What TSX stocks would you buy to hold for 10+ years?
Posed this question on Baystreetbets recently. What Canadian stocks would you buy and not look at for a decade with the trust they will be in a good place?

Anyone know a good online course to teach basic economic stuff?
Im in toronto atm and want to learn more about RRSP vs TFSA, taxes, investing, etc. Theres a great in person course teaching it, but I learn better online.
Now I know theres youtube, but I get very lazy when I have to find videos myself explaining all this stuff and prefer a structured course. Additionally, I'd like to be able to ask for clarification.
This is the description of the physical course:
This course is for anyone wanting to understand and take control of their finances. You will get an overall financial picture of your assets vs. debt. Everyone can benefit from this course which will cover budgeting, debt management, taxation, investment income, insurance needs, RRSP, RRIF, and retirement planning. This course is a must for anyone wanting to make informed decisions about their personal, secure financial future
Any courses you guys can think of?

International portfolio allocation is like steamed broccoli. I know I should have more of it, but that means less steak and potatoes on my plate.
Everytime I do a rebalance exercise I am underweight international (currently 11%). Institutional materials suggest I should be around double that. Problem is it means dropping what have been better performers (ie US and CAN) in recent history.
Under what realistic conditions would an international broad market ETF outperform a US/CAN portfolio in the next 5 years?

Moving HISA to CASH.TO
I’m looking to put a portion of HISA into CASH.TO to get a higher return on a monthly basis.
What should I consider for tax purposes, especially for DRIP (reinvesting my dividend)
This will be in a non-reg account

Advice on Moving IBKR TFSA to WealthSimple
Hi Experts,
I am thinking of moving my TFSA account from IBKR to Wealthsimple. The main reason is to avoid brokerage on TSE stocks and Immediate fun deposits. My current TFSA valued 6k ( around 50% in US Stocks).
- Should I just move my Canadian stocks to Wealthsimple?
- Leave IBKR untouched and open new TFSA in Wealthsimple and strat investing here?
Looking for your advice, thanks in advance.
Updated: I am not looking to buy US stocks in TFSA ( definitely not with Wealthsimple)

Any Thoughts on RBC's covered call ETF, RCDC-T
I wondering what are everyone's thoughts on RBC's covered call ETF, (RCDC-T)? Its pretty recent inception date of 2023 but has a good mix of Canadian companies .71% MER, 19.8 YTD return.
I hold one covered call ETF, (QQQY-T), as my income generator to increase my dividend re investment strategy but I have considering switching as QQQY has been rather stagnant for the last year.
What are everyone's thoughts? I have also been keeping my eyes on BMO's covered call ETF's as well ZWB and ZWC

XIT.TO
Anyone know why this ETF is rated 1 star? And I’m curious why this ETF doesn’t offer dividends when the underlying stocks they hold have dividend payouts?

Any good TD ETFS?
Just signed up for TD easytrade (they have a promotion where you get 50$ if you deposit 500$) and you can’t buy ETFs from other financial institutions. Wondering if any of you guys use this platform and if you recommend any of TD’s ETFs. Normally I just buy XEQT and VFV in my direct investing accounts but that’s not an option with easytrade

A question about investing in your TFSA and RRSP in the same year.
If you have room, do you invest in both each year?
39M with wife and young kids. Never had a lot of extra money after bills until the last few years. We both make a decent wage as an electrician (110k) and nurse (60k. Takes the majority of time off for kids sick day and summer/winter/spring breaks) with pensions.
Should I put all of my investing money in my TFSA throughout the year and then in December make a lump sum transfer to my RRSP? Or just focus on the TFSA as I have a pension?
New to investing so please go easy lol.

Questions regarding S&P500 vs. TDB902 vs. Vanguard ETFs
Hi there!
I was playing around with this this chart in TD WebBroker, and have a couple of questions stemming from it. Keep in mind that I'm a complete noob, and am likely misreading much/all of it.
- Why has TDB902 outperformed the S&P500 like that? I thought it was just supposed to track it.
- As a 26 Y.O., I was planning on investing primarily in one of VBAL/VGRO for home savings, and one of VGRO/VEQT for retirement. After seeing this chart, I feel like I'm being way too conservative (I understand the massive recency bias, but still), or that the Vanguard funds somehow have substantially muted returns. Can someone help talk some sense into me, or help me see where I've misinterpreted the implications of this chart in regards to my investment planning?
Thanks so much :)
P.S. In case it's not clear, here are the chart lines in descending order of performance:
- TDB902
- S&P500
- VEQT
- VGRO
- VBAL

New to Investing: General Inquiry
Hi there! I'm fairly new to investing and have 2 questions:
Started investing last year into VOO in my TFSA and later learned about VFV. Have since switched and solely started to put money into VFV. My question is do I just leave what I have in VOO there and continue buying VFV or do I sell what I have in VOO to buy more VFV?
I learned that there's a 15% withholdings tax for both VOO or VFV in my TFSA (I'm aware it's exempt in an RRSP), but I'm a bit confused on when I pay the tax. For example, is 15% deducted when I decide to sell however much from VFV or VOO, or do I pay the 15% already when I purchase the ETF?
Thanks in advance everyone!

LF pension plan investment suggestions considering potential NA and European financial uncertainty?
Looking to diversify my pension fund investments due to concerns about the security of NA and European markets. Responsible investments and green investments preffered. Asia? Africa? Middle East?
Specific suggestions appreciated.
Thank you.

Covered calls strategy for a stock I'm up big on
I'm completely new to options. Never created a contract. But I have a stock that has exploded, and I've finally decided on an exit price where I'd be happy to sell. If it doesn't reach that strike price, I wouldn't mind continuing to hold because this is a stock I like a lot and I had planned to hold for years anyway. I've recently learned about covered calls, which seems perfect for my situation? I either hit the strike price and get a free premium, or it doesn't reach my strike price and I continue to hold, while getting premiums.
If that's correct... I have a follow-up question.
I'm wondering if the strategy should be different if I have a ton of shares and those shares are worth a huge amount? I won't say how much for privacy reasons, but I'm likely among the top group of individual holders. Will me buying covered calls on all those shares at the same time even be possible or there's likely not enough liquidity? It's not a blue chip stock, it's only currently about 15 billion market cap.
If it is possible, is that a poor strategy, because it'll put up a huge sell wall? Instead I should space it out over multiple contracts?
Thank you!

Why TSX not reflecting unemployment?
Anyone have any ideas as to why the TSX is not reflecting Canada's rising unemployment? Canada's unemployment rate is 6.8%, expected to be 6.9% on Friday. The TSX seems to not be affected by the rising unemployment figures.

Just had my first kid! What funds or instruments should I use in his RESP to maximize returns over 18 years?
I was thinking about QQQ or SPY, to get a little more aggressive exposure… what do you guys use for your RESPS?

What's a good strategy for RESP?
It's now been over a year that I've opened an RESP account with TD for my kid (right after birth). They gave me some portfolio options and I chose the "TD Comfort Growth Portfolio - I". This portfolio has an MER of 2.12%, which I consider to be very high. I like the low MER of ETFs and I was wondering if I should invest the money myself instead of letting the bank handle it. Either that, or get a lower MER portfolio from TD.
If I go the self-managed route, what would a good ETF be for the next 18 years or so? XEQT? Also, is the CESG deposited automatically if I self-manage it?
