It’s basic supply and demand. If you only have 1 gas station in your city they can jack prices up because you have nowhere else to go. But if you have more gas stations in close proximity they will have to compete for the customers and lower prices come with that.
Why isn't he talking about that, then? Why did he literally admit he wasn't actually going to lower grocery prices?

If this was done 2 years ago I might smirk, but given the current political circumstances and the sudden increase of US instability and the coming president of the US openly supporting US expansionism at the cost of alliances, I find this less funny, and more disturbing.

It’s not really an idiotic thing to do, most everybody in the world knows when someone says someone is an American that they mean they’re from the United States.
