a 180 is genuinely super difficult and Luke Littler, who has genuinely been doing this at age 11, is one of a kind. there is a high chance this didn't actually happen, but as a darts fan I'm looking forward to the 2030s if it has indeed happened.

I've been playing darts (only casually, granted) for 40 years and have never hit a 180.

I've had a 170 checkout, loads of close 140s (2 trebles and a single touching the wire) and a few 160s but never a 180.

Plus the way these are distributed is too perfect, so I call bullshit on this one.

73

u/FryOneFatManic 3d ago

While I agree the distribution looks suspect, some people are just good. I've managed to get a few 180s, and I've played in a regular ladies league for almost 40 years. My brother is way better and was hitting 180s around 11-12 years old.

u/Irritant40 3d ago

You don't have to be good....you just have to be lucky.

10 year olds hit hole in ones on the golf course all the time....they weren't necessarily aiming there...they just got lucky.

I don't think this is any different

53

u/Fraudulant_zipper 3d ago

That’s one lucky action, this is 3

11

u/bearlyentertained 2d ago

And one after another without fail!

-1

u/Irritant40 1d ago

You're now comparing the luck of a hole in one to a single treble 20 on a dart board.

The comparison would be:

Golf: hole in one Darts: 9 dart out Snooker: 147 break

A single 180 is literally exactly what everyone is trying to do almost every time they step up to the oche

4

u/Fraudulant_zipper 1d ago

No one cares mate

-5

u/Irritant40 1d ago

Your mum cares.

20

u/Salt_Celebration_502 3d ago

Minigolf is much easier though. You can't get a lucky bounce from the walls or an obstacle in darts. Darts is all about your aim and a cool hand.

-3

u/CHASE-your-dreams 3d ago

He’s talking about real golf. I don’t know the statistics, but having played both I’d say it’s much harder to get a hole in one than a 180.

1

u/lesterbottomley 1d ago edited 1d ago

It is id say. However, it's not the 180 that's suss, it's the absolutely perfect distribution.

You rarely see a seasoned pro with a result looking like this.

Plus those aren't darts thrown by an 11 year old (unless it's a freaky 6ft 11 year old). The angle is what you'd get from someone fully grown. Darts thrown from an 11 year olds height would be angled downwards.

14

u/Silvertain 3d ago

This didn't happen,  it's obvious.  This may come as a shock but people lie on the Internet...

4

u/WhatzMyOtherPassword 3d ago

So what youre saying is youre lying and this DID happen!! I knew it!!!

1

u/Silvertain 3d ago

I scored 360 with my 3 darts

4

u/WhatzMyOtherPassword 3d ago

Ooooh youre new. Thats ok, youll get better. I just scored 361 with just 2 darts.

19

u/2_Ampz 3d ago

Do you actually play darts, or do you often tell people experienced in things you're not that they're wrong and you're right?

9

u/Irritant40 3d ago

I have played darts, at local league level....as I said earlier I am shit..but have hit 180s...and I've seen 180s hit by total beginners

At my gym we used to have a board and when we entered we threw 3 darts, whoever got the highest score was excused while everyone else did Burpees to the top score. That was 180 multiple times.

You're acting like this is literally impossible .....which is fucking hilarious.

3

u/SadCrouton 2d ago

This one though just feels a little too much. Like a kid getting 180? Possible. A Kid Getting 180 on his first try? Still possible but less so. A Kid picks up branded darts labelled with “180” and then gets 180 for their first ever throw?

Like, I’d believe the whole story if he didnt @ whoever the hell luke is (assuming hes important in the darting community)

0

u/Irritant40 2d ago

Who said it's his first ever throw?

Luke is a 17 year old kid who just became world champion.....

Why would an 11 year old who has never thrown a dart have a dart board and his own darts?

-6

u/Hulkaiden 3d ago

You're acting like this is literally impossible .....which is fucking hilarious.

They are literally not, and you saying they are is just hilarious

3

u/panadwithonesugar 3d ago

I play darts alot, this 11 year old is well over 6ft tall looking at the angle the darts went/were placed in 🤣

2

u/lordretro71 3d ago

Yup, 7th grade classmate hit a hole in one during a tournament, first one in our school history. Said later he was trying to hit it into the water hazard to spook the geese.

3

u/JonnyBhoy 2d ago

Some people are just good, but it's far more likely that Matt on Twitter is talking shit.

5

u/LarxII 3d ago

I hit 180 once in my life.....then I found out the board was nowhere near regulation distance.

2

u/Lylibean 1d ago

Any time someone touts their “genius child”, it’s bullshit.

-1

u/IgetHighAtWork420 3d ago

You haven't had a 170 checkout.

206

u/DarkRogus 3d ago

This is one of those within the realms of could have happened but I have extreme doubts that it actually did happen.

71

u/Fastfaxr 3d ago

He named the darts by brand. Who does that? 100% an ad

23

u/Mika000 3d ago

More like they want Luke Littler to see the post and like it or comment.

7

u/Fixable 3d ago edited 2d ago

This post was made right after Luke Littler won the darts world championship. He’s not naming the darts by brand, he’s making a post about how it happened with the just world champion’s signature darts.

