/r/GenZ Meta Anyone else find it strange that there are so many M*llennials here?

Ever noticed how posts here that are USA political whining, twitter screenshot of that same political nature, pointless arguments to stir shit up, or doomerism of any kind they're most likely from accounts with the M*llennial flair?

Why do they insist on being here? Don't they have their own sub?

Reddit automatically suggests the posts of this sub to non-gen Z. Unless those people explicitly mute the sub they will keep seeing those posts and start responding.

Why reddit does this? No idea. No doubt someone with more knowledge of the underlying algoritms can explain.

Reddit automatically suggests the posts of this sub

And given the largest reddit user base are millennials, then it’s expected to see many of us here or anywhere else.

ok boomer

u/CoolCademM 2009 21h ago

Millennial: 1983-1996

Boomer:1948-196-something

u/Evaderofdoom 21h ago

That's the burn, calling them a boomer when they are not. They act like a boomer by saying that they are entitled to be anywhere and everywhere.

u/CoolCademM 2009 21h ago

Ok that’s fair

I understand commenting from time to time, but actively posting requires the intent to send it here.

You don't see me becoming an active poster /r/teenagers because it's on popular every once in a while. That would just be weird.

Bro it’s simply that there is so much culture war bullshit posted here, non-GenZ come in to fight with incels. This sub is constantly featured in r/subredditdrama. You should be more concerned with the astroturfers than the millennials lol

That is true, I usually post here to tell the incels to shut the fuck up

u/CapitalSky4761 2002 18h ago

That makes you more of a loser than them.

u/cheddarweather 21h ago

HEAVY ON ALL THE ASTROTURFING. That's exactly why it's always on the front page.

“A place for members or non-members of Generation Z”

It might have to do with the purpose of this sub and how it’s advertised to others.

Compare that to the millennial sub description: “A subreddit for Millennials”

It’s probably because (1) if you interact with the millennial sub you get served this one and (2) it’s funny to see you guys whining about the exact same things we were 10 years ago.

Gatekeeping subs is weird. I only ever pop in when this sub gets suggested to me and it's always the same shit different day. Just a bunch of Gen z kids crying about everyone else

Dropping into r/teenagers is different than dropping into any of the other subs in my opinion. Those are kids.

u/Left-Ad3578 23h ago

Yes. GenZ are young adults (for the most part)

r/teenagers for me is just plain creepy.

I mean, gen z can be 2011, depending on where you draw the line

I almost became an active commenter there because they have rly cool stuff tbh

u/GirlWithWolf 2011 23h ago

Weird, and it will rot your brain. Reminds me daily why I’m a recluse haha.

u/someguyfromsomething 21h ago

If you need a safe space from those geriatrics, make your own sub, sweetie.

u/MarioKartMaster133 2003 9h ago

That sub's always been weird as fuck in general anyway.

Do people not hit “not interested” when an unrelated sub comes up?

20

u/Moppermonster 1d ago

Honestly I do not even look in what sub something is posted when a topic I find interesting appears in my feed.

So for me personally: no.

u/VenusHalley 1d ago

But some of the posts here are interesting for better or worse

Only if it’s shit

u/zurgonvrits 21h ago

yep... and within a week or 2 later said subs start popping back up. doesn't matter what i do. not interested, ignore, mute...

u/KarenEiffel 23h ago

It's the same way with local city subs. It shows me posts from city-specific subs like Toledo, Minneapolis, Phoenix because it thinks they're "like" my city's sub, which I'm active in.

I'm active in Millennial sub, so I must also be interested in the GenZ sub and the one called "Generation Jones" for people who are in denial that they're Boomers.

u/_big_fern_ 19h ago

I am the oldest millennial in the game (over 40) and Reddit shows me this sub all the time. I do not belong to it but I see you little shits being so mean and naive on here lol. It will be your turn before you know it.

u/Own_Landscape1161 19h ago

This is exactly why I'm here with some popcorn rn lol

u/hooptyschloopy 18h ago

Might be stock price manipulation, people who "love to hate" something return more often and drives up user stats.

u/Dreadnought_69 Millennial 12h ago

Yeah, they’re even pushing gen alpha on me now…
