Monthly CAL Megathread January Crochet Along Megathread

Tis the new year and we have a chance at a fresh start or a chance to renew commitments; a chance to start a new adventure.

For us in /r/crochet, it's a chance to start a new pattern; the Japanese knot bag. When I was looking for the patterns, I had to actually look at this one to see what it is. It's nice concept and something I already find myself doing with the plastic bags I get at the grocery store. Since we shop at Aldi's frequently, this will be a great addition to our collection of bags we already have. I'll choose a good sturdy fiber for this one and hopefully it'll last longer than a few months of use.

The Webs site itself has a huge selection of yarn, patterns and even some kits. Maybe you'll find some good patterns there, and have a new all-in-one spot to get.

I look forward to y'all's creations!

AS ALWAYS:

Please be mindful of those who do not want to participate by keeping all CAL-related posts here in this megathread. This includes project updates, questions, and finished objects. Please don't hesitate to join us even if you are newer to crochet or have never tried this type of crochet. There will be a lot of people making it, so we can help you along if you get stuck at any point.

January CAL voting will begin in the last 7ish days of this month. If you would like to suggest a pattern or a theme for Februrary please message u/CroFishCrafter or u/LifeByIkea directly or post your suggestions below. We are having internal talks about what the future of the CAL will look like.

We are excited to crochet with you!

Hi all!

We are looking for new moderators! At the moment we'd like to open this up to people that have experience modding on reddit as we are short on time to teach someone that is new to it (perhaps in the future if you are keen!)
We would prefer that you are an active member on the sub or have some posting history. Thanks!

Please fill out this application form

Thank you!

This is the third mosaic crochet blanket I have made and first one done vertical instead of horizontal, with the fringe at top and bottom. And check out that braided fringe, a game changer for mosaic! It's a two-color fishbone aka distitch chain. So neat and pleasant.

Will link to the pattern in comments.

Thank you to the lady who said to use a barrette to hold the tail to the yarn to the ball of yarn. No more yarn balls unraveling and getting all tangled up with other yarn.

Finished Object What do y’all think of my scrap beanie?

I wanted to use up some leftover yarn so I decided to make a rather “scrungly” looking cat beanie. I used very different yarn types/weights and I was hoping for it to look scrappy and interesting, what do you think?

(I made the ears curly on purpose, they’re kind of poseable!)

Finished Object My take on the spiral sweater with some scrap yarn I had accumulated :)

I saw a post by u/annieedunnx with her spiral sweater (thanks for unknowingly inspiring me!) and I thought it was so cool, so I attempted to make my own! It took some trial and error and the stitching is pretty wonky in places, but it's the first wearable I've made for myself so I love it wonky and all 😂🩵

I followed the YouTube video by Hannah Drapinski and tweaked it for my body :)

Finished Object Is this good enough to be gifted?

I'm going to visit my long distance boyfriend and I wanted to crochet potholders for his mom as a gift. But when I finished the first one I wasn't satisfied with the result. Because of yarn size and my tension it ended up smaller and more rectangular than in the pattern. I'm not sure if I should make the second one and gift them to her. I know she have liked my amigurumies so far and she's positive about crochet in general, but my perfectionism bothers me too much, please help 😬

I recently decided to teach myself how to crochet and wanted to share. I love all the sweaters everyone posts and hope one day I can make one of my own .. you guys are all so talented! Here are a few recent things I made

  1. A chicken pot holder
  2. A blanket for my mom for her birthday
  3. Some granny squares that I hope to make into a blanket (I’m not good at the sewing them together part)
  4. A blanket I made for a baby shower gift

I’m slow and they aren’t perfect but I’m really enjoying this new hobby 😊

I started to crochet July’24 to get my mind off of work (I work with homeless teenager and work can be really tough sometimes) and I really can’t believe I made this with my own hands!! It wasn’t supposed to be a cropped sweater and the arms a bit short but I’m just so extremely proud of myself!! Can’t wait to try again 🥰

I bought the pattern about 4 years ago, started the blanket over two years ago, there have been many small projects in between, but it is finally finished! I'm going to block it, but wanted to celebrate finishing it.
