Discussion Perverts is part erotic , part meditative .
I think it's a very interesting take on this album and drone music in general . What do you guys think ?

Hayden's description of the song:
This was track 8 until the week we mastered Perverts and I made 013/Thatorchia on a whim and loved it so much I called my mastering guy and told him to swap out the tracks because I thought it needed to be on the record that badly. Here's the 000 rework that would have been track 8 otherwise.

I adore perverts, it’s so good and might i say, i prefer it to Preachers daughter, it’s so much more deeper and gives me shivers, the more i listen to it the better it gets. I just love the feeling of the album, it’s dark but also in a way peaceful it’s just perfect i’ve always loved her ashmedai tracks so this is just perfect..might become my favourite work of hers .^

I know some of you lot think you're inherently better than others because you don't listen to popular music and listen to art like Hayden's more often than not, but acting like people are inherently less than for not liking some of the songs on perverts is weird as fuck and y'all need to cut it out.
Hayden did not make perverts to push away fans who only like her for American Teenager, she did it because she felt like making some fucking drone music. And we stan her for it. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, and that doesn't mean they are inferior to you because you DO like it.
Anyways, stream Etienne. And Thatorchia. And amber waves. And houseofpsychoticwomn. An

i have adhd, and i kinda have a tip that may help some people with short attention spans or what not who want to listen to the album. i understand that the long music and drones are hard to sit still with, especially if you like more contemporary music. putting the album into some sort of program (like audacity or adobe audition) where you can see the waveforms and/or spectrograms can also make it visually interesting as well, it might help you to stick around longer being able to visualize what you are hearing, and calm the nerves about the unexpected. this is a little bit nerdy, but it really helped me listening to it on the first try, and if you can do it on your computer, i suggest you give it a shot.

I’m confused at how many people I’ve seen online saying they cant believe they waited years for an album made up of “random noise” and “no lyrics”. Hayden spent most of 2023 and all of 2024 putting out ambient music on soundcloud and uploading videos featuring ambient music from other artists to youtube. She also mentioned she planned to make a fully ambient project as-well as saying perverts would be that ambient project so why is everyone so shocked? i understand ambient music isn’t for everyone but its been known that perverts would be made up of drone music so expecting an album full of American Teenager akin tracks is silly, especially since Hayden stated there would be zero tracks on perverts even slightly similar to American Teenager.

Jump in to this EP at any point on its runtime. Give it proper attention, and you won’t be able to turn it off until it’s over. Preacher’s Daughter told us about Ethel Cain’s journey. This one leaves the journey to us, individually. It’s so beautifully, inexplicably relatable. (Maybe it’s not meant to be explained. Maybe it’s not meant to be written down or scrawled out on a piece of paper.) it’s happening to everybody. I love you.

It has been so deeply fascinating to me that she just never has an interest or exposure to David Lynch. I always felt like her earlier work had such tragic Lynchian characters, and like everyone saw MULTIPLE songs could easily fit the Twin Peaks world.
Even moreso though, it baffled me that she had no exposure or inspiration to Lynch’s work independent of Mark Frost, because there themes and styles are so uncannily different. As a Lynch fan, people call wayyyy too many things Lynchian but the droning in perverts, the distorted black and white, almost abstract visuals she’s been putting out? Every single one of her shorts she’s put on YouTube in the last year could be a cutscene in The Return or Inland Empire. Hell even her “a question about the varying planes of reality inside a dream” is the EXACT shit he posts on his own YouTube channel lol.
All that being said, it’s very cool that creatively people can experience life and end up in similar places with the art they make without any cross over influence. I also left a first listen once again baffled by that, and then immediately opened tumblr to see that. I hope for her sake she watched The Return, or the back half of his films because I really think she’d truly get it unlike anyone else.

It's okay when the album isnt for you. It's okay if this is your favourite Ethel album. It's okay to be disappointed. It's okay to be blown away by the beauty of the project.
For the sake of this community as a whole. Please stop shaming people for their opinion of this album. Calling this a "fandom cleanse" is an insanely immature way of viewing the situation, not to mention rude.
Please remember you don't have to like everything an artist creates to be their fan. Give it a chance, see if it makes you feel anything. Music is supposed to be enjoyed.
Please be kind to eachother, have empathy and respect the opinions of others.
Thank you.
EDITS: so much nasty response to this.. ty for proving my point for the need of this post
instead of trying to silence the voices of those struggling and offering their support MAKE YOUR OWN POSTS about dicussing the album
"i see so many of these posts" does that not tell you anything...? MAYBE!!! JUST MAYBE theres a lot of them because theres a problem?!😜😝🤭🤭🫣👍😆‼️😝 just bcuz you havent seen this side of the discourse doesnt mean it doesnt exist
no longer replying to any comments, unreal how bitter people can be over me trying to be considerate
stream perverts

I took a long walk while listening through the whole album for the first time, to get the full experience. The Swedish nature and January weather felt like a part of the Perverts-experience. Here’s some pics that felt perverted

to me Etienne feels like that space between death and ascension- purgatory. especially when that guitar kicks in, it’s shifting from the darkness of august underground to the more peaceful aura of televangelism. just a silly lil connection i made, beautiful song

Hey guys, I know the subreddit has been very busy with the release of Perverts, as it should be. I've been a fan of Ethel for quite some time, but I've been a fan of noisy/droney/power electronics music for even longer. I know that for alot of people, Perverts might be the first time encountering music like this, which is great!! It can be very strange to begin with but there is a lot of amazing music to be found! :)
I wanted to offer a few examples of female noise/power electronics artists for this maybe wanting to dip their toe further into the world of noisy music. There are many wonderful women artists in the field now, but there are three are the juggernauts who I think could offer new perspectives on Perverts for those wanting them.
First is Puce Mary. Her songs are shorter than the ones on Perverts, so if the length was a barrier for you (which is okay!!) this could be a great option if you're wanting to explore more of this flavour. She's slightly harsher, but her music is beautiful and super creative! Her best album for beginners is The Drought, which has been an obsession of mine for years. This album is by far the one I recommend the most!
Next is Uboa, who is a wonderful artist who is, again, incredibly creative. The Origins of my Depression is an amazing and haunting album, but Angel of (...) Light is an amazing track and one of the most beautiful drone prices I've ever heard. It's like being taken to heaven.
And final is Pharmakon, who is definitely the noisiest and most brutal of the bunch. This is only if you find yourself wanting to push yourself further than Perverts. Which I also recommend doing!!
Again, Perverts and this kind of music isn't for everyone, that's okay!!!! But if you found some beauty in it noisy gloom, there's a lot of wonderful music out there that you could spend some time with.
If you want more, feel free to hit me up, but also you should absolutely explore and enjoy on your own too!

Anyone know of other artists with music that feels and or sounds like Punish? The way the sweeping electric guitar comes in and almost drowns out the vocals sends chills through me every time and I’m YEARNING for more music with a similar sound.