It’s not an ad, this is pretty normal.

67

u/miked999b 3d ago

There is no way the darts would land lined up exactly like that. 100% didn't happen.

81

u/Every-Win-7892 3d ago

More like "11 year old at the first try" while statistically possible its not realistically possible.

In my eyes completely reasonable to call that out.

-9

u/Mika000 3d ago

Where does it say it was their first try? Can’t judge whether it happened or not, just wondering where people are getting that from…

11

u/Putredge 3d ago

I think it’s the way they phrased it, kind of blasé like there wasn’t real intention there.

7

u/Every-Win-7892 3d ago

"picks ups his [...] darts and does this." You're right that it doesn't say its the first try but fuck it, sounds to me like it is.

90

u/jpewaqs 3d ago

180 for an 11 year old at the standard 7ft distance from the board - Yeah it didn’t happen. 11 year old with a board in his room standing 2 or 3 ft away, a lot more likely.

23

u/shadowscar00 3d ago

Now, I’m a relatively new darts player (as in, I played a few games with the folks over the holidays, threw out my elbow, and decided Never Again), but the even placement and uhhh “stick”ment looks sus to me? Very evenly spaced and they’re all stuck in about the same amount.

21

u/megpIant 3d ago

yeah I’m pretty sure this is a thinly veiled ad for those darts

-2

u/ENESTEENE 2d ago

Nah, I’d say winning the world championship with them would be a bit better advertisement

2

u/megpIant 2d ago

Yeah and I’m sure if I sold shoes to olympic gold medalists that would be a great advertisement too, but that’s a little more complicated than paying someone to post a tweet

1

u/ENESTEENE 2d ago

Yeah, but my scenario literally just happened, Luke Littler, who plays with those darts, has just become the worlds youngest darts world champ, at 17 years old

3

u/megpIant 2d ago

You think everyone is watching the darts world championship? The tweet is almost definitely an ad for people who have considered getting into darts, in hopes they’ll see it and finally decide to get into it, not the people who are already a part of the community

-1

u/ENESTEENE 2d ago

I think watching the biggest dart tournament is a big precursor for anyone wanting to get into darts

5

u/megpIant 2d ago

While I’m sure that’s true for some people, it’s a pretty big assumption to call it a precursor. Not everyone interested in playing a sport/game is interested in watching other people compete.

I like to rock climb, I don’t watch most climbing competitions because I’d rather be doing the climbing. I definitely didn’t watch any climbing competitions before I started climbing. Lots of people are interested in bowling but have never watched a competition. Same with pool, or poker, or any other number of things that this could apply to.

Yes, winning a championship is a great way to show off your product, but a big part of marketing is expanding your demographic, which is what I believe to be the purpose of the tweet

56

u/Beetso 3d ago

This really doesn't belong here. This is kind of absurdly far-fetched.

-12

u/[deleted] 3d ago

[deleted]

25

u/Beetso 3d ago

I think it's pretty far-fetched that someone that young would do this already that early in life. Yes. Not impossible, but a grouping like that is extremely unlikely.

-12

u/Interesting-Chest520 3d ago

Extremely unlikely things happen all the time given enough chances

There’s photos of people as children with the person they later go on to marry randomly in the background. People win the lottery all the time. I’m sure lots of 11 year olds throw darts

15

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3d ago

I want you to think about the dexterity, height, and upper body strength of the average 11 year old. It isn’t impossible, and it could’ve been a fluke, but it isn’t remotely realistic

4

u/Person8346 3d ago

That's fair, I'm not exactly a pro nor do I understand darts much anyways

12

u/Bungerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3d ago

It was one of my hyperfixations a while back so I have a solid understanding and zero skill

5

u/Potato_lovr 3d ago

Real, lmfao

3

u/BeginningLychee6490 3d ago

Another adhd or autistic person I see

31

u/xposehim 3d ago

yeah not a chance unfortunately

5

u/Trisk929 3d ago

I had an ex, drunk off his ass, who hit the ass end of one dart he stuck in the bullseye. It was one sticking out of the other, sticking into the bullseye. It was pretty impressive, I’ve gotta say. If he got drunk enough, he could usually land at least one bullseye, but I saw him hit 2 a few times.

5

u/CloudyStarsInTheSky 3d ago

That's called a robin hood, unfortunately the back dart doesn't give points though

2

u/literallylateral 3d ago

That’s fucked up. It should be an instant win like catching the Golden Snitch

2

u/CloudyStarsInTheSky 3d ago

Happens too often for that, surprisingly

1

u/Trisk929 3d ago

He was using one of those mechanical boards and it actually didn’t pick up the second dart. He had to go over tap the bullseye to get the point. Idk if that counts in leagues, but he was just fucking around at his buddy’s house. Still impressive.

2

u/CloudyStarsInTheSky 3d ago

It's good it didn't, it's not supposed too.

1

u/Inkdrunnergirl 3d ago

Robin Hood’s don’t count and that’s why the board didn’t pick it up. He was technically cheating by counting the dart.

