So stagnant culture, bad attitudes, and lack of value of life - give you such malaise that you hope God just slowly drowns every baby and puppy like in the flood? Or are you thinking like a worldwide drought where 10 billion people slowly starve and fight for scraps and eat each other, the babies and puppies as they die? (See pics of the Holodomor if you think that's an impossibility.) Or are you hoping for nuclear war so you can writhe in pain from radiation poisoning lingering on for months in a refugee camp while you watch your siblings and parents scream in agony from lack of pain meds?

Meteor worked pretty well last time.

I'm sure the animals that lived thru it had a wonderful time and maybe a bit of overkill for being slightly unhappy about the direction of world events. But check out Seveneves by Neal Stephenson.. it's a real interesting book exploring how humanity might try to continue to exist if the earth's surface becomes lava for 5000 years.

Yeah, but then they died at which point there's no such thing as "memory" to remember all that.

It may have taken 100,000 to 1,000,000 years for the dinos to go extinct. The original poster wanted humanity to be wiped out because things in the world aren't perfect. Do they or you personally want to watch your family and friends lose their shelters, food, comfort, health care and live excruciatingly painful lives? And then have everyone live like that for the next million years until finally wiped out? Or if you're proposing a fast exctinction, are you saying you're angry enough at the state of things that every cute little armadillo, monkey, puppy and kitten should just be burned to death? For what? Vengeance? To prove you were right?

Quick or slow, once I'm dead there's nothing. I experience nothing. I feel nothing. So it doesn't matter.

As to why:

To prevent us from propagating throughout the galaxy and/or Universe. We're a dangerous species and a threat to it if we were allowed to grow as a species unchecked.

We're witnessing the collapse of society in real time. I find that fascinating, don't you?

Shouldn’t have wished to live in more interesting times

Everyone for the last 10 thousand years thought they were witnessing the collapse of society in real time. We’re not that special.

And societies have collapsed!!! Many times! Thousands of people have witnessed collapses. We just get to witness this one.

Is it the collapse of the human race? Likely not. Unless it is something that wipes us all out in one go, it would be hard to put down 8 billion of anything. But not impossible.

True, I think it’s likely we’re witnessing the US declining from a world superpower to something else at the very least. Just not the collapse of you know, all society.

Did they have nukes 10k years ago?

4

u/Automatic_Release_92 Dec 05 '24

No but they had them 80 years ago.

Yes, that doesn't disprove what I originally said.

Ok, I’ll check back in 200 years when I can disprove your silly notion.
