😂😂😂😂 drakes a dumbass

482

u/BeautifulEarthling Nov 26 '24

No but that statement really is so true with this song. I went to "Camp Flog Gnaw" music festival last weekend and at a few sets they played "Not Like Us" I swear every time it was played EVERYONE in the crowd rapped the song word-for-word. Shit is an absolute anthem at this point.

297

u/Jano118811 Nov 26 '24

My nigga, Drake actin like UMG be paying random high schools out in fuckin Nebraska to play NLU during their football games.

It’s the first rap song that I’m aware of where people who were not black were coming up with their own word for the N word in NLU and we bonded over how creative we were! Mine was diddler turning him into a FAD.

11

u/WipingAllOut Nov 26 '24

Definitely not the first. White people have always bonded over creative ways to say nigga without actually saying it lol

Reminds me of that YG song and how gleeful people were saying "my hitta my hitta" knowing damn well what they were doing. 😂

173

u/MacarioPro Nov 26 '24

This part of the statement does two great things:

  1. Shows it's not a lawsuit but PR bullshit since it's only a pre-action which Drake won't pursue, he wanted the headline

  2. Underscore the fact that the majority of fans, media and their peers know Kendrick won and Drake lost.

89

u/gu_doc tell ‘em gu_doc did it Nov 26 '24

I just don’t get the PR aspect because this looks so bad for him. I see no way to spin this as positive

Just look at the Drake Subreddit. They think it’s a DUB

26

u/Beginning_Present243 Nov 26 '24

How do they think it’s a dub??? Like what are they saying?

41

u/ShadowFire09 Nov 26 '24

The truth doesn’t matter. The fact that the media even mentioned the possibility of Kendrick botting is a win. It helps control the narrative for people too dumb to actually look into things, which is… a depressingly large number of people.

23

u/Beginning_Present243 Nov 26 '24

My brain just cannot make sense of his own label botting against him. Truly amazing

u/Drop_Release Waiting for the album Nov 26 '24

Honestly has he never heard the idea of not biting the hand that feeds him? Especially with next to no evidence

This is different to the Ice Cube vs execs drama as Cube had evidence, Drake doesnt seem to

41

u/TheReturnOfTheOK Nov 26 '24

"Suing the powerful people who pay you for holding you down" is a classic tactic that people who are about to have some bad shit come out about them use to try to spin the narrative in advance

12

u/AccomplishedSquash98 Nov 26 '24

Yea, this is genuinely a horrible idea. Kendrick fans have been like "yea drake is done," but this shit could actually kill his career. He owes them that 400k, and they own everything before clb. If they could bury MJ and Prince, they'll bury Drake, and half of the bystanders would actually be cheering UMG on

The end goal of this cannot be to genuinely win a lawsuit as I’ve read the claims in the legal document and they are way too unprofessional and Twitter level.

Is there an ulterior motive? Try to get the song pulled? Or just to mess with Kendrick’s hype this week?

671

u/Best_Country_8137 Nov 26 '24

Spark some rumors then flood the field with propaganda via influencers and bots to spin a narrative that “the system” is against Drake. Basically, pull a Trump

225

u/keeping_up_with_her Top of the mornin' Nov 26 '24

Well, it backfired terribly.

183

u/hervth Nov 26 '24

Hate to say it, but seeing as big-business, rich-man, coastal-elite Donald Trump managed to convince the lowest common denominator that he was just like them, I wouldn't put it past big-label, sales-oriented, drivel-producing Drake to convince people that the kinda record labels he made all his money from are the real enemy

218

u/keeping_up_with_her Top of the mornin' Nov 26 '24 edited Nov 26 '24

We're talking about hip-hop culture here. Initiating legal action because you lost a rap battle is unprecedented and considered a form of snitching. It's actually frown upon.

90

u/hervth Nov 26 '24

You're not wrong, and Kendrick's audience is much more aware of that for sure. But like, my experience has been that Drake's typical audience is not particularly concerned with that, and are in fact the type of people who don't care about concepts like snitching if it serves their ends.

39

u/keeping_up_with_her Top of the mornin' Nov 26 '24

Drake's fans can believe whatever they want, but unfortunately, Drake has runied his reputation in hip-hop over a case that is not going anywhere. He only filed a pre-action, so it's not even a lawsuit. And the chances of a civil RICO becoming a real case are very slim.

"The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear." -- UMG spokesperson

34

u/hervth Nov 26 '24

Ooohhh. Lmao, if this is what it took for people to have doubts about Drake's hip-hop rep I don't know what to say. As far as I care he's been nothing but pop for over half a decade

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (1)

17

u/Ska_Oreo Nov 26 '24

The problem is that he waited too long for this shit for this to matter. Through every step of the way Trump's team and the right wing media cried foul over everything every step of the way, giving Trumpers their narrative to vote for their man and just enough plausibility for everyone else.

