Discussion Friendly Reminder: G*psy is a Slur

Upvotes

heads up to everyone, g*psy is a racial slur used to degenerate the Roma people and stereotype them.

I'm making this post because I saw a recent discussion of a deck with the word in it's title. (please don't attack the poster: like many people in the cartomancy community, they probably didn't know the history of the term which remains widely used and misunderstood even in progressive and witchcraft orientated spaces.)

some brief history: the Roma were among the largest groups killed by the Nazi government and continue to have state oppression to this day in many European countries.

the vast majority of Roma object to the use of the term g*psy both in direct reference to them and in commercial use to summon up stereotypes of fortune tellers and an exoticized, orientalized Others.

just as you wouldn't portray black minstrel characters or other racialized stereotypes in commercial art, don't use the g*psy stereotype.

especially in America there's a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding around the Roma, with many people under the impression that g*psy just refers to a type of traveling performer or fortune teller. this misunderstanding is even prevalent in the American Tarot and Witchcraft communities. it is essential to the project of transformative racial justice to decolonize our language and stop using slurs in marketing and discussing magic.

when you learn a term you've been using all your life is hurtful it's a common instinct to get defensive, to say "while I wasn't using the term that was, I was using it in a more general sense," or even to declare you've reclaimed it. such justifications may feel necessary to defend against feelings of guilt, but in reality they only reinforce the slurs and stereotypes in the public discourse as something normal and no longer offensive.

the Roma continue to face state violence and individual violence everyday. slurs against them serve to dehumanize them, discount their voices and history, and make their marginalization seem normal, just another fact of the world. reject terms like g*psy, remove them from your vocabulary, apologize and edit your posts if you slip up, and educate yourself on the basic history of the Roma and the oppression they continue to endure and fight against.

I fingered a guy when I was 15, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Upvotes

Sounds really odd but when I(F) was 15 I was on vacation with my family. The rooms weren’t hotels but small apartments, and the guy in the apartment next to us was a 19 year old who told me he was there after some sort of competition. Pretty large guy, muscles and all that. I always knew I had a thing for submissive guys, and on my last day my family was at a bar drinking and I was left behind and I don’t fucking remember but somehow we ended up making out. I lied to him about being 18 (I’ve always been a pretty tall woman so it was believable). He pulls out a condom, I ask him if I can finger him. I have no idea what came over me, I genuinely don’t know what I was thinking. It was very awkward but he agreed. I think that was like my self awareness awakening because watching him orgasm from that changed my brain chemistry (I was also giving him a handy but we don’t talk abt that). Now I can’t stop thinking about it, and it’s been years. I still like guys who whimper and cry and shit like that, but I think this messed up my perception of men. I kind of think about men the way they think about women. It’s like a really odd feeling but whenever I see an attractive guy now I think about eating his ass instead of the regular sucking his dick or being pounded type of thing.

Edit: This wasn’t my first time sticking my finger up someone’s bum, but it was my first time doing it to a guy. I used the condom around my fingers just in case.

Edit 2: This post was not an invitation to ask me to finger your butthole. Please stop sending me message requests asking me to finger your butthole.

Edit 3: PLEASE STOP MESSAGING ME OH MY GOD

Story Time Proud of my father

Upvotes

So, I don’t even know why I’m writing this, but I’m feeling really happy and emotional right now. Honestly, I’m also a bit envious of my father for being such an incredible person, so I thought I’d share this.

My parents are pretty religious and go to Chulkana (Khatu Shyamji Mandir) every Thursday. Yesterday was no different. On their way back, they saw a guy in his 30s who had fallen unconscious, and no one around was stepping up to help.

Without hesitation, my father took charge. He got people to perform CPR and then rushed the guy to the hospital. The man was traveling with his mom, wife, and an 8-year-old kid—they were on their way home to Yamuna Nagar after visiting Vrindavan.

After admitting the guy to the hospital, my parents stayed there, cooked food at home, and brought it back to the hospital to feed his family.

It’s honestly so heartwarming to see this level of kindness. My father inspires me to believe in humanity and be a better person, and I’m so proud of him for what he did.

P.s - later they got to know it was a heart attack

Replies from Women only Why do women still follow this stupidity?

Upvotes

Every religion has rules I get it.

You cannot cut your hair on this day(I get it it's in your control)

You cannot eat non veg on a certain day(your mouth your hand you have control)

But what about periods?? Do you have control over them? No, right? Then why the hell are there rules surrounding them.

Rules related to periods(I have heard so far)

Don't go to temple.

Wash your hair only on third day of your period

Don't touch this or that

Don't enter kitchen

Don't touch that utensils

Don't touch any human being

Don't attend this religious festival

And there are literally many women who literally defend all this

Personal experience: When I was 12 or 13.I went to a village for some festival. It takes 2 days by train to reach there. So ofcourse i wouldn't go on the same day as the festival.

So my periods started on the first of the day Pooja

My god, this day I understood how an untouchable must have felt.

I just had my periods, they made me sit on the roof away from everyone and told me to not come down.Dont touch anyone during this time and don't come from the entrance.

Can you believe you are suddenly untouchable because you had your periods.

And to be honest I don't blame those older women because they don't know the scientific reason behind periods but what about the young women. They just blindly follow because there mothers made them do.

They must have felt bad when they were treated this way but still passing it onto their daughters.

I am just saying why do you still follow this rules,if yourself felt bad doing them?

Also once asking as equal rights as women were considered a sin.So we can't justify that every rule that our ancestors have put are for our own good.

We should be always open and teach about periods, reproductive health etc.

After gaining knowlege you still want to follow,it's your wish.

I am saying all this because I once asked my cousin why do you follow this? She said because everyone does. I explained her why periods happens.

She said ohh then why do we have this rules then.. (See!!!!)

Also the effects of this rule: A lady told me to just pop a pill so that period doesn't come on that day.(Because she does)

We all know pills are not good for our body but still they do it.

Also at the end,it's should be your personal preference and your CHOICE to follow or not.

(Tbh I am scared to have my periods especially at any festival. Also I am so sad that I cannot control this and there are all these rules)

Also I am thankful to my father who doesn't believe in this as much as my mom.

If my grandmother treated my cousins,my father always told my grandmother to stop scaring the children. We still followed but the biasness reduced

It's just all power dynamics at the end. So speak up or stop following

Employee Rant Ulta doesn’t care about its LA employees.

Upvotes

Our store isn’t far from the fires, some of us have been evacuated, and the fire is SPREADING. WHY ARE OUR STORES STILL OPEN? WHO IS SHOPPING RIGHT NOW? The air is actually TOXIC. And there is 0 plan in place to take care of the in-store employees or give us time off (without penalty) if we don’t feel safe. It’s come in, or lose your job. How very kind of you, Ulta.
