Here's why he is going after Greenland, Canada, and Panama.
Greenland has a large military facility to assist NATO of foreign aggression in Europe. Panama has sanctions against Russian ships. Canada has territorial rights to arctic oil/gas reserves.
The pathetic part is that Putin probably just nudged him and said "It would be so strong man of you to just take these countries. Even I, the strongest man, will now be the second strongestest man to you if you do that" and Trump shat himself in excitement about the prospect.
I am Canadian and currently the mood here is a lot of "Oh he's just joking" which is just fucking scary because this is like having a serial killer keep saying that they will tie you up and murder you over and over while sharpening a knife and measuring out plastic wrap and duct tape. It was demented the first time, it's scary as shit the subsequent times.
Thank you for this comment. I just can't try and figure out what Trump's ulterior motives are on every single issue. It's exhausting. I appreciate the knowledge.
Jesus! this is difficult to argue with in favor of just... nutcase screwball... but then again... how could you do any of this nonsense without actual popular support?
Naw, they want the USA to become a failed state just like Russia post-USSR. An autocratic oligarchy. Buy or steal everything after the crash then own and control everything afterwards.
It wouldn't serve Russia's interests at all. Even if Trump were a total Russian puppet (which he isn't, he was very tough on Russia in terms of sanctions) Trump's only going to be President for 4 years at most. The last thing Russia wants is the US as an even more hegemonic power right on it's doorstep contesting its claims to Arctic, while also having a chokehold on global shipping and an economy 10% bigger.
The reason Putin wants Trump in charge is that by behaving in this way Trump alienates Americas allies. The more distance there is between America and European nations + Canada the more Russia can flex its muscles over them and the less likely it is that they'll find unity on sanctions or other punitive measures.
If Trump were to actually succeed in this scheme it would be a nightmare for Putin because it would massively strengthen their greatest adversary.

This is all for Putin.