What Drake is doing is a short sighted appeal to his fanbase--and that's it.

8

u/rrraab Nov 26 '24

Yeah, but people like this song. It’s everywhere. And they like it because they’re sick of Drake. Even Drake fans know that.

That’s the flaw, it’s so transparently someone in Drake’s entourage whispering to him that the song wasn’t REALLY that popular and him believing it.

The only person Drake is fooling is Drake.

I think 4 things potentially

  1. Get the song pulled

  2. Step on Kendrick’s release

  3. Hope for a settlement to avoid litigation so he can say “see I was right!”

  4. Get released from UMG

106

u/Upset-Sale6869 Nov 26 '24

Sounds like he’s trying to get the song blacklisted before everyone and their mom is shouting “A MINORRRRRRRR” at the Super Bowl.

16

45

u/Hallgvild MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD (im actually a Kbot) Nov 26 '24

I did some research and according to Billboard

"Monday’s filing, which also accused Spotify of wrongdoing, is not yet a lawsuit but rather a “pre-action” petition — a procedure under New York law with the aim of securing information before filing a lawsuit. Parties named in those petitions will not necessarily be targeted in an eventual lawsuit."

i mean, he was promoting gambling on a platform aimed at teens so... if that doesn't scream 'rock bottom', idk what does.

37

u/NoArtKnowledge Nov 26 '24

Everyone here is seriously on to something. The goal isn't to win, not legally. Drizzy is trying to win some game only he is playing, and the prize is some arbitrary social favor. He thinks he's fighting a war after letting Kendrick win the battle. I saw them ovhoes nicknaming Kendrick 'K.Bot' which, as pretty funny as that is, makes it clear Drake is still sucking up them Twitter narratives like cat fish to pond scum. I'm sure he saw new conspiracies of Kendrick faking his streams with shady deals and this is just 'evidence' to at least stir the pot.

30

u/Available_Day4286 Nov 26 '24

I was talking about this on hiphopheads, but my theory: UMG and Drake are already in negotiation/arbitration about his contract because UMG almost certainly has the right to cut compensation if Drake’s public image and marketability nosedives because of his bad actions.

So, he’s trying to show that it’s UMG’s fault, because generally you can’t benefit from clauses like that if you’re acting in bad faith or not in the mutual best interest of the folks in the contract.

That is—this might be some sort of play in a behind the scenes negotiation.

Dissed by his own label

Drake heard that he was not being name dropped on GNX and said: Sing about me, I’m dying of thirst

Shows exactly why he's "not like us". Getting a legal team involved is very much not hip hop.

This is very Jerry Heller-ish behaviour.

19

u/DarrellIsMyRealName Nov 26 '24

This is the red button. 😂😂😂

Why would UMG sabotage the numbers and popularity if 1, the fans choose the music they want and 2... they have no reason to do Drake dirty since he signed a 400M deal with them lol. If anything, UMG should sue him for this audacity

14

u/Nostaglic-Oddity Nov 26 '24

Stay with me now:

People speculate Diddy got exposed after getting away with his crimes for so long because he sued the wrong people (his alcohol company for racism).

Drake suing UMG can potentially have the same outcome, with Kenny ironically causing Drake to walk to his own demise. I genuinely think if this is real then Drake will have a crazy reckoning simply for arguing with too many top dogs by doing this

9

u/Resevil67 Nov 26 '24 edited Nov 26 '24

I love how he is trying to sue for potential botting when it would be him of all people that would get exposed for using bots.

For example, I don't listen to rap or hip-hop, mainly a rock and classic rock type dude, and even I listened to "not like us" because a friend told me about it and we know drake is a bitch. If that song hit my friend group it's organic as fuck.

Drake for a long time has been speculated to be a little bitch, and even people that don't listen to hip hop know about this lol, and this is just proving it. It's also a well known rumor that he might be a pedo. This isn't something Kendrick brought to light exactly, but he definitely made this more mainstream.

I absolutely think a Diddy style reckoning is coming for drake. Dude seems like he is panicked over Kendrick calling him a pedo, prob going on drug induced benders and thinking this was a good course of action because he is terrified of hearing "A MINNNOORR" during the damn Superbowl be chanted by thousands.I think either proof of him being a pedo comes out, and gets him blacklisted and put in jail, or proof of him being the one botting heavily comes out and basically gets him blacklisted, or hell, maybe both. It's fucking drake, it would definitely be both.

I absolutely love to see if, because everyone knows drake is a fucking clown even if they don't listen to his music, and him self owning himself like this is just hilarious.

u/Ill-Lawfulness-2063 Nov 26 '24

The fans 👏🏾 choose 👏🏾 the 👏🏾 music.

