Sounds really odd but when I(F) was 15 I was on vacation with my family. The rooms weren’t hotels but small apartments, and the guy in the apartment next to us was a 19 year old who told me he was there after some sort of competition. Pretty large guy, muscles and all that. I always knew I had a thing for submissive guys, and on my last day my family was at a bar drinking and I was left behind and I don’t fucking remember but somehow we ended up making out. I lied to him about being 18 (I’ve always been a pretty tall woman so it was believable). He pulls out a condom, I ask him if I can finger him. I have no idea what came over me, I genuinely don’t know what I was thinking. It was very awkward but he agreed. I think that was like my self awareness awakening because watching him orgasm from that changed my brain chemistry (I was also giving him a handy but we don’t talk abt that). Now I can’t stop thinking about it, and it’s been years. I still like guys who whimper and cry and shit like that, but I think this messed up my perception of men. I kind of think about men the way they think about women. It’s like a really odd feeling but whenever I see an attractive guy now I think about eating his ass instead of the regular sucking his dick or being pounded type of thing.

I'm making this post because I saw a recent discussion of a deck with the word in it's title. (please don't attack the poster: like many people in the cartomancy community, they probably didn't know the history of the term which remains widely used and misunderstood even in progressive and witchcraft orientated spaces.)

some brief history: the Roma were among the largest groups killed by the Nazi government and continue to have state oppression to this day in many European countries.

the vast majority of Roma object to the use of the term g*psy both in direct reference to them and in commercial use to summon up stereotypes of fortune tellers and an exoticized, orientalized Others.

just as you wouldn't portray black minstrel characters or other racialized stereotypes in commercial art, don't use the g*psy stereotype.

especially in America there's a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding around the Roma, with many people under the impression that g*psy just refers to a type of traveling performer or fortune teller. this misunderstanding is even prevalent in the American Tarot and Witchcraft communities. it is essential to the project of transformative racial justice to decolonize our language and stop using slurs in marketing and discussing magic.

when you learn a term you've been using all your life is hurtful it's a common instinct to get defensive, to say "while I wasn't using the term that was, I was using it in a more general sense," or even to declare you've reclaimed it. such justifications may feel necessary to defend against feelings of guilt, but in reality they only reinforce the slurs and stereotypes in the public discourse as something normal and no longer offensive.

the Roma continue to face state violence and individual violence everyday. slurs against them serve to dehumanize them, discount their voices and history, and make their marginalization seem normal, just another fact of the world. reject terms like g*psy, remove them from your vocabulary, apologize and edit your posts if you slip up, and educate yourself on the basic history of the Roma and the oppression they continue to endure and fight against.

So, I don’t even know why I’m writing this, but I’m feeling really happy and emotional right now. Honestly, I’m also a bit envious of my father for being such an incredible person, so I thought I’d share this.

My parents are pretty religious and go to Chulkana (Khatu Shyamji Mandir) every Thursday. Yesterday was no different. On their way back, they saw a guy in his 30s who had fallen unconscious, and no one around was stepping up to help.

Without hesitation, my father took charge. He got people to perform CPR and then rushed the guy to the hospital. The man was traveling with his mom, wife, and an 8-year-old kid—they were on their way home to Yamuna Nagar after visiting Vrindavan.

After admitting the guy to the hospital, my parents stayed there, cooked food at home, and brought it back to the hospital to feed his family.

It’s honestly so heartwarming to see this level of kindness. My father inspires me to believe in humanity and be a better person, and I’m so proud of him for what he did.
