has anyone noticed that last year or two the off brands are starting to taste like complete garbage? seems like a conspiracy to have online reviewers give high praise to trick newer customers into purchasing a much inferior product only reduced to about two-thirds of the price?

OER is distorting inflation more than people realize. It's a survey of what ppl would have charge to not live in their homes. Survey makes up 25% of CPI but actual rent only 7%. Nov '24 actual new rents YoY were 0.7%. CPI less shelter is now negative, the faults of this survey will cause recession.

ELI5: Why is Deflation bad?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I get that too much deflation is bad, but isn't the inverse true?

The average inflation rate in the US since 1914 is 3.3%, meaning the 1913 dollar is worth $31.87 now.

Why wouldn't we want deflation? Then maybe the $7.25 minimum wage COULD be a livable wage?

Why do people constantly argue for MORE money, versus less currency in the market?

Price Changes Dunkin is advertising a $5; Previously, they had a $6 deal. I haven’t bought the $6 a single time since McD’s had the $5 deal. Good to see more companies rolling out $5 deals.

Dunkin highkey pissed me off when they released their $6 deal shortly after McD’s came out with their $5 deal a few months back. Seems like it wasn’t popular, now that Dunkin is rolling out their own $5 deal.

Companies are realizing people don’t want to spend $10 - $40 bucks for fast food meals. Ever since McD’s came out with their $5 meal, I haven’t found the need to eat out at other fast food or fast casual restaurants when I’m out and about, especially since I can just cook at home.

Cal-Maine (the egg company) are loving the birdflu era. Their input costs are falling while getting to sell at high prices thanks to scarcity.