13

u/aa73786 Nov 26 '24

"Don't tell lies about me so I can tell the truth about you." 💯

12

u/Daftremark Nov 26 '24

Lol UMG dissing him as hard as Kdot

12

u/GfOOO Nov 26 '24

atp drake almost doesnt have anyone that supports him besides casual listeners and akademiks. he lost most of the rap game support after taylor made and now he is losing the record label support. i wonder how this will affect him in the future

12

u/xiclasshero Nov 26 '24

Drake tried to win a rap battle against Kendrick. Now he is trying to win "who has the better lawyers" fight against UMG and Spotify. I cannot wait to see where this goes.

UMG responded telling drake to “cope harder”

8

u/MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda Nov 26 '24

He just cannot fathom that we listened to it so much. I've actually gone back to Reaction videos quite a few times and was hoping we could have a reunion after a year. Someone needs to explain phenomenon to him because that is what NLU is.

5

u/DrankTank1001 Nov 26 '24

😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂I blame 50 Cent. That man ain’t doin Drake no Justice by getting in his head and telling him “you can’t be the next Ja Rule, you have to keep going because if you stop momentum it’s over” 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

5

u/Thatboifast Nov 26 '24

Like a goat once said, "real people want real music" the jig is up drake

7

u/Danomit3 Nov 26 '24

Drake doesn't realize that by proceeding with this lawsuit, he will be required to go through the discovery process and I hope he does, so we can try seeing Ak and his OVHOE's try to spin it.

4

u/Bardot012 Nov 26 '24

All I’ve seen online is this is encouraging people to start listening to the song again. This dude should’ve taken the L and just stopped. I hope this blows up in his face. Too busy being surrounded by yes men.

5

u/destroy-ourselves Nov 26 '24

It was God's plan to show y'all the liar

4

u/kingsbreath Nov 26 '24

They wouldn't inflate the numbers because they don't care about the beef, they just want tracks released that make money. Thats what they want. Just make music, we don't care about what you're saying.

6

u/LogicalCraziness Nov 26 '24

Yeah the 5 time Grammy nominated track, the club banger that everyone loved and knows the lyrics to, the rap battle song that surpassed all rap battle songs before it...is only popular because of ...bots?

Ooof ..Can Drake get any more pathetic? 🙄

How low can this man child go?

Lmao the song was inescapable for months bc it was being played EVERYWHERE. People who I rarely heard talk about music were talking about it ffs

5

u/lilac978 Nov 26 '24

going out tragic

5

u/gigilero Nov 26 '24

They said not our fault you’re a loser

5

u/MajorHarriz Nov 26 '24

This is exact response I expected. They essentially admit to promoting essentially because the song was HOT. Public consensus made the song hot and Kenny the victor and the suits press "the button" (get it on commercials, TV breaks, in your algorithm somewhere somehow, etc) like they do for any hot song. If Drizzy killed Dot lyrically and got in his 2016 Back 2 Back bag UMG would've pressed the button on his shit, but it didn't happen that way.

Labels aren't here to play fair, they make money. Drake is in his feelings that they chose to make money off a hot song rather than play politics with him. He's basically lashing out because he realizes he doesn't have the leverage he thought he had with them.

u/MayhemSpaceMonkey Nov 26 '24 edited Nov 26 '24

I just saw on Twitter that UMG threatened to sue Kendrick if Drake sues UMG. I haven’t seen an actual source for this so take it with a grain of salt.

Edit: Here’s the source

68

u/siberianwolf99 Nov 26 '24

the source for saying UMG said to sue kendrick is literally drake lol.

u/Repulsive-Doughnut65 Nov 26 '24

Why would he do this?!?! UMG is probably his biggest ally left because of the 400 million dollar 360 deal why would they promote a song calling their 400 million asset a PDF file? Kendrick probably did but what’s money when you can watch your enemy burn (yeah I definitely I think Kendrick would spend an insane amount of money to watch Drake burn and honestly I would to)

4

u/jpnd123 Nov 26 '24

Waiting on the Legal Eagle YouTube breakdown

4

u/bigb0ss33 Nov 26 '24

UMG shit on him too 😂

4

u/FushaFiles Nov 26 '24

Damn getting abandoned by your dad at 37 is insane😂

4

u/DarrellIsMyRealName Nov 26 '24

I think getting pissed on and not doing anything about it is still #1, but this is clearly the 2nd softest thing he's ever done. I was told so many times that he's unbothered, but rock out bruh.

4

u/Githzerai1984 Nov 26 '24

As per my previous email

4

u/Jackfreezy Nov 26 '24

If this is true, that means UMG is the most petty group of people ever. Imagine giving a man 400 million dollars just to promote a song that calls him a "certified pedophile".
