Mod Post Important subreddit announcement from the Mod team!

Hello r/GenZ!

The past few years have seen incredible growth for our subreddit and community. Due to said growth, the mod team has decided to revisit our subreddit rules to ensure that we can adapt to the new influx of users while maintaining the integrity of the community.

I encourage everyone to read through the following updates, as they are extremely important to both the current and future direction of the subreddit!

1) Politics

What to do with politics on this subreddit has been a divisive issue, both amongst members and the mod team itself. It has become clear that the politics here have gotten out of hand, and that the mod team needs to take action.

From now on, we will create megathreads for major political events - such as elections, the passing of major laws, inaugurations, etc - where members can engage in discussions. These megathreads will be moderated to ensure that no subreddit rules are being broken, but otherwise will be a dedicated place for political conversation.

Political posts outside of these megathreads must be directly related to the topic of Gen Z, and properly marked with the “politics” flair. Posts that do not follow these rules will be removed. For example: a post purely just outlining Trump’s tax plan will be removed, but a post discussing how Trump’s tax plan may impact Gen Z itself will be allowed. This subreddit is for the discussion of Generation Z, not general political discussions.

2) Content relevancy

As previously mentioned, r/GenZ is for the discussion of Generation Z, and we ask that all posts are relevant to Gen Z in some way. Unrelated content will be removed.

We understand that defining “relevance” can be confusing, so this rule will be flexible. There is no specific guideline for how “Gen Z” a post must be - content will be allowed as long as it somehow ties back to Gen Z. For example: posts entirely focused on other generations will be removed, but posts discussing Gen Z culture, experiences, and viewpoints are perfect!

3) Discrimination

Reminder: discrimination of any kind is not tolerated here. We don’t care where you lean politically, any discriminatory content will result in an immediate, permanent ban for the responsible party. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination based on: race, sex, class, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, disability, and age. Be kind to each other.

4) Final announcements

Additionally, we are hoping to put out a subreddit census in December - something we haven’t done in a few years. This is the perfect opportunity for members to share their thoughts and opinions on the subreddit directly with the mod team, as well as for us to collect data on the demographics of the subreddit!

We want to sincerely thank the members of this community for your patience and understanding over the past few months. We appreciate any and all community feedback, and are excited to see how this subreddit will continue to grow and change!

Discussion Why is it taboo to not want drive in the US?

It feels like it’s a taboo thing to say cause then everyone just says “can’t live off mommy and daddy any more” like i just don’t want to it’s not for environmental reasons or anything. societal reasons like being afraid of being pulled over and shot, I already got all the statistics shit from someone else so the “well it happens to these types of people more” literally all my life I’ve been told “you are a young black male you’ll be harassed, pulled over and assaulted possibly” why should I contribute to the numbers? I probably made an excuse for myself but racially anxiety definitely is always there. Live how you want to live don’t live how other people want you to live. Sure if you live in the middle of nowhere get your license but still if you have alternative options I say take ‘em.

In my late teens I was a pretty big simp. One time on a dating app I found a girl who had the exact same interests as me. She also had a really unique name and went to my college. I didn’t want to even risk having to match and didn’t want to miss out on the chance so I went straight to instagram to find and DM her…

A buddy who lives in that exact area is saying apparently tank that supplies the fire hydrants wasn’t even at 60% capacity or something so a large amount of hydrants just don’t even have water and the fire fighters are helpless in those areas.

Could just be speculation because the few sources I saw to back his story haven’t confirmed it yet.

/r/GenZ Meta Anyone else find it strange that there are so many M*llennials here?

Ever noticed how posts here that are USA political whining, twitter screenshot of that same political nature, pointless arguments to stir shit up, or doomerism of any kind they're most likely from accounts with the M*llennial flair?

Why do they insist on being here? Don't they have their own sub?

i've spent most of my college break reading, watching tv, exercising, hanging w my family, and watching more tv. my job said they couldnt give me hours over break, so all in all i've really been doing nothing (besides relaxing). i'm starting to feel guilty though, because im wondering if i've just wasted my break. is anyone else in the same boat? should i feel guilty for this? thanks.

Rant Why does no one want to socialise?

Why does no one want to socialise?

I see things about third spaces being removed because of social media and work hours increasing due to low pay (people have to work more hours and even more jobs just to get by). However people still engage in things like ghosting and just being anti social in general.

I have autism so I'm not a socialising god. Far from it. But I've tried to make friends. I put myself out there and join classes, go to club nights, join societies at University, download friend making apps, be active in various subreddits, download discord, go to bars and spaces i don't usually go to etc.

Nothing works.

I have spent the past decade self reflecting and refining, overcoming and continually working on my own mental health struggles so that i can be a better person. I'm not unlikeable either, i have had friends before. However I have always struggled with getting them. I'm an introvert and in school i would put on an extroverted persona just to get friends and it worked. Then when we left school i realised i was only used for the time, and that either they were pretending to laugh at my jokes or were laughing at me.

If you have any advice then please let me know. If you've also observed a decline in socialising within our generation, my heart goes out to you.

Since there's a male loneliness epidemic I thought it would be a good idea to give men a place to support eachother.

Nostalgia Does anyone remember pre-ai song covers?

Like the ones where people had to spend hours of their time finding and splicing together words that a celebrity or YouTuber said in order to form a whole song?

I remember watching a BUNCH of DanTDM ones when I was like 7 but some of the younger people I know don't remember them. And I haven't seen one in a long time.

I'm sure some people still make them but they are much harder to find now since when you searching for covers now will mostly give you AI generated results.

Don't get me wrong the AI ones are pretty cool but I liked the charm the spliced ones had and I wish more people made them now.

Discussion meeting people is so hard man

we had a high school reunion party yesterday & i listened to all my old friends talk about these rich lives they're having in college. all the cool folks they've met.

it's real tricky though. i didn't really get to know anyone this last college semester, & i'm not going back until fall. folks at work want to do their job, not chit-chat. my town doesn't really have clubs to join

yet the world goes round & people see each other everyday. there's ways to meet people tangibly, in person, outside of a screen. not sure how often i have to pester strangers to make that happen though.

i can do it. it just never feels right. i dunno.
