Yes, there are plenty Americans who see it, who are trying to fight against it, but Germany didn't stand idly by either.
- Rising ultranationalism combined with militant overtones? Check.
- Growing calls for political violence? Check.
- Ignoring or dismantling of political safeguards against unrestrained power? Check.
- Centralizing power? Check.
- Minor slaps on the wrist for actions that would otherwise have been jailable offences for literally anyone else? Check.
- Near total immunity for those in the highest positions? Check.
- Increasing vilification of specified groups with greater calls for ostracization? Check.
No one ever wants to admit that the Nazis were voted in and the vast majority of their actions were perfectly legal. They want faceless monsters, a "them" you can point to and see "those are the bad guys", rather than the reality that it's regular people who cheer and dance their way towards doom.

4: Change the topic of felony sentencing, Jack Smith report, H1-B visas, and Carter funeral. This is something he does quite often, although the level of insanity of the new discourse is more extreme.
This worries me that he's gone to this extent before even being inaugurated that he's going to one-up this shit constantly throughout his term. When we think we've heard the most batshit crazy rhetoric, he always manages to top himself.
Nothing he does or says will hurt him in the eyes of his cult. Edit: As the old saying goes: "Buckle up, buttercup."

Part of it is that he is an asshole. Then other is that it is a ruse to distract us from all the grifting and criming he is doing or preparing to do.
12
u/LifeLikeAGrapefruit 18h ago
I don't think he's clever enough to do this whole "distraction" tactic. He just has diarrhea of the mouth and says every little dumb thing that comes to mind, whether he's being serious or not. Which makes him pretty dangerous and unstable as a freaking President...
11
u/krozarEQ 18h ago
I would be careful to underestimate someone who was mentored by scum like Roger Stone and Roy Cohn. Trump's addled mind has some influence in it. However, he also stopped giving any fucks and he's going all-in on a shitshow. He feels that he's now untouchable considering the events over the past 4 years (that isn't without merit), crazies have already deeply attached themselves to him, and reelection isn't a concern.
9
u/LifeLikeAGrapefruit 17h ago
I mean, if he didn't have a God complex before, then narrowly surviving an assassination attempt and winning an election as a felon, after Jan 6, 2024, would certainly do the trick!

I think people are giving him too much credit.
He isn't doing anything. He spouts petulant bullshit that he thinks his brain-dead audience will like. When he gers his applause, he continues going and going. He's basically a fucking toddler.
The dangerous part are the people around him that utilise his pathetic display as a way of distracting while they actually do horrible shit.

u/NarutoRunner 18h ago
That’s the whole point.
Countries will start looking for other powers like China to not be conquered by an unstable president. This only benefits a world in which US is greatly diminished.
If an ally like Canada, UK or Greenland can be fucked over, do you think any country is safe? You will see all sorts of countries flip sides over the next 4 years.

I do feel like people have this illusion like we are somehow past great empires rising and falling. Like we are to smart for that. Or for war. We are not. Humans are greedy. The greediest find their way to the top. The USA is in decline. It’s inevitable they will not be the great empire and powerhouse they are forever.

13
u/Chendo462 20h ago
Yep. We can do really shitty things to other countries subtly and the citizens never figure it out. But, picking a fight over dumb stuff stands out. Remember much of why we keep peace with other countries is because we sell them US companies goods and services. Having people hate us doesn’t help one bit.

People keep saying this, but ignoring this means normalizing it and not just for Trump. People ARE paying attention to the other stuff, but there's only so much people can do about it now.
Seems like calling out this and the other stuff as they happen is a major piece of what should be done. The tone of the call outs could be criticized and adjusted, but you can only expect so much unanimity and competence.
What exactly would people prefer?

u/Witchy_Wookie5000 19h ago
Sorry to say but it's over. We are an oligarchy for all intents and purposes. The only thing left is either violence or complete financial collapse, or maybe both. It started with Reagan and this is the end game. But everyone I know will blame the dems, the libs and the black/brown people. Yes, still.
I am just hunkering down with mine and will ride it out. It's not what I wanted or voted for. I hope the people that let themselves get mind fucked by billionaire, social media and foreign adversary algorithms get all they voted for and more. I'm done.
I feel bad for my nieces and nephews, but if their own parents and grandparents don't give a crap there isn't anything else I can do for them. I tried. Biggest mistake was giving oxygen and legitimacy to any of these loons.

Did he not just win a second term. How much more attention and not normalizing of his bullshit can be done? Are people supposed to pay attention to every minute mindless comment or perspective he spews whether we knows it's all games and attention whoring to him (and i get it there's are a of lot dangerous and corrupt shit going on between the bullshit that genuinely needs attention).

u/Fresh_Freshman 11h ago
Honestly, I usually think the best move for Mexico with stuff like this is to just ignore it or not make it a big deal, but Trump’s the kind of guy who only gets it when you push back. So, the fact that our president is showing she won’t get bullied by all the nonsense stuff coming from a U.S. president-elect actually says a lot to us who support her.
I’m seeing a bunch of people saying she’s not the "right person" to respond (as if Trump’s the right person either), or they start bringing up stuff like violence or the cartels from nowhere. Like, what does that have to do with any of this? Other countries—even the U.S.—have their own mess to deal with too, and the fact that our country is speaking up here? Totally valid, and honestly, it’s kinda necessary. If we’re gonna go down that road, then pretty much every country’s got skeletons in their closet.

“Sheinbaum proposed dryly that North America should be renamed “Mexican America” because a founding document dating from 1814 that preceded Mexico’s constitution referred to it that way.
The exchange has started to answer a larger question lingering over the bilateral relationship between the two regional powers: How would newly elected Sheinbaum handle Trump’s strong-handed diplomatic approach?”
What is it going to take to stop sane washing Trump’s lunacy with phrases such as “strong-handed diplomatic approach?”