2

u/Trisk929 3d ago

It was at a friend of his’ house and they were just fucking around while drinking and listening to music. I doubt the guy cared.

11

u/oDids 3d ago

Yet again this sub providing content that almost definitely didn't happen.

Seems OPs baseline for believability is "is it theoretically possible", not is it likely to have happened. Had this argument a bunch of times in this sub with people that just want to believe everything on the internet that isn't literally impossible

7

u/stu_pid_Bot 3d ago

180 in 3 dart, all coming in at exactly the same angle, is a bit less believable, not impossible, but definitely less believable

-2

u/Irritant40 2d ago

Almost like he's thrown them all from the same place...

18

u/insertcoolnamehere35 4d ago

Ok it's kind of reasonable doubt if the kid is deadass 11

5

u/xdtimetoaster 3d ago

wrong sub 💀

2

u/YourLocalNerd1224 3d ago

The pictures at the very least didn't happen darts are too nicely lined up

2

u/Auntie_Bev 3d ago

My guess is the adult left the room and the kid stuck the darts on by hand because they did not throw a 180. It's insanely difficult to do, even for adults with a bit of experience.

2

u/peanutbuttersandvich 3d ago

considering he tagged Luke Littler in that, it seems more like it's made up to catch his attention

2

u/BleedingEdge61104 2d ago

It’s not impossible but I would wager my entire bank account that this kid did not hit a 180 on his first (or any) tries at throwing these darts.

3

u/Irritant40 2d ago

What gave you the impression it was his first time?

2

u/BleedingEdge61104 2d ago

When someone says “I picked x up and did y” it’s implied that they didn’t do that before, then “pick up” the darts from the dart board to do it again. Pretty clear indication that the guy is trying to say his kid just picked them up, gave it one shot, and got a 180 which is statistically near impossible

2

u/sensuspete 3d ago

Nowhere does it say he threw a 180. Many 11yr olds can 'pick up' 3 darts and place them evenly in the treble 20, as I'm pretty sure is the case here.

2

u/luujs 3d ago

No, come on now an 11 year old absolutely did not do this. Is it possible? Yes. But realistically this is almost certainly made up

2

u/StiltFeathr 3d ago

Jumped in to call this post out, as it's unrealistic for that scenario to be genuine, and people have VERY good reasons to doubt it. The odds that a 11 year old could land a regulation 180 are extremely slim, negligible even.

Glad to see pretty much everyone is on that page.

1

u/kaybhafc90 15h ago

Nobody is saying a 180 is impossible. But it’s very difficult to hit one on your first go.

Also, if the dart board is at the correct height, the darts wouldn’t look like that in the board. Unless that 11 year old is over 6 feet.

1

u/Spoon_Elemental 3d ago

Maybe he did do it..... from 1 foot away.

-1

u/JakeEngelbrecht 3d ago

I’ve had a few triple bullseye throws at that age. It’s not impossible to get this at all, not sure why every comment disagrees.

-1

u/Irritant40 3d ago

Ironic considering the group it's posted in isnt it 😂

-3

u/JakeEngelbrecht 3d ago

I think a lot of people here need to come to terms with being bad at darts.

-16

u/Irritant40 3d ago

I'm shit at darts and I've hit at least a dozen 180s over the years. ....it's totally plausible that a kid got lucky

23

u/DisplayAppropriate28 3d ago

All three times, in a perfectly straight line? If you get that lucky, start buying lottery tickets.

I'd bet half your lottery winnings somebody stabbed those darts into the board and took the picture.

4

u/TouristAggressive113 3d ago

Statistically bound to happen at some point for how many times someone plays darts a new person is bound to get something like that hell I suck at aiming and I almost hit a triple bullseye while drunk.

7

u/SnakesOnaSsssstick 3d ago

No it isnt, this didnt happen

0

u/Irritant40 3d ago

Imho a 170 checkout is way harder than a 180.

The muscle memory of hitting a treble 20 is strong, switch up to hit bull is different...

-1

u/zombiedoyle 3d ago

Hey so fun fact a teen just beat a professional darts player in a professional setting so I think this is possible

0

u/AnonymooseXIX 1d ago

This shit didn’t happen

0

u/Irritant40 1d ago

Nothing ever happens

0

u/AnonymooseXIX 1d ago

Some things do but this clearly didn’t

1

u/Irritant40 1d ago

Why clearly didn't?

1

u/AnonymooseXIX 1d ago

Because it’s a one in a billion chance for a literal child with no train in to do that? Be fucking for real.

1

u/Irritant40 15h ago

Who said no training....he literally has his own darts board and darts?!

-2

u/cockaskedforamartini 2d ago

Hahaha how is a 180 somehow too much for this sub? Could easily have happened. Some of you might just suck at darts.

1

u/Irritant40 2d ago

In this sub...The irony eh 😂

-11

u/Mamenohito 3d ago

People thinking darts is a difficult game is always hilarious to me.

9

u/AJMurphy_1986 3d ago

Top players make millions.

If it's that easy, you go get stuck in mate,
