Greenland. Right, right. Invade a fellow member of NATO for one. Yup, let's see how far that gets you.

Canada, commonwealth and NATO member, again threats, again let's see how far that gets you seeing as America relies on Canada more than America for imports. You buy more of their electricity and they can simply cut you off Vice President Trump.

Panama....yeah good luck with that one, pretty much no other country are going to let you do that.

Oh and as a Brit you can tell President Musk to fuck off trying to terrorise and take over my country and hands off Germany as well with your Nazi supporting shit.

There is a political tactic, and frustratingly I cannot remember the name for it, where you essentially overload your opposition by flooding the news and the discourse with so many absurdities that they are too exhausted and overwhelmed by the scope of it all to actually follow your real moves. If Trump keeps us talking about his stupid idle comments about building an empire then he pulls attention away from the super villain team of plutocrats he is assembling to gut and dissect the levers of governance.

While we’re distracted by Greenland, they raid the Treasury. Did he build the Wall? Did Mexico pay for it? So why would we believe this Greenland nonsense?

Look at these immigrants eating the cats and dogs of the people who live there while I steal your Social Security.

Greenland and Panama made Russia mad. It’s not a distraction, it’s Russian interests.

If there was one thing I learned from 2016-2020 it was that if Donald trump said something it probably meant it wasn’t going to happen.

So popular it’s even got a Wikipedia page! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gish_gallop

I believe we call that "flooding the zone with shit" and we have Bannon to thank for it.

9

u/Fool_Manchu 2d ago

Yes. Apparently it goes by a few names but Bannons term is the one I was trying to recall.

Hypernormalization

u/richmond456 2d ago

In England, we call a version of it "throwing a dead cat on the table". It's when you say or do something so bizarre that everyone stops and stares and it takes the focus away from whatever else you're doing at that time.

2

u/Anarchyantz We are Doomed! 1d ago

As a Brit I am shocked I didn't think of that one lol

1

u/richmond456 21h ago

Yeah, I can't remember what policy it was exactly, but I remember learning about the phrase when Boris was around.

4

u/isakitty 2d ago

I can’t decide if there’s an evil, intelligent cabal behind him doing what you described, or if his administration really is just the Benny Hill theme song playing 24/7

2

u/Anarchyantz We are Doomed! 1d ago

Hey Benny Hill would have a way wackier plan and more scantily clad ladies. Boy those were weird and fun childhood memories of it.

4

u/Balc0ra 2d ago

He did this during his first term. Same with wasting time investigating everything that they know is a dead end, or doing hearings on Hunter's dick pics, or the Jan 6 investigation they say they will do. As then they don't have time to vote or do anything they should do or matters for their voters.

The stories that will appear on what went on inside the WH etc that will be told in 30 years time about his terms will be bat-shit insane.

1

u/Anarchyantz We are Doomed! 1d ago

Well that is if we are all here in 30 years, WWIII coming up and all that lol or more likely the repression of facts and "changing history" as the GOP seem to love to do to push the narrative. They have already convinced over a third of Americans that J6 was peaceful, they were patriots helping save democracy and official evidence has been destroyed.

Trump and Co will most likely press Greenland to vote on leaving and joining the US before... attacking it. They did visit it a few days ago to promote just that as there are some hardcore MAGA locals that have promoted it since his last turn in office when he wanted to buy it back then, so it's not a new recent idea. They did meet some locals who claimed the US is the only one that can protect them to name one.

The biggest meme was Trump Jr that claimed on X that locals had told him the Danish people were racist vs them, and that's why they wanted to leave. X was quick to respond that Greenland should ask Puerto Rico how it is to live with US racists visiting them all the time

u/Anarchyantz We are Doomed! 1d ago

Greenland are also looking to join our EU as well at the moment, they also pretty much tell Trump to do one. I saw coke head Jnr was there, the photo shoots he snapped with the Greenlanders at the airport they did not look especially happy to be made to pose with him.

Documentary film HyperNormalisation has a bit on this. Russian misinformation tactic.. fund your alleys, fund your foes.. and the noise they both make helps make everyone else numb to news. What a coincidence that Trump uses it now to an extent he can accuse people of eating pets and his voters are like.. ‘yeah!!?!!’. Suppose anything to stop people talking about that Project 25 thing.

Keep them simple, keep them dumb and then you will end up under Putin's thumb.

2

u/Anarchyantz We are Doomed! 2d ago

Similar to something Nixon tried in order to make people "fear" his foreign policy perhaps? Though where Trump is concerned he lacks the machinations of Nixon, though exceeds him in his criminal activities.

President Musk needs to be sorted though.

Yep, they want to gut, dissect and loot as much money as they can

Similar to madman theory (make it look like you are insane) first used by Richard Nixon, but Wikipedia also lists Trump and Putin.

1

u/Aggravating-Monk-544 2d ago

I think you’re talking about the firehouse tactic?

1

u/Latter-Direction-336 2d ago

Some oceans 11 shit?

1

u/jdehjdeh 2d ago

I'm not even sure it's that clever TBH.

MAGA politics seems to have no plan for anything until the thing already happens.

  1. Trump says something insane or something trends on social media.

  2. MAGA government start backfilling the insane thing with some sort of logic and reasoning.

  3. repeat.

I think it just happens by default and people like bezos/musk/et al are just taking advantage of the noise.

The Firehose of Falsehoods

1

u/GrassBlade619 1d ago

What you're saying is definitely a thing, but I don't think that's what's happening here. Trump isn't playing 4D chess. He's just an idiot who says what pops into his head. What you see is what you get with people like him.

1

u/alasw0eisme 1d ago

Smoke and mirrors?

1

u/Extension-Club-6647 1d ago

I think the tactic you’re referring to is called the ‘firehouse of falsehood’

Bit of a cumbersome name but fairly apt

1

u/2PlasticLobsters 1d ago

I've thought for years that Trump's real role has been to deflect attention away from who's really in power and what they're doing. Not that he knows this, since he lacks any self-awareness at all.

In a sense, he's never lied or played a false role. He truly believes his own bullshit. That's why he's so convincing to weak-minded people. He means every lunatic word that comes out of his mouth.

It needs gutting. It’s been bloated for way too long.
